I admire my old dad . He never had a famous line of terriers never wrote a book never grassed nobody never tolerated thieves . Although he did have a line of terriers. He always had a dog that was there when you broke through, always had a good lurcher even had good chickens . Proper countryman proper stockman and other than he’s mates or trusted men that he sported with no c**t knew him , just the way he like it lol13 points

Me and viz hit the big perm tonight 6500 acres we got there for 8.20ish and not long after that viz got his first in the bag then his second not long after that he was using his vulcan .25 now i have to say that this rifle is superb accuracy is unbelievable the pellet just go.s where you point it this rifle combined with the thermal scope is a force to behold it just blew me away (rez if you read this you would be a fool if you did not go for one of these ) the cocking leaver is near the middle of the rifle and not at the back with most bull pups so its not i8 points

I think be best ta save our admiration for terrier lads of the next 10 20 years and so on cause with the restrictions on terrier work only goin ta get harder and the freedom ta work terriers to a fairly decent standard anyone that can keep a producing working line under these conditions deserve it imo.7 points

I take it this is more for pest control than sport,to me thats completely alien, and is a step away from real working conditions,ie the natural home of the animal. As for men working their animals at the end of the dig being classed as twats, its a bit harsh,as those men in the past created and shaped the dogs into the form they are today ....i attended the trials as a very young man,i met some of the creators and owners of the dogs ,and twats isnt the discription id give of them..6 points

I've got four bitches and four dogs, it's a pain in the arse for a few weeks in the year but it's a small price to pay. On a personal note, work wise, I've had far more top class dogs than bitches but I'd sooner work a bitch, bitches IMO form a closer bond with you and try and please, where dogs tend to be more independent.6 points

Woke up to a beautiful morning so decided today would be the day to take a few off my new kits as well as more experienced ferrets out for a quick hunt before the weather got to hot.grabbed one of my white hobs and 3 white gills kits as well as 2 polecat gills and headed out with the misses.just a short drive from my place and arrived to see bunnies everywhere which isn’t unusual in this particular spot as there use to seeing plenty off joggers and the like.found a couple of sandy warrens the pics don’t show much but there were holes all over the place put out the purse nets set up the long ne5 points

I don't agree with that last bit Glyn, fair enough they lay the foundation of the dogs we keep now but they didn't actually do a great deal with them if you read all the bumf and fluff in the books. I'm not trying to take anything away from them but with the motor cars and travel there's lads doing numbers and digs they could only dream of.5 points

Poitin. I drank a bottle on Tuesday and went to bed and never got up until Thursday. The most amazing part was not eating, drinking or peeing for 48 hours and still been clean. Whole body just shut down.5 points

Those strikes aren’t always possible then what happens give the fox another few paces till it becomes available? A pace or two is all some foxes need and their gone. I think a good fox dog is fully committed and will strike when the first opportunity presents itself.4 points

Well I'm retired now worked from 15 till 66 so many different job list as long as your arm. Recon 1982 was the toughest 12 million unemployed 22% inflation, gave up my groundworks business. I was a main contractor on a site in Exeter but when it got to the point where I was paying my lads more than I was getting after so many price cuts, I knocked it on the head. Found employment else where and did go back subbing again but it was never the same. If your a grafter and do a good job then your reputation go's before you which really helps when you're after a new start. Did all sorts to make ends4 points

Bullshit Str that does not mean the quieter terrierman has any less of a terrier for me Marshmans Da is the true terrierman not the guy who feel the need to push the front so his terriers has to be recognised why is there a need for such thing. If a terrierman is doing right by himself who gives a f**k about fame. Dig over your dog and praise them not look to be praised yourself. Otherwise money comes into it and we all know what road that leads too eventually .3 points

I used to go to a farm in the vale of York we’re I shot a rabbit with no ears but the ear stumps were bloody still, I showed the farmer who told me he had just cut the grass for hay and sometimes over the years he cut ears of rabbits doing this, latter that year I got another lamping with the dog which had no ears but the stumps were a bit scabby but fur was starting to grow over the stumps.3 points

Did only two lads create the black terrier and did all blacks started from their yards? I’m sure lads all over the country where crossing bulls with fell terriers and producing rough and smooth haired black dogs, which in turn they bred and replicated all around the same time as buck and breay did, or even before. It was a time before the internet and plenty of lads would have gone unnoticed especially lads who didn’t attend the shows, work for hunts or go in a book. Just a thought.3 points

I've been lucky enough to meet alot of people who have become names in this game , there was a time when you would sit in a small pub the Queens or the Railway for a Fell and moorland meeting and there were some bloody good terriermen sat around you many of whom have spent the rest of their lives working and breeding terriers , i admire Brian Nuttalls knowledge of line breeding not so much the sales pitch John Park was just great to chat with but you never knew if it was the truth or he was filling you full of shit lol , looking back would of loved to of Chatted with Mr Breay , he and F.Buck s3 points

Current crop of young ‘uns in work at the moment are snowflakes. They won’t tackle most things, always play the health and safety card and sit quietly in the canteen looking at YouTube. I’ve taken to have my dinner out on the moor and not go into the office unless I have to. The dart board has gone, the card school has gone, the push penny table has gone, curry night on Mondays has gone, having a kick about in the yard has gone, they just sit staring at their phones and polishing their cars ?3 points

I was a youngster in the 70,S and think it was brilliant, I may have rose tinted spectacles on but I feel life takes a massive down hill turn when money becomes our objective, I never had fa so never missed fa we made do and neighbours helped each other out instead of grassing each other up as seems to be the norm today, poverty is the mother of invention and would many of us not be the men we hope we are today if we had not had to struggle and fight for everything we now have ??? to the 70s from me3 points

I thought that too. But some of the cork lads with white dogs are top men. No money changed hands which is the cause of all evil. They would fill your yard with dogs if they trusted you.Every dog was gifted and if circumstances changed then you would call them first before moving dogs. That doesn't mean that that phone calls don't happen and arguments happen but I'd call that passion and you can argue about ability over whichever dog or lines but money was never mentioned.2 points
