First time me or dog have used ferrets. Very pleased with him. Concentrated perfectly and was quick on the bolt. It was quite a big warren although only bolted 1. Not sure whether the ferret was going deep enough. The ferret was a stray handed into a farmer, so unsure on her working wisdom. Needless to say I was happy with a catch. Weather was against us.7 points

seems to be a lot of slagging youngsters off but its unfair to level it everywhere. i can only go on what i see around me but theirs plenty of good in the younger generations these days if you see past the blinkers. local boy moved in with his grandad when his gran died and did a top job. took him out for beers/shopping etc while kept on his normal early 20 lifestyle. as far as care homes go id imagine that most need proper care as people live longer and are more frail. now most have jobs and kids and unless they gave up work to care then they are just leaving them all day on their own w3 points

Agree with you mate. I think a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie be perfect for him. Like you say, it won't need bags of stamina etc, and that bit of exta greyhound should make it easier to live with, plus help it catch more of what it does run when he goes for a walk/mooch. Again, like you've said, this topic has been covered a fair old amount of times, and I do actually like some of these reverse 3/4 breds, but alot of them just aren't fast enough. And I've said before, on almost all the places me and my lad go, unless you've got a very fast dog you'll be going home empty handed. Alot of the rabbits3 points

Fair play mate , you are doing a good job . But if you weren’t as proactive, you would soon find a few moved in . I’m going to keep at them this year and see if it makes a difference in the shoots returns . I have always left them alone from now on because I like my terrier work , but I am sure I will still find some to ground in the forestry when the weather gets colder. I will let you know how I get on , early February when I do my report.3 points

the more collie in a lurcher the less suitable they are as pets. They need work/mental stimulation. And lots of it.3 points

Modern people have no honour any more, it's not taught in schools, or by parents to kids. I remember being read Aesop's Fables as a kid, I wonder if I would still have the same scruples if I was brought up today?3 points

Nor me.., and I refused to watch Mayweather v McGregor on point of principle. People rightly say that boxing is in the entertainment industry, but fans are entertained by quality competitive sport, not by how much hype and razzmattaz goes into the build up. Mayweather fighting any MMA fighter is the equivalent of Rocky fighting Thunderlips in Rocky III. It should be a charity fund raiser, not lining that vulgar little cretin’s pockets any further.3 points

Been experimenting with a different trap presentation on a difficult job. Lots of pets and children there so rodenticides are out and they have vetoed fenn mk4s. I knocked this box together. It can be fixed along a fence line or along a wall etc With a Victor vertically inside. A length of shock-leader is tied to the kill bar and threaded through a hole in the top lid. When the trap is sprung this will disappear, for at-a-glance monitoring. Only caught little uns so far, but it's early days.2 points

Not very much I would say from the appearance of the ones I,ve encountered, looked like they could,nt afford to wash and cloth them selves, and that's coming from a man that dresses himself from charity shops and army surplus ??2 points

Never heard of this the other way round - Springer FT winner or champion with a little bit of cocker somewhere in the DNA? Personally I gave up registering my springer pups with the KC three generations ago and have never had any trouble selling (on the rare occasions I have had a litter) or their working ability, temperament or fitness. I know which dogs I'm happy breeding with as I've seen them work day in day out either picking up or beating. Dogs are there to put in a shift, not show off their limited (I've swept up behind them on a shoot day) ability, reliance on the whistle rather than i2 points

I agree with a lot of what you say . I read an interesting article recently by an old timer who like us was not convinced of the value of Thermal / night vision . What he said rang true These new innovations can help someone get on terms with foxes , but should not replace field craft and knowledge of your quarry. Like with a sat nav , you should still be able to read a map . Put it together with listening out for a jay or a magpie or a cock pheasant, knowledge of wind direction, likely routes taken by Charlie . Technology should never replace skill , only enhance it .2 points

Ok, good points but the intelligence has to be very good or all the latest kit will still miss something! I use my daytime walks and knowledge of the land to look for sign and listen to the pheasants. They will tell you if a fox is about. Wrens too will tell you if a predator is in thick cover. A fresh turd, a pheasants wing or two. Put a brick or stone on favorite runs, they love to mark them etc. So when I go for a "wonder" with a lamp I have a good idea where to hang around. I do fancy a trail camera though! U.?2 points

your prob right mate, i was thinking what stealthy1 said regards hard labour , or birching them etc, but thinking a more about it really, they prob be to much out of there heads with all the shit they pump in there bodys , and not feel any pain that given to them. I think it’s most likely that the perpetrators were robbing to feed a drug habit. The misery and knock on crime from addiction is the scourge of society. Smack heads don’t have a moral compass, all they do is focus on that next fix .2 points

i am prob older than you at 66 , there all ways been scum about, but maybe people morals have got worse . When ever i read crime or similar crimes like these the 1st thing that jumps out of the page at me is ( COWARDS ) they wouldnt have the guts to do it to people there own age, more so if they were on there own , and even at my age they shit there selves if confronted with me, they know i kick the crap out of them .2 points

This is about Literature getting a piece of the Japanese MMA business and trying to compete with Dana Whyte. He is going to get exposure in the Asian market. It will be another joke like the McGregor fight was. Just a publicity stunt. Never mind kicks etc it will probably be written into his contract that's it is not as competitive fight and he is not allowed to win! And people on here say AJ or Fury are robbing money! I won't be paying for this one.2 points

I always find they return to vehicle if not injured but have found them after rewalking same ground the next day and giving a few hollers. If it's stormy they will lie up in a dry spot near earth that they drop in. My fathers bitch injured her toe from a fox bite and laid up and I spent 36 hours searching before I found her. Her kennel mate wouldn't leave her and She was too heavy for me to carry 2 miles across bad ground but her mate kept going back and nuzzling her and encouraged her to walk home and spent full night with her when she could of easily found her own way home. Bitch died sinc2 points

I like both but there is good and bad in both , been out with a young non ped or what I would call a grew out of Dave sleights stuff today on her first trip on the bunnies, held the Lurcher back for a few then took them in turns , she run the first one with her head up and missed. The second one bolted and she didn’t feck about with that a quick run and a good pick up, she didn’t miss much after that. Now can I ask Fred how old is the beddy x and what will she be bringing to the party , is she catching good numbers and impressing because the few lads I know with ped whippet dogs will no2 points
