  2. ? Personally, I think too much formal training,. too early on, can frequently inhibit the inherent, natural hunting ability, in a roustabout jukel. I follow the Keith Erlandson method of early schooling, whereby he used to commit virtual heresy amongst the Gundog fraternity, by allowing and encouraging his young tykes to hunt up, at an early age... Obviously, as our own Skycat has mentioned, this practice is frequently counter-productive for most folk,.. and I would not advise novice lurcher enthusiasts to follow my lead... Far better, to reign a young lurcher in and prevent it

  5. No borders to passion. Few people understand this passion. I do not get excited with technology, nor with jewelry or cars, I just get excited watching my galgos run after a hare on the plain, my excitement is on Sunday morning, in the aroma of coffee mixed with pine and dew. There will never be something as healthy, as pure and as true as the hunting with galgos is, no one can imagine what this makes us feel. My passion is the dawn, my passion is the field, my passion is Galgos. I'm simple, I'm humble, I'm Galguero, it's simply WONDERFUL. Galguero Hasta La Muerte

  6. I had two mini Manchester terriers, and the only way they would of killed a fox is if one of the snappy little b*****ds got stuck in the fox's throat as it ate them ! ??! Cheers.

  12. Absolute top bloke, my mate served in 2 para with him and back in 2005 we took a bunch of rough council estate kids we were doing youth work with on the plane down to Bristol. Billy picked us up in a mini bus and firstly took us to his house, photos of him with Tom Cruise and Tony Blair etc there. Then he took us to porttrallis? The sas training grounds, he was in charge of B Company at the time. 4 other sas lads also gave up there weekend for the lads. They shot a couple of roe, and pheasants that the lads skinned and ate, took them on quads, showed them the killing room, and how to make basha

  14. So she's stubborn, strong-willed, intelligent and obviously chock full of hunting instinct. If you're taking her out hunting at this age you've not got a hope in hell that she will think you are more interesting than all those scents and sounds. If you have an adult dog that is very obedient, sees you as the pack leader who takes them where the hunting is good, then she'll learn the right thing from it. If not, then she'll be off to do her own thing, which is far more exciting than staying with boring you who only tells her not to do the stuff she wants to do. I routinely took pups out with se

  20. I Have had some hard days on the whites they might not run as hard as the browns but some of the terrain is unforgiving. Seen plenty of dogs come home lame bruised and batted. Hidden burns hidden rocks in the Heather . Sharp stoney tracks which the whities seem to love taking your dog down . You can find them in pockets of a dozen or more sometimes so your dog gets on one kills it and another and another . You get the picture. It can be tough going

  23. For the last three years I have had 2 metre catfish on a cane rod and centrepin reel on my 'to do' list. However, with covid restrictions, lousy summer weather and some unforseen circumstances eating into the 3 month period when this could happen, I have not achieved it. So, that is my 2022 target along with a Spanish barbel and a 10lb plus zander. I'm hoping for the Spanish barbel next month.

  24. There nice little dogs to own, but not really big enough to be an all round lurcher. Mine is very obedient and hunts very well, but lacks speed due to her small size. Although she will go to ground on hares ?

  31. Never really have much of an issue with recall, pups spend their time trotting about off lead from six / eight weeks. Learn to follow on and stick with the pack. Just generally make them my mate. Use tug training etc. All the terrier bases Lurchers I’ve had have had good recall and retrieved to hand. But you have to remember pups are like babies / children and not get too stressed.

  34. I had a few old 15 ft terrier collars, and cut them down and fixed them to new collars, ideal for my hobs, but found my Jill's struggled with them, only difference is a bigger collar that takes 2 batteries?I could pick them up with an 8 ft box...dug 10ft to a young hob few seasons ago in Scotland ?

  35. I've only read the snippets on here mate, I was more refering to him not attending the end of season event, stinks of bad sportsmanship to me, but I don't know much so could be well off the mark. Like I say I thought he handled himself very well after the race, he has achieved everything and beaten every record if he decides he's had enough who could blame him.

  42. Think you will probably find the new repro Mk1 will pick a 15 foot collar up at 15 foot. The only difference between the old 8 foot Mk1 and the 15 foot Mk1 is the sticker on the thumb wheel and you can buy the stickers on the bay. It's the collars that are different not the boxes. Nobody seems to be making new 15 foot collars that the problem. Cheers Arry

  43. When it don't listen just walk the other way away from the dog, I've never used treatsjust make a bit of a fuss when they do what is asked of them. If walking away doesn't do it then hide from the f****r they soon get scared then don't want to be left again so listen well after that
