Hope everyone is keeping well both physically & mentally too during these uncertain times..just wondering how you all have done regarding working your dogs this past season what with all the restrictions & lockdowns we've endured, obviously some places of the country more so than others..have you been lucky enough to carry on pretty much just like always or have you just had to write this season off & look forward to what will hopefully be a better one later in this year? Best season had in a long time , plenty about probably cause rifle boys aren’t driving the roads in the evening or not travelling , young bitch has turned it on and become exactly what I hoped ! Old bitch has held out till just before Xmas been in the vets tonight 3 more weeks rest and should be good to come back out on the small days ! Looking forward to bringing on a young apprentice this summer , I haven’t travelled over the bridge as much but i prefer my local jaunts any way

Very lucky in the fact that I can walk out my door and be gone for a couple of hrs with the pup. Obviously he’s too you to start serious hunting but he’s been out nigh on every day learning as he goes, he’s had quite a bit of gear in his mouth already and I’m more than happy with the way he’s progressing... roll on next harvest ?

@Allan P Not to hog your thread mate, but I often think back to some of the very first lurchers we had. No-one really knew exactly how the parents of the pups we had then were bred. Sometimes the breeding being just 'guessed' at lol. Or a lot of the time, one of the parents would be half whippet, but the other half of said parent would still be a guess lol. And some of those dogs, not my first couple though lol, were just as good as some dogs that have been bred in the last 30 years. I often think not knowing the exact breeding puts less expectation on the pups owner. Anywa

I’ve this young bitch she’s 19months old now it’s her first season she’s doing very well for me considering the lack of rabbits she’ll ferret/lamp/mooch for me I love her attitude to work she’s proving very handy I’m really happy with her.I’ve had a shit run with dogs the past 5-6yrs with 2 dieing then the mother crippled her self then the next young un wouldn’t pull anything other than rabbits so started again with a fresh pup The covid stuff hasn’t effected us getting out doing a bit tbh as we live rural we gained 2 new big bits of permissions so that lightened the covid situation up a bit

Well I decided to tart up the tikka 233 , don’t know why but this new stock fits like a glove , so I’m of out to do some essential pest control ? just though I’d give you a look Atb

All decent sensible discussion ended on this thread when max declared himself the covid specialist, some good input from folks of different opinions has been lost amongst his same old know it all bullshit and his condescending knobhead attitude. Covid is affecting everyones lives at the minute and this place was once a decent place to pick up bits and pieces of information from very knowledgeable people but that has gone to fcuk lately because of a couple of mouth pieces.

I have the thermion xq50 and its great .It has a clarity to see way past any field boundary. You can see mr fox and mr rabbit hundreds of yards away (not metres ,no Eu here ??). Well pleased,you can identify animals way past any safe shot range . And you can pre zero different range aim points and save them.So billy bunny gets the 50yd treatment but mr Reynard can get 150 yd visitors.

Havent botherd reading much of this thread because itll be the same old crap , but ill tell you one thing im currently isolating as the mrs is ill with covid and its bloody scary i wouldnt wish it on anyone , if it takes wearing a mask to keep myself and people safe then so be it , when its time for my jab ill be there , anything to keep my family safe

Had a few decent nights lamping but nowhere near as much time on the hills that I intended. Got my older dog and busher ticking over but also a young bitch I wanted to put more in front of as it’s her first season. Had plans to travel around the UK a bit and spend a lot of time working up North Wales and getting on the hills over the weekends. Will have to wait until next season. Family are safe and I have work so mustn’t grumble.

Yep I am 54 with no health conditions and have just had Covid. I can tell you it floored me for 2 weeks and is not pleasant. Everyone seems to react differently but I dont want it again and cant wait to be vaccinated.

I've not posted over Christmas because we had a 3 weeks run of going on spots after poaches had hit them , the few rabbits they had left wouldn't bolt so we packed in after a morning of digging but did we cry and spit our dummie out, no we just got on with it like you do.

Tom nobody is going to give you their permission on here. As said above go around farms knock on doors and ask mate. Now I'm only about 5 miles from you in Totnes and my mate I Ferret with is in Paignton after this f***ing covid blows over I will give you a day out and we will see if we get on from there. Its the interesting part ,its a huge extra not having to find time to work or train the dogs ,its all part of the job ,out in the fresh air where there is always something to see or watch. Time doesn't matter ,I roll out when I feel like it & roll back in much like the wind ,nobody raggin my ass ,I'm in charge of all the workers, no holiday pay or sick leave ,no I can't make it in today ,every day the workers are happy to see and spend time with me .Perhaps more valuable than any of this is ,you get in tune with dogs ,get to know each one inside out know their weak and strong points &

I got my little piece of permission by asking a bloke who was shooting on the farm if anybody had permission to go ferreting on it. He said no. I thanked him anyway and went on my way...with a well behaved kelpie trotting along beside me. I got half way across the field and he called me back, complimented the dog and offered me the permission on the three farms. Turned out he was the farmer.

Went out today and done a garden in a roundabout at a reception center 45 minuets 20 bunnies. Not a bad day out considering we weren’t hon long woul have like to have done more but the temperature started to get pretty hot for the ferrets.
