First light is always a good time , just getting up at mad hours is par for the course and has to be done , and with the evenings drawing in so quick, dawn is probably the better opportunity, just take plenty of tea mate , lol and if there’s a invite coming up , as long as my diesel is payed, there’s a stake dinner on the table , loads of beer , a comfortable bed , a 100 pound penalty is they don’t show , I might just consider coming up for the weekend only if you ask me very nicely, lol ?? atb stav6 points

I think most people on here are pretty neutral we’re it comes to crosses these days most of us see positives in most crosses an pic a cross that suits our own needs an own styles or forms of running them6 points

Glad she's back. IMO you didn't give up you kept going back and the reward was getting her back. I Know a lot of guys don't agree, but a 16' dig is a dangerous dig if you have no groundwork experience. Atb Cheers Arry6 points

I don't know there sandy. Bill, and plenty of others on here, look down their noses at collie crosses, no guts, too wimpy, not enough drive, not tough enough etc etc. But they sure are intelligent, maybe too much dog for him/them. Seen it several times, collie crosses aint soft, and that innate intelligence will suss out a 'soft touch' pretty quickly. Hmmm ? food for thought5 points

Be running my old trusty again. After a bad injury last year he didn’t get a full season. Had a good few outings this month and he seems back to normal. Have been getting the pup out a fair bit but she will only be bushing and ferreting this season5 points

I have a place that I have shot rabbits and foxes on for many years now, I had a call from the owner asking if I would come and have a look at a little bit of woodland he has planted as the deer are wrecking the trees, now I’m here and it would appear to be roe knocking them over so he has told me to take what I can ( very nice of him ) shame there’s very little time for the bucks, I may have to see if anyone else wants a go, it would be a shame to waste this opportunity, I’m going to have a sit out to see what’s about but I think this could be a first light thing ?4 points

I have been using these cameras for a good few years now and i have found that they save me a lot of needless waiting. They are prone to dampness if used extensively in wet weather but i use a cover for mine made from old milk jugs. If you put them where the public have access to it may be prudent to paint them or cover them with some of that cammo tape of ebay.3 points

Have had most makes of soft walking boots berghause, merril, high tech, north face etc and the best ones by far were called scarpa I think, got them from go outdoors, I tend to kill a pair most winters but they lasted me nearly 3 years, as a quick aside, how the f**k can anyone make a pair of walking boots last 10 years especially hi techs unless you walk on your hands ???3 points

Its gone bit quiet on the Let's See Your River catches forum, possibly due to the weather. Anyway ,a friend and I dressed defensively and braved the heavy rain on Sunday . According to my accomplice my over-large ex-army poncho made me look like a giant camouflaged condom but at least I was dry. We caught plenty of grayling, roach, chub and even a couple of bream-it was amost a bite a cast- but nothing huge. Then I hit a patch of quality gudgeon! One of which morphed from being a plucky wriggler on the line into a heavy toothy dead-weight when a pike took a fancy to an easy meal.3 points

Here’s my two, the big dogs saluki bull grey and the young one saluki bull grey x Wheaton bull grey. Pup will be 12 months next month and showing good signs. Have to hold the little fecker back as he’s very confident so I just give him a little at a time but what he has done he’s shown good signs. Got himself in a few situations And worked them out well for a youngun. Big dogs always a pleasure to take out to be honest, yes he has faults but nothing major and he’s a 100 percent tryer who loves the graft. Loves a challenge3 points

I was asked to take care of a chicken botherer, so not having the time to sit and wait for it I thought I’d put the camera out and bait up, it didn’t take long, in fact an hour after putting the camera out I got my first hit, it was 2 days later before I had time to check the camera and I’d made the decision that last night would be the night as the ginger seemed to be hanging around for much of the night, firstly showing up on the camera around 8pm and then on and off up until about 3:30am, getting there for 7:30pm it was little over 30 minutes before it turned up, no need for calling or shou2 points

I love having a go at the geese, I’d fling a sickie for that, I’ve got a meeting tonight with a bloke I do a bit of shooting for, he wants to show me around a new woodland he has planted because the deer are wrecking it but he has duck ponds on this place and a lot of geese so they will be getting a mention2 points

How can you justify or condemn anything without knowing the facts? General comments... Well keepered land will give booming game populations and the single most important factor in hare populations has been proven to be keepering, not how they are killed. Also, there is several hundred quids worth of game laying there, I doubt it was wasted. Rifling hares may be disgusting to coursing men, just like dogging deer may be disgusting to a stalker. I think a bit of humility would go a long way. Better yet, invest in a chunk of land and keeper it to the benefit of the wildlife and harvest2 points

Some keepers i know do a hare shoot and hundreds are shot, just like they allways have been on big shooting estates and the hare numbers keep coming back up as they will on a well run shooting estate where vermin control is carried out as it removes predators.A hare drive will bring in a good days money and that in turns pays for keepers, traps etc so it makes the estate work.It does sicken me to see hundreds of hares laid out just for sport but then so does seeing hundreds of game birds laid out and them being worth feck all as the money was in the shot taken. There are things in other field sp2 points
