I just like to say there’s still good lads out there and fair play to Derry lad on gifting me a pup especially when he never meet me before. I collected him of the courier this morning and is settling in nicely now7 points

This dog I bred and raised. He is the same family line of dog breed to a full wolfhound then crossed back to a stag hound. He could burn a coyote down and really snuff the life from one quick. He is a good pig dog also as you can see. I breed him to 3/4 pit 1/4 cane corso bitch and got a very nice litter of pups. They are 13 months old now and really turning out to be good pig dogs. I'll post pictures of them later.7 points

Been working and building my own feeding station and hide for past couple months and now i'm very happy to say all my hard work has paid off, Male Sparrowhawk came in today for 30 mins and what a stunning bird he is. I can't express enough the satisfaction and sense of achievement i have right now.6 points

Blackpool is a shit hole - it's like a pound shop theme park in a 50% off sale, dumped next to a council estate. .......... It could do with a decent earthquake6 points

Never did. Only thing other than pigs I allowed him to run was coyotes. I didn't send him coyotes much because my focus is pigs. Pigs I can flip and tie and then bring a trailer to them and load them in a trailer then untie them and sale them for 30 cents a pound plus a $10 head bonus. Or I dispatch them with a long knife and take them home and feed them to the dogs. My dogs diets consist mainly of pig. Of course I'll BBQ a shoulder or hindquarter or ribs off a nice fat sow. So nothing wasted and a little money to be made. Coyotes bring nothing dead so I don't c6 points

This morning had the perfect ferreting day feel about it, frosty windscreen and noticeably cooler than of late, on our arrival that all soon changed, the wind was horrendous, I had a good start with 6 in the bag then things slowed right down bolting 1s&2s until later on when I had another couple of 6s a few digs thrown in along the way I was up to 25 just after dinner so with one last fight to get my longnets back into the basket I called it a day very windswept, the final total between me and my mate was 37 cheers for now Neil b5 points

Been out for a walk round the pheasant shoot tonight, I’m now at home absolutely freezing and soaked through, not a terrible night as my mate took a scabby looking vixen but not far off, didn’t even bother with pictures because I just wanted to go home so I’ve put a couple on from this morning, out for a few hours with a cracking lad off here?4 points

Out for first light. I don't need an alarm clock, I have a granddaughter! Made the fire and brews, well, I made the brews after I cleaned the fridge! The carton of choccy milk I opened last night had leaked! ? Anyway still got out in time. Listened to the pheasants come off roost (can't shoot these ones) and generally watched the wildlife come alive. Never saw a fox. Shot a couple of squirrels and moved onto another farm ( where I can shoot the pheasants). Came across some birds a couple of miles further on. I ummed and ahrrred but then a 70 harder stuck his head up so4 points

Your right, 30 cents per pound isn't much but it it pays for the fun and then some. A typical 200 pound boar will bring $60 plus the $10 head bonus which equals $70 for one run of the dog. Trip is payed for and then some in just 1 run a lot of times. Catch 3 or 4 more and you have made a a decent little check, all while just having fun and doing my little hobby. What rabbit or coyote pays off like that or provides so much food for the dogs or you. Plus the pigs proliferate pretty quickly and can be fairly destructive. Pigs are my passion and my focus and breeding dogs that ar4 points

So my good nature got the better of me again and I’ve been up to give my mate a hand feeding up, a lovely scene on the north Yorkshire moors but bitterly cold in the wind4 points

I was in weybridge high street a month or so back, couple of women and a bloke all with lurchers collecting for a lurcher rescue/rehoming charity, apparently there’s a large number of lurchers get dumped locally, times are changing sadly,I think the 1980’s were the golden years for having a mouch with a dog.3 points

Have to agree.a Bayer would be of little use around my area maybe early season you might just might get the odd result but mid season all you be doing is digging up holes all over the place as quarry would not be dug with a Bayer and people can disagree if they like but anyone that has dug with me in my area will know what I'm saying is true.3 points

Like you i also am glad that ive seen the best days of working lurchers. Fact is the internet is going to be a major player in destroying what sport we have left, the bullshit brigade on facebook, and other sites, this one included unfortunately seem hell bent on self destruction. Most of these lurchermen? you know the type get a dog if it aint doing the job by 12 months, sell it on to the next clueless moron, no wonder the rehoming centres are full What the answer is i dont know but it does not bode well for the genuine folk.3 points

White bitch coming on really well this is her first proper season now and my new black bitch pup coming on nice as well ??3 points

It's different for every single one of us, what floats your boat may not float mine. Even the work style is objective, some like them hard, some don't, as long as you're happy with the dog you keep I wouldn't give two fucks what anyone else thought, stamp or work style.3 points

I have been setting up my trailcam at various locations, trying to monitor routines and numbers of foxes, rabbits, pheasants etc. , very much hoping for some good shots in the process. Today when reviewing the past weeks footage I saw this and was totally shocked. The trailcam was tied to a stick and stuck in the ground where 3 fields adjoin and nearby a stream over the back of the house.2 points

What to take. I was tempted with my Chinese air rifle. The rimmies just weren't talking to me. Fancy an early with the 22 tomorrow if wind good. Cartridge shotgun. Nooooo. Got to be a flintlock then ? I got my gear ready last night so as soon as the fires were made and lit me and Jess headed for a small patch the owner gracefully let's me help myself. I was just putting the sneak on a rabbit when this dark pheasant comes running at me! He disappeared in a cloud of smoke. No delay from the lock, klatch boom. 32g of mixed #1& BB at 25yds crumpled the bird.2 points

Headed out this morning with my brother, he's not really into hunting of any kind but he's likes to join now and again for a change of scenery. So I don't mind at all. Had with us a few purse nets which we chucked a hand full out, we back netted more than bolted into! Also the beddy cross bracken and a older jill along with a couple of first timers. A hob has shown some potential but plenty of time for that.2 points

I know some of you boys are in Ireland so it's different, but the brit lads should remember the hunting act and who can be watching before commenting and we can and do only use bayer types when doing fox control....2 points

A dog that gets the job done and adjusts his working style accordingly is good enough for me.2 points

You can’t really call a different work style stupid, it’s a bit like calling baying types cowards. And saying you won’t dig educated quarry with a baying type is wrong also as I’ve seen a dog of this type dug 28 times in its second season and only taking hold on break through. Both the good rough type and the good baying type or thin on the ground.2 points

I thought that you were looking for a rise when I 1st read this but you have explained yourself later on in the thread. Of course there can be no standard of perfection for any type of dog outside of a show ring or an artificial trial situation. Owners and more importantly breeders of working dogs will all have their own standards. Some similar, some contradictory to others. Some unique. The moment that a written standard of physical type is adhered to and influences breeding in preference to the qualities that were sought in the development of the breed/type is the moment the breed/type becom2 points

I sold that dog but not before I bred him to a 3/4 pit 1/4 cane corso bitch. The red dog is a result of that breeding. He is doing pretty good. Haven't been using him for long, only about 6 weeks now. Seems like he his gonna make a fine dog one of these days. Here are a couple from tonight he helped catch. Hopefully he will be catching his own soon2 points
