  4. This was a pic from our last day of the season, hounds marked on this steep bank, early in the morning At the bottom and along by the path is a deep river, which I fell into on my way to the mark. Soaked to the bollocks. As you can see, it wasn't the day for an early morning dip. To add to my misery the whole field were standing up over the mark looking down at me as I was getting out of the river. I'll tell you it was a long drag up that bank to the mark with the shouts and whistles from all the lads. Every cloud has a silver lining and probably out of pity, I got to use my Ru

  8. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel. More concentrating on how honesty pays off long term and how a lot of folk get on the way they do for no reason. If everyone listened to what you where told by others, somtimes you’d be second guessing yourself. But seeing is believing. A lad not far from me has a lot of contacts and breeding in his yard, whether they’re good or not is another issue, he certainly thinks they’re the best! He runs about name dropping, breeding etc. thinks he’s the pope of the terriers. Any local young lads he’s brought out with him, he’s telling them wh

I’ve been gifted plenty Eddie and turned down plenty and if the dog didn’t suit for what ever reason who ever I got it off would be offered it back and if there was a breeding to be done he’d be the first man I’d go to, But if I was offered a pup and then told what I can and can’t do with it the offer would be declined.

  11. With the invention of the net its probably easier these days to contact folks in regards to sourcing a lining/pups.... Back in the day not everyone had a phone so you wrote to the person or checked the classifieds etc.... There's probably more folks driven buy money these days than say 30 yrs ago...... And more of a minefield for folks looking for genuine workers. There's always been wrong uns evolved in dogs..... I'd say more so these days imo. Some folks always seem to have litters on the ground these days.... Breeding from sub standard dogs and selling lads a dream?

  13. The cake wasn't for a gay wedding so they can't say it hurt their feelings. It was a slogan supporting gay weddings in general. They searched out a shop with Christian values and tried to get this reaction. If they walked into a shop as a couple and were embarrassed in front of other people I could have a tiny bit of sympathy, they didn't, they went looking for a place that would react in this way to get a reaction. They would never of tried it in a Muslim cake shop would they.

  18. Another thing that’s been said on this thread that I think is bollox is men gifting pups and then telling the men what they can and can’t do with said dog, so all your really doing is rearing, entering, working another mans dog, bolloxs to that MY dogs are MY dogs and I’ll do what I like with them.

  21. The reason why some some won't go back to the breeder is the very reason those lads arnt gifted many terriers .It's not rocket science to know that the person with the most knowledge of the type is the lad who' bred and worked the line .Annoys when some disegard the breeder in favour of doing it their way then rubbish the type for their f**k up .If you want decent stock from a decent lad ,do the decent thing and ask his opinion on whats best for the future ,otherwise stick with your scatterbreds and muddle on .

  24. The thing with being gifted the type of blood some speak of has a few advatages...1. Is the bond between the 2 men the man gifting and the man receiving..money can NOT buy the blood from the man he morally detests money and dogs.. 2. knowledgeable men who gave you the blood for free so have no reason to lie wat so ever about lineage or ability..3. The reason why you will be gifted the pup you will think like the man gifting as regarding working or matings..and a lifelong friendship with a like minded individuals who love to do exactly as you do and have the tools to do it....?

  26. It comes to us all when we keep working dogs and today was my time to say goodbye to an old friend and worker. When I made the transition from being a soldier to starting a business as a pest controller she was my main dog and without her I would never have made it. She was an honest worker who would get up out of the kennel and work seven days a week with never a grumble. She took some serious knocks in her working career and a few i genuinely thought had killed her. I've lost count of the amount of times I stitched her up out on a job and she just got up and carried on working.

  28. At night wmr would be fine as is hmr. In the day my wmr has reached out to 150yds easily with little hold over. You can buy fmj ammo for wmr to cut down on bruising but in all honesty head shot bunny is fine for table fare in wmr. Hornady do a 25grn wmr loading that is very fast and flat over rabbit shooting distance! Where wmr gains is if you run into charlie, it will penetrate without the risk of a shallow wound, something I have witnessed in the hmr!! For rabbits try HV ammo in your 22. It makes for a genuine 100yarder rabbit gun! U.

  29. To me it comes down to personal choice they are both a very good round for 120+ yard bunny bashing, the WMR is a good hard hitting round but then again the .17 is flat and fast, the down side to the .17 is it is a little bit more affected by wind and they do make a bit of a mess, so head shot is required if you want to eat what you shoot, saying that I really like the .17 and own two of them, the main thing I like about it is I do a lot of night shooting and I don’t tend to have to work out distance, just put it in the crosshairs and squeeze the bang switch

  34. A quick trip out after a busy day at home to try and up the cull buck figures. They’re starting to wise up here now and the wind direction meant and new route was needed. The ground was quite damp and trying to crumble leaves to ascertain the shifting faint breeze made me think of a new ‘essential’ bit of kit.. I desperately need a wind puffer! Anyway, a slow meander along a flicking ear gave a doe away as she walked towards me about 70m away. She kept looking over her shoulder so I got on the sticks and got ready just in time for a buck to emerge behinde her. A six pointer in tatters bu

  41. The west meath working terrier show was a working dogs man day out and always has been since the first days in a small stone walled field.. Kevin and Pat put the Working back into shows regarding terrier men showing up. They have been more than instrumental in their work to not only protecting but promoting terrier work.. if the iwtf do put on a show it will only to fill a void to hopefully the boys get back on track. ?
