Well I reckon I must be . Today I let my call bird from my last Larson trap fly free . The Magpie has been catching well for a few weeks and I , with its help have caught a great many magpies around the shoot . I’ve not caught a magpie for a while now . And with the Larson traps the ladder trap and shooting. I have reduced the magpie population to an acceptable level . Normally I would have “euthanised “ the call bird , but he has helped me and I gave him his freedom . Seeing him fly off made me feel good . What are these strange feelings? Am I turning into a tree hugger ? F@cking hope not . I

I,m a pretty straight living old boy these days but in my younger days I was bang at it, a thief and an habitual criminal with no morals, but I never hated the police for nicking me the people that informed on me or the guards that incarcerated me, it was just part and parcel of the game I chose to play, when I woke up on a morning planning my next crime I was fully aware people were waking up and plannning on catching or preventing me, that was there job and mine was not to get caught, slashing faces etc is for people touching kids or having a serious affect on your life, not over some random

Was out last night too at my mates shoot. Poults went in last week so we staked out the wood to see if anything came out . First thing to show was a buck and a doe but didn't hang around for a shot and slipped back in the wood. Then another 2 does sauntered out across the field in front of us. As the light was fading I spotted Charlie pop out and sit down around 180 yds away ? My mate duly dropped him with a central bib shot ? A good result seeing as it was less than 100 yds from the pen.

Maybe they were emptier than usual because the hypochondriacs that fill our hospitals were too scared to leave the house and risk catching the virus...... ?

I don’t need to let my call birds out, some kind person keeps doing for me. I’ve just had to relocate a couple of larsens that I thought were well hidden. I’ve had a crow in roughly the same location for ages, (I move them about a bit within a small area)it’s recently been found and released. Sometimes the call birds come back to the same trap that they’ve been released from within a couple of days. They must like me because I feed them well?

The problem with buying a mid table, third tier team is how do you attract the top players ? You may get mercenaries in the twilight of their careers, who demand top wages, but you won't get the top players who want to play against the best in the Premier or Europe. Any player going to a third tier club knows it will be at least two or three seasons, if they are lucky, before they are back in the Premier. When relegated most lads I know feared and expected the worst, in that we would plummet down the leagues and end up mid table 3rd Division with no prospect of getting out of the mire. How embarrassing would that be? We count our blessings to still be in the Premier League and hope to find an owner that will allow us to compete on an even keel with the clubs in England and in Europe, that we once did.

They are getting desperate. The cull has rolled out over most of the country now . There are only a handful of these people out there and for all their threats and shouting and screaming, unsolicited telephone calls , and hate mail . They actually do nothing, I don’t know anyone involved in the cull who has been physically hurt by them . It’s all wind and piss . If they turn up where culling is being carried out then the culling stops for that night , but that’s it , they can’t be everywhere and it will just take place the following night or the night after . It’s called buck fever . I’ve had guys who can punch paper with the best of them , but put a buck or in this case a fox in front of them and they get nervous and they forget all the principles of marksmanship , breathing etc and fluff the shot . I seldom let anyone shoot foxes on the shoot I keeper or any of my permissions , I get really ratty if someone misses and educates a fox . At least if there is any misses now it’s always my fault .
