  1. Yes ,slowly at first the pockets started to grow & have now reach high levels up from 80% kill on the first release. The virus still does a great job in 90% of the land in New Zealand . While my dogs enjoy a feed of rabbit once a week I couldn't feed they full time on it ,it fails to have any real fat that, dogs require for stored energy. Dogs are about the only animal who can eat up to 40% of their diet in animal fat ,because I work mine hard I have to feed them well ,so I have an arrangement with my friend who has a home kill butchering business ,that I visit when I get a text once

  2. Slow cooked shoulder of a sika stag. Shredded the meat and reduced the liquid into a bbq sauce and mixed the meat back in. Genuinely feel that this is the equal of a pork or beef based equivalent. Curious to see how roe or fallow compares. Previous attempts were to a different recipe...

  3. My hobby turned into a full time job about 25 years ago & to me about the only differences is I now get paid .I work for myself as a contractor ,I cover 100,000 Acers,as long as I'm active how I get the job done & what hours I work is up to me ,Im paid a set amount per week 52 weeks a year .we don't do anything over the lambing which lasts about 4 -6 weeks .I don't do much night work off the 4 wheel motor bike. This local block doesn't have near the rabbit numbers it had when I first arrived when it was common to get 30 in a afternoon bushed out of all manner of cover .It took me abo

  11. As far as cold storage goes a decent coolbox with a frozen water bottle in it, it will give you a fridge anywhere for 5 days. I use a Coleman xtreme, took it on a 5 day river wye canoe trip in the blazing sun and food was still cool inside when I got home. With that and a camp stove there not much you can't cook

  12. All this we should stick together only sell to working homes for a reasonable price is a load of bollocks. The way working lurchers get passed about from pillar to post I would rather sell any surplus pups to pet homes knowing they have a permanent home and are not going to be passed on to the lurcher merry go round when the working home owner decides its not what they want or their bored and want to try another hobby!

  13. Up to the sheep farm tonight ( after a detour to FH’s to collect the buck ) met my mate there who is on a lifetime centrefire ban ( you know the one ), I took him the .17 for a bit of bunny bashing, he managed 5 for 5 shots, he shot one which was without doubt the longest rabbit I’ve ever seen shot with a .17, if only he could do that with a proper rifle. We did seen one fox but sadly it was in next doors field full of horses, I swear it knew I couldn’t take the shot, it knew we were there with the wind blowing from behind us, but just sat there about 80ish yards away Looking at us before turn

  14. There’s more to life than money. Did a favour for someone recently, saw them today and got given a nice big chunk of ribeye, dinner for two folk and same of t-bone, fresh cut, off cows that spend their live wandering the new forest. And I just went and dropped off two lambs in half lambs to my neighbours and a couple Other folk who live near who have to put up with the barking dogs and me coming back from lamping in early hours and making a racket. Got some fencing to do Monday, in exchange for some good digging etc. Nothing asked for but stuff always offered it good folk. It’s way of the coun

  15. Really like my young Collie bitch, 19 1/2” and 14 months. Been doing great ferreting, very biddable, sensible, great marker, also started marking moles. Can stop on hares, I don’t want her running them as I am trapping next to roads a lot. Fantastic little bitch, so pleased I went for another Collie. This is my second collie for ferreting, the other bitch was 20yrs back, had beddy whippet types for a few years and also terriers of different breeds up to 40yrs back, my old collie was my best ferreting dog but I won’t be surprised if this one doesn’t top her. I’m rather surprised that collies a

  22. Who said all pet homes are lovely? the majority of working dog lads are wnakers thats fact you only have to follow these forums or go on fb pages a short time to work that out, I have met dozens of working lurcher owners over the years and I can probably count on one hand how many I think are decent and not messers.

Drank a couple of bottles of red from the Priorat region here (life's too short to drink shit cheap wine). Woke up with a head like a convicted Chinese drug dealer... in pieces ? Rolled over for a bit of morning rumpy pumpy and she tells me to fuuck off ? Apparently last night whilst crawling to bed, I made a bit of noise ?

  29. Don't understand how someone can complain that it's only pet homes wanting he's dogs and when we say we will buy one and run it on as a working dog and then they don't even reply to a message, I think half the lads that keep bedlington lose there arse hole when you tell them you wanna try it to ground.. I wouldn't mind trying to source out some of that Swansea Jack stuff from what I remember he done a bit of digging with them

  31. I didn’t say it was best I’ve had. He was just a special little dog to me. But to be honest all of the ones that have made the grade have been special to me. And that’s only been four dogs, two now dead and two now in my kennels, one of which is retired. Like I said I’m no expert and not connected or owt, just enjoy my dogs and have a little close circle who are the same and we help each other out. As soon as my mate heard I lost my bitch he rang me and said you can breed from mine, to get some pups and the blood back. Another mate offered me his outstanding bitch to line to a dog of my choice

  37. That one I paid for mate, although to be fair he did it for less than asking price and let me have lick of the litter ? but like I said, I knew no one. I’d been back in the uk for I think two or three months when I booked the pup. That’s what I meant I bought my first runner, I was gifted the rest, although I’ve made them take money or given them something. My point was I’m. It connected etc. Just got a dog, did my best and met some sound folk along the way, always done them good turns abs had good turns back. This pup I’m getting, I’ll make the lad end up with 150-250 somehow ?, a good dinner

  38. ? now I don’t want to excite you too much but if it all goes to plan and she is a belter, she will have a Sal/bull/grey or the coursing type pup over her eventually. But good coursing blood is ten a penny, throw tHrm a bit of coin and they will Let their dog line anything. Real Good bull x bitches are hard to come by.

  39. It does indeed cost and that’s what I said to him, he has done one of the best jobs of a dam and litter I’ve seen, as he does with any dog he keeps. But as he said, having what he wants in his kennels and seeing his mates get pleasure from the same, is worth more than money. But there are lots of ways to repay a good turn than money. Money makes things dirty so easily. Edited to add - the dam was gifted to him by another in our group. So it goes round and round

  42. Heard a lot of stories about dogs/ people not being able to live of rabbit because of lack of fat which I totally agree with and understand but ferrets seem to thrive on it? Mine get nothing else bar the odd pheasant or woody and are in superb nick pretty much all year round. Silver jill I have I don’t think has ever eaten anything else and she is got a beautiful coat and a nice bit of condition to her, her brother on the same diet is a massively fat f****r! Just a thought! The situation in New Zealand is amazing to see, if i am not mistaken RVHD2 did a fair number on them 20 years ago so go
