After an MRI Scan it has been revealed that my prostate cancer ends no further treatment. After X-rays on my shoulder(following a fall whilst setting some crayfish traps where I maybe should not have been) they say that mild osteoarthritis is my problem. Heard the cuckoo again. Saw my first rabbit in ages which was a black un. Heard that rabbit population on one of my old perms is on the mend, East Midlands Airport. Her in doors still loves me. What a day. Jok.15 points

Huge 4 day BBQ here over the jubilee weekend, people even came from the states, I was stuffed yesterday on corn bread, chicken, mashed potato and gravy, I could hardly move, but I did the world's only inter-provincial zip-line over the river to Quebec afterwards. I like my bed! location is a pig farm with a small shoot attached to the land.. the vixen and cub were down with one shot at about 25 yard, they were walking towards each other and pulled the trigger when they were nose to nose the 3 cubs below were yesterday.. they must of been following but got broken up from the previous session abo7 points

Thursday I got a call from a mate of mine to ask if I could help a chap out that was losing chickens to a fox. I went to the same place last year for the same reason. I said the earliest I could go would be Saturday night, so we made arrangements for then. A mate of mine went with me and we set up the same as last time. I had a feeling it would be a vixen with cubs as it had been digging into the pens to gain access to the chickens. Anyhow at 10.13pm I spotted it coming into the field. It was using the available cover to make its way to the pens. I turned the foxpro on pheasant distress and it7 points

it certainly was Phil. it was the only thing we could get worth reading for a lot of what I would call working class lads. we viewed the shooting times as the other side of the fence. also we were glued to the classified section as pups, ferrets etc, there wasn't the wide ranging market of today's Internet.6 points

Back up on the moor tonight for a couple of hours, I took the.17 for my mate and the .22 for me, we decided that we wouldn’t shoot anything really small and between 70 and 120 yards for the .22 and anything over 120 he’d have a go at with the .17, there was a few misses but both of us pulled off some cracking shots, we managed 41, so that’s well over 200 for 3 visits, not bad at all ? also seen the first curlew chicks and actually seen a cuckoo instead of just hearing them6 points

True. I've had the book for several years but only recently got round to reading it. It's full of so much wisdom and common sense. My particular favourite so far is a chapter called 'A Shilling and a Pint' which looks at the reasons for the breeding of dogs. Here's one quote: "Personally, I believe it should be made illegal to breed and sell dogs commercially. Such an enactment would reduce the number of dogs in the country by half - the right half."? Edited to add: I'm very flattered by all the likes but it's not me that deserves them...I'm just quoting someone else.?5 points

Cant believe its 40 yrs today, that the falklands conflict began, seems to me just like yesterday, just thinking about all the lives that were lost from british forces, lost a couple of classmates to it, those lads would have been 66yrs old now, if they would have got home, sad that they never knew family life, i remember and salute them all. rip.4 points

I like a run on a hare in daylight but I’ll be honest my dogs have missed their fair share on the lamp, them coursing breds are sound for long runs in daylight but give them 8-10 at night a lot of them can’t hack the pace, I’ll get called a liar no doubt but just what I’ve seen4 points

What you are describing is a rig for fishing a deadbait "sink and draw" or "wobbled" rather than static . Some had little vanes or propellers and were known as spinning flights. The ironmongery was designed to keep the valuable bait secure enough to withstand repeated casting and retrieving. As Nicepix says : There was no nipping down the shop to buy convenient frozen bait. Generally you caught your own. Or if you were rich you had a man do it for you. If you were very posh you might've bought little fish preserved in formalin and encased in celluloid .4 points

Was a good mag back then. Used to love looking at the adverts of stuff that I struggled to afford. Remember the old net making kit off kp and s I think. That lovely smell of hemp nets hanging off the caravan door. Ordered a blue eye off there to and my ferret finders. The local terrier man simpson I think used to write good stuff. Then there was that dodgy fella used to write the lurcher articles ah great days3 points

Loving the avatar Si, good to know it’s not just me that has a pal who phones at stupid o’clock. He phoned me at 4 o’clock in the morning to ask me if I’d been foxing and then at half past five to tell me he’d caught a magpie.....? ?twot3 points

Hares are a lot harder in daytime no doubt about it but I’ve seen some tidy daytime dogs miss their share on the lamp, just way it goes it’s not all black and white3 points

A dog show judge can only judge on conformation, they can't tell a dogs working capability simply by looking it over. There are some very good judges who also work dogs. There are some who just do it to help out and quite frankly couldn't tell a pastern from a hock. And there are the corrupt judges who take care of their mates. The only thing they have in common is that they can't tell if a dog is a worker or not, unless they've actually seen it work. Cheers.3 points

Well, the Duoclang F1 arrived yesterday. Now just to re-cap, the Duoclang F1 is a Chinese copy of the much vaunted Fallkniven F1. What attracted me to this knife was the price, that it looked to be a good copy of a knife with a solid reputation and I believed that it was going to be badged as a Duoclang rather than Fallkniven, which would only show it to be a counterfeit. I was disappointed in the badging; it has Fallkniven stamped on it. So instead of presenting to the world as a Duoclang that is of the same design as a Fallkniven, it is presenting itself as a Fallkniven and a counterfeit. A3 points
