No need for apologies. At the end of the day conservation and all forms of hunting go hand in hand. Phil Drabble through his books showed us that by hunting we can also be the guardians of those animal we pursue. He always wrote plenty on the country characters who were adept at catching their quarry because they had studied their quarry. Men like Phil Drabble and Bert Gripton would turn in their graves if they seen the so called hunters who use gadgets to kill a lot of animals. They'd shake their heads in dis-believe if they seen the likes of night vision and electric fox callers. Rightly so.11 points

Last year, a mate gave me a frozen leg of Munty venison, from the previous year. He said it's probably past its best, but you're welcome to it. I thought "You f***ing beauty" and stashed it away. A couple of months later, I anticipated a tremendous feast.......only to find that (while I'd been away fishing for a couple of days), she'd fed it to the f***ing dogs !4 points

I had the exact same concerns as the op years back when I returned to air rifles. i leave one space in the mag empty, I put the mag in and close the bolt on the empty chamber, I walk around until I want to take a shot like this, when I have a shot to take then I re cock and chamber a pellet, once fired I do not re cock until I want to take a shot, that way I am never wandering around aimlessly with a loaded gun, I always know I need to chamber a pellet before taking the shot2 points

Had a great day, six hours non stop hunting. Started off with Jess working a fox in a boggy wood, I stood still as she courses around me giving little voice then Charlie came bolting past just to far for a shot. It jumped the river to escape but well done Jess. I missed a crow and a pigeon but after missing a pheasant got this one. I realized I was leading to much and after some ground covering got my second bird. Shortly after that a cock bird erupted and I took my time lead less and fired but out the smoke appeared a runner! I encouraged Jess but she c2 points

Drabble had opinions and wasn't afraid to voice them but was no anti. His 1964 book "Of Pedigree Unknown" ,should be read by anyone who thinks Brian Plummer's work , "Tales of a Rat-hunting Man", was in any way original.2 points

I worked deerhound crosses but adding saluki based blood just gave them that little bit extra but also adding the right deerhound blood to the saluki types and breeding tight gave us a better animal that really tries and you can give some stick2 points

I don't think it would have mattered if they did. There isn't enough interest in it anymore. Joe Soap couldn't give a flying f*ck and the act is so poorly written you can literally run an entire pack of hounds through the loopholes. The other good news is that because the public believes it to be done and dusted funding for RSPCA and LACS has dropped off significantly and even the moral champions at LACS are fiddling the books in order to keep afloat as they piss away donation money left, right and centre. We need to shut the f*ck up and learn the rulebook. Lads getting prosecuted could s2 points
