  2. If you think you need to add strong dog to your terriers...then I would be looking at a different line of digging dogs personally...I would sooner put black to white,at least you be digging them the next season and not breeding litters for wastage because of their size and working style...one of the reasons why I only keep good working bitches, because when folks hear how good they are....you have a choice of studs? decent dogs are 2 a penny imo...get your bitches right...and everything else should fall into place....well that's my take on it??

  6. Our next shoot is next Monday and it is the.410 kids charity day. It’s always a good day, we usually shoot 50/60 birds with a good little calibre and raise a fair lump of dosh for the kids whilst we are at it.

  7. You can’t predict the weather but one thing’s for certain, a few birds, a few shots, some nice nibbles and some good people and it’s going to be a good day ? ( just got fingers crossed that we get to see the season out now, without another bloody lockdown ?)

  8. I've, after many years of hunting, have learnt not apply the "why don't they do it this way" and except that its THEIR way ,arrived after many years chasing the game of choice .I really enjoyed watching the video ,some skilled dogs there for sure & as already stated very interesting. Any type of chase on that ground is boarding on being dangerous, a broken leg would be common I'm guessing ,and I doubt many dogs would make old age. This might be the reason as to the number of dogs being worked at one time ,in the advent of a mishap, there are plenty to carry on next week .Cheers for sha

  11. Over the last 18 months or so I feel that i have really progressed as an angler; Im lucky enough to not only fish in a club with a high level of competition but also to actually fish with some very competent anglers and then I've also had alot of help and guidance from our own Arry. I spent the first half of the year chasing a spotted ray but unfortunately failed on that and then from august til now i have been targetting mainly smalleyes and thornbacks with the odd session hussing. Ive managed to fish some beautiful places and seen some really interesting things along the way and have managed

  20. After much deliberation on what to fill my vacant slot with i opted for a calibre and got a variation done last week. The original slot was for a .22 semi auto which was as much use to me as a dose of cholera, due to there not being many rabbits about. I thought about another small c/f like a 22 hornet but eventually decided against it because i didn't want to be reloading another calibre. I had previously had a 17 hornet and dismissed that because reloading for it is a faff and factory ammo is far too expensive. I also had to think about which rifle i wanted and to be honest m

Add some meat and bones to the abstract. First off is the very first, known, Prototype that Frank Sawyer ever produced, when he turned his mind to designing a rabbit trap that could replace the Gin. Yep. Okay, Frank. We see the way ye thinking. Take an old Flat Spring ye happen to have to hand and come up with a set of scissor action jaws? Not sure how it fires, mate. But, yep. See

  26. I was going to say this yesterday but got distracted. Just an interesting (to me) observation. I’ve spent some time in and around children’s care homes in Denmark and also in the uk. Here in the uk they tend to be quite institutionalised facilities where everything is monitored and done by the book etc etc, kids are either profiled as “poor wee children” or “little tearaways”. Generally they have massive failure rates with very poor future outcomes for the kids that are placed there. No compare that to the Danish model I saw. These children’s homes had house ‘fathers’ and house ‘mothers’,

  31. A long time ago in World long forgotten I had a young JB bred bitch that surprisingly made 24” at the shoulder. I went for a mooch about one Saturday afternoon/ Evening with the pup just over a year old and the old dog who was 10. We circled round the farm so we could come up to the hotspot with the wind in our faces. We dodged through the wood because two men could be seen around the the barn that was being built in an adjacent field even then people didn’t like our way of life. The pup was off her lead but the old dog firmly on a slip because frankly he’s a dick. Just into the wood and a Coc

  36. I would agree with your words.? Kids should be loved and protected....dodgy feckers should be beaten severely...? I remember on a recent carpet buying trip to Turkey,.. there was a beautiful fat baby boy, sitting with his parents. It was great to see him getting hugs and kisses from everyone on the plane...he was like the communal baby...? By complete contrast,.. I was trapping Grey Squirrels in a local school, and as I made my way up the stairs into the roof space of the building, a group of young lads were rushing madly down the stairs. They were cheeky wee feckers, and

  38. Day 4 ( my day and the Christmas shoot ) not the best day weather wise, with thick fog all day, the birds just didn’t know what was expected of them once they got above the trees, they were getting up and a fair few went back on themselves or sat in the tops of the trees once they reached the fog, we did the usual drives, first off was the “ tip drive “ and again some good birds came for the end of this drive, my guest Mosh took probably the 2 birds of the day from this one, next was “ Gordon’s pen “ and as expected the birds couldn’t deal with the fog but at least everyone got a few shots off

  39. No different to nets. But the point is they're something a bit different. A pure bred rabbit hunter on some pretty tricky ground where nets might be impractical doing their stuff. I find it interesting to see how others have dealt with problems similar to our own.
