  5. There was an article about Selous in the Shooting Times back in the 60s , once at his Birmingham Gun makers he was asked to review a Rigby Double barrelled Elephant gun , in a hurry to leave he fired it through an open window at a distant Chimney pot then wrote a quick review which said . A splendid weapon for making a large hole in the Fuzzey Wuzzeys at three hundred yards. I think Rider Haggards Alan Quartermain was based on him.

  7. Managed to get out for a few hours last night, met up with Chris and drove off to hit the orchards.Unpacked and realised I had left my torch AND r-10 magazines at home. So we changed plans and had a mooch around the maize stubble up the road.Chris's trusty Air Arms did the trick.Hopefully get a few more on Sunday with the dogs and long nets.

  8. Well I managed to find a quiet spot when the wind dropped and tried out the FAPs v AA fields at 32 yards from a bipod. Hardware of choice! First up, AA Fields. Then the FAPs And then a couple of close ups of the two. AA Fields on the left. For me, the AA field just take by a midges bo*#ock but there really isn't anything in it. Cheers for reading lads??

  11. Afternoon All, Today I was lucky enough to spend the day with THL member Rabid. He invited me over to shoot some targets and have a chat. I had a cracking time, we spent some good time on the targets and whilst i shot okay towards the end my form was WAY off to start with, so much so that when Rabid actually looked through some binos at the target he said "Bloody hell..." I don't think he quite knew what he'd got himself into. As I say, I got progressively better towards the end of the day and I put the bad shooting down to the wind and the fact it was my first time shooting somewhere ne

  16. Maybe the original poster of this topic has got the reaction he was after!!!!. yes this site comes up on a google search but so do plenty of other sites, then there is the "allegedly"bit, i don`t have a scooby if what he says is true or not but to vilify a man on, at best, a Chinese whisper is not for me i`m afraid.

  19. I have started a new mink project! Meet my newest mink. Brocc- named after the old English word for "badger" because of his big thick head and shoulders and brazenly confident personality. He is a happy-go-lucky 8 month old buck who is super confident and friendly with humans, yet very intense and highly aggressive towards prey. Ine'sa'be- is a highly driven, highly aggressive, 8 month old buck that wants to bite everything that moves! His name means "black fire" in the Omaha Native American language. Thashishi- is an old retired breeder mink from a fur farm. Her name means "

  24. Tough call this one. The forums have been the evolution of the hunting community in a sense. Back in the day, you had to wait for the CMW and EDRD to read your latest hunting news. Today you can log into any one of these forums to tell stories or post shite depending on your inclination. Will the braggarts, hard men, and bullshitters kill hunting? That's a tough one. Many moons ago when some of us were posting/moderating on this forum, and others that have since closed, we argued the same points. Stop posting graphic images. Stop giving people ammunition to use against us. We were vilifie

Terrible thing to happen in this day and age ,I hope Will somehow finds the strength to go on and that the abuser is punished to the full extent of the law That anybody let alone a national treasure like Will is still being subject to this kind of abuse is cause for us all to hang our heads in shame .

Not something that has ever really interested me and as for the whole secret handshakes getting them out of trouble thing well I'm sure it goes on sometimes but it's no different to all "old boys clubs" etc, get the right judge and wearing the right type of old school tie to court will get you out of trouble too I'm sure! One thing I will say though is all the Masons I've known have been the most stand up individuals you could hope to meet. Decent men in their day to day lives and they do a feck load for charity through their lodges. Now whether that's down to them being Masons or not I c

  29. To be fair Matt, 810fps is a fair ol' rate of knots ....... If the pellet is accurate, those FAPs will crumple and split up fast on impact - they'll do the business Just for giggles: 810fps = 552mph. ...... Nothing's going to dodge that mate

"Think of it this way: Before our result, you’d be considered a pessimist if you imagined the probability of evolving a civilization on a habitable planet was, say, one in a trillion," Frank said in a statement. "But even that guess — one chance in a trillion — implies that what has happened here on Earth with humanity has in fact happened about 10 billion other times over cosmic history."

  33. ....the dog is savvy, I followed him barking a good way then lost him. I had to hang around until I heard a vixen and my dog fox answering her. Where they were was not surprising. I was noticing activity recently there and it is traditionally a favourite spot. I got on the vixen but the dog kept a low profile and knows what a lamp is! A sixty yards shot put straight to sleep. Once retrieved and photo taken some time passed, I put her in a handy spot in case I can out of bed tomorrow morning. When I was creeping away I looked back and the swine was checking his dead bird! He himself is a black smelly old pleb, it is true he keeps his dogs in cages 20+ in his council house, how he gets away with it I don't know, when I spoke to him there was quite a few thing that were apparent, when talking about his line, it was what it was, a sales pitch, his treatment of a woman I was with, made it clear he hated the her, then his pish talk about bare knuckle fighting was the icing on the cake, its clear there's mental health issues, good luck

  35. That's the thing Stiffmeister, if you were just guessing or falsely quoting the man you could be completely wrong but he was the one himself who showed himself to be a massive hypocrite . I started collecting his books when I was 13 or 14 and always noticed that he mentioned that dogs suffer when chopped and changed from yard to yard (something I agree 100% with and to this day still wont let my dogs be passed around) but the book "Diary of a Hunter" frequently mentioned him loaning dogs left ,right and center. Some things stick in your mind and maybe he did influence my future in dogs, b

  36. CHRISTENED MY GC 500 CALLER! Fell asleep after my dinner and woke at 9 in a daze and got my gear together for a look about. On arriving at the permission I realised I had picked up the bolt for my hmr and not the .222, schoolboy error ! Drove home and swapped the bolts and headed back out, didn't see anything about at all at the first place and after an hour or so decided to go to the horse paddocks on a different permission. Had the caller out at approx 120 yards with the rabbit 1 call playing and within 5 minutes this vixen came trotting along from the right heading for the cal

  39. I've used WD40 quite happily as a lube by coating a cloth with it and then, rolling a batch of .22 H&N FTTs prior to shooting with my HW80 .22 and HW77 .22 rifles. Had fantastic accuracy and they don't diesel in the breech if you coat your ammo this way. You don't get oil in the skirt that causes it. So far so good. HOWEVER. I have tried lubing .22 JSB Jumbo Heavies 18.83g pellets for my .22 Pro Sport and these pellets do not like lubing with anything one bit. Accurate as you can be when they are washed clean of dust and bits, dried and put to work on the zeroing range. Absolute scatte
