  1. Had a tough day out in the mountains yesterday, weather was kind if nothing else & that's a bonus for sure! I'm sure age has a hell of a lot to do with how difficult I'm finding walking in & amongst the high tops these day's..I'm not going to lie it's becoming nigh on f###ing impossible for me to enjoy a days mooching about up there ?.. anyways,it turned out not too bad in the end, what I have realised & i have to admit I had a tear in my eye is that Boots is all but finished now,he has recently seen his 9th birthday & like a good friend of mine told me yesterday if a dog at 9 ye

  4. Well my mate could not get out today so I set off to a wood to do a few burrows I knew I could do solo. Set off up this big hill and as I neared the wood I stopped to taking in the view and some air, could be altitude sickness or more probably just getting old lol. Still stunning place can see for miles. Nearly there the wood is in view. Inside it's a steep old wood not much cover just leaves. I know just about all the burrows so its just a matter of finding one thats open and not blocked with the leaf litter. So tilled up a few blanked and another blank beginning t

  5. I live in Cumbria..if you ain't prepared to travel 2-4 hours away you needn't keep a dog well not if you want to test it anyways, that's how it's been for 30 years now..barren of gear in the vast majority of places up here..200 mile plus nightly trips I done 4/5 nights weekly when I lived for the hours of darkness..I can never understand all this 'if only you were closer & it's too far away' sh##e,we live on a tiny island where you can go from north to south in less than a day in a car ?

  9. Worth a try but I find these tend to zip right through with little expansion. I'd check the zero with the 17g V-Max! That will confirm 2 things, first, that the ammo batch is fine (or not) and second, it is accurate! Cleaning has been mentioned, you will get all reactions to this from NEVER clean it, the zero takes ages to come back, or my view, clean it regularly, but make sure you clean it thoroughly. Too many people give them a quick run through, simply raise fouling and then complain its worse than before they started. And be careful, that tiny little bore needs to be treated

  10. Went lower down in the woods. Theres a nice 15 hole burrow I've had a few out in the past and sure enough saved the day. Tilled up entered the smallest of my ferrets and after 3 or four minutes a lovely rattle and its out. Well not much but I have to say it was a beautiful day and nice just walking around with only the rustle of the leaves as I walk through the woods. Just making my way up through to get out and came on a nice group of Wood Blewits and had a bag in my pocket so little bonus there. One of them days that reminded me of days with my first ever fer

  11. You don’t need to go to those places to see animal cruelty, every c**t walking round with a fat dog in a duffle coat should be arrested for animal cruelty, but only when it fits an agenda and at the moment it’s only working dogs of any sort under attack ??

  14. Decided to do something a bit different for remembrance parade today. Normally go to the local service but decided to tie it in with a walk up on Dartmoor. Decent weather and a couple of decent runs. I stumbled across a plaque when I was up there over the summer so we decided to do our 2 minutes silence there.

When Ruby had not long seen her 14th birthday we took it upon ourselves to walk the Lairig Ghru drovers path right through the heart of the Cairngorms, the path reaches a height of almost 3000ft & is surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the UK including Braeriach,Cairn Toul,Angel's Peak etc & we done it on what was the hottest day of the year,no shade & the temp was in excess of 30c,the distance covered was 23 miles, she walked the whole route in one day & in human years she would of been over a hundred year's of age..as we were walking towards the Linn of Dee in the evenin

  19. I bet if the both of you had to do it all again you wouldn’t change a thing. Looks like he has had a good life and done you proud. Wise words from your friend. I once carried my dog into the vets and someone commented on the extent of his injury and called me irresponsible. Vet turned to them and said “this dog does what he’s bred to do and has a great life doing it…..what’s irresponsible is having an overweight Labrador like yours that’s never walked off the lead ?.

  20. So you can as a member of the public basically decide whether actions of protesters in blocking the roads including preventing emergency services from attending incidents can be classed as acceptable? We all saw the footage even if you didn't. Other members of the public would disagree with your opinion, so what makes you think that you are right? And where do you draw the line; making you late for work is OK, but what about missing a flight for a family's holidays or not getting home to be able to look after your child? You don't make up what is acceptable and what isn't on the hoof bec

  21. Totally agree. KG12 copper solvent or something similar will do the trick . I keep my barrels spotless and don’t have any problems. On the other hand I rarely clean my 22lr barrel until I start to notice the accuracy dropping off a bit , then I use a lead solvent cleaner and then put a few shots down range to get things back on track .

I hear a lot being said about travellers some justified some not but back when my old man had perm all over .A friend of my grandad and family who was a traveller and what I would call a true sportsman we would take out from time to time .I learnt so much from him .he never run a hare till late Nov but did hunt them in his earlier years with a r in the month .always owned a good dog carried a ferret in a old pound cloth sack with a dozen nets in his pockets .he was a black belt with snares and long and gate nets .he once bollocked me for lamping a hare he said you want to test your dog agains

  27. Big 1 today ? and lucky to get the rabbit, jill killed to ground. Lesson learnt and collar batteries ordered. 1st time since was a kid stupidly going without them collared up. Just couldn’t quite reach the rabbit. Started to think before that if she’s not killed to ground does this little 3 holer link up to big warren further down I’d left. Public land forestry block full of dog walkers left spade in van and didn’t get there early, spur of the moment to go today. Ferret surfaced got back to van and drove round other side of the wood through a building site compound just to dig a rabbit. Securi

As I say, I wasn’t being rude because I know it’s standard practice for a policeman to want me to believe that the headlight matters as much as the mugging but on normals peoples planet earth it doesn’t

  32. An absence of evidence, is not evidence of absence mate, and for the people that are genuinely interested and those that have actually been bothered and got involved things are still moving along nicely, but there will always be those who are happy to sit at the back heckling to look smart whilst doing nothing about it, no different here mate, you can name the people that will ruin a thread before it even starts and it’s always the same group led by the little fat lad with no mates ?
