Having grown up with John he was a lifelong family friend, was best man at my Brothers wedding and a work colleague to myself for the last few years. As young kids our little gang spent god knows how many hours tramping the mountains after rabbits with just my little Jack Russell to keep us company. We caught virtually nothing but spent all day laughing and ripping the piss out of each other - is there a better way to spend your formative years? We also had some great drunken times playing rugby for the village where John was a little tasmanian devil of a hooker, we didn't half rip the piss ou16 points

Turned the phone on earlier and had lots of missed calls/messages off lads on here....and then a message saying Owain is trying to get hold of you....I knew it was Johnny when I heard that... I'm honestly gutted, met him at the first comp and he's been the main man ever since... funny, kind, humble, clever... he was a really good bloke and his kids are a credit to him and his wife... You do meet friends on here and he was certainly one of my friends.. I know all the lads on here who knew him are gutted, the phone ain't stopped! RIP Butty...11 points

What a cracking evening mate, you've got a beautiful bit of land and only 15 or so minutes from the front door. It couldn't have worked out any better, you know the land like the back of your hand and it paid dividends. The Buck was an absolute corker for my first one and his head will be kept as a reminder of a brilliant rememberable evening. With the added bonus of pigeon shooting?? I'll be busy butchering and knocking up some burgers as everyone is asking for them, I must be doing something right? got to keep the landowners happy? Thanks again for this evening topped of8 points

The night started with the collection of longshanx at about 6:45 and headed to the first farm, on arrival the old man was in the yard, shortly joined by one of his sons, we had a chat for a bit and we were pointed in the direction of a small wood with a field of oilseed rape in front of it, as we reached the edge of the rape I glassed along the edge of the wood and into a ruff bit of set aside. Within a couple of minutes two deer appeared from the wood and ran up the set aside, so we set off along one of the track in the rape towards the deer, stopping from time to time for a look about, where8 points

We had corgi x Russell when I was a kid. I've yet to see his equal for biting postmen, milkmen, paperboys, neighbours and relatives. My dad took him to the vet and got his knackers chopped off in the hope of calming him down so unfortunately none of the blood survives today. The operation didn't calm him down and if anything made him even angrier but the story has a happy ending as my dad found him a good home living on a farm even though we were never allowed to visit.4 points

Not been on these boards for a while, thanks to Dave for letting me know this sad news . Johnny was the 1st fella I met at the very 1st fishing comp , introducing me to all the lads and making me feel most welcome! Over the years going to the comps he brought his young family with him and I have to say they are a credit to him. John was a very funny lad and without his good humour and quick wit I don't think the comps would of made half the amounts in the raffles. It was a pleasure to have known him as it is all the lads I've met on here. God bless you John R.I.P3 points

I used to enjoy reading the Shooting News. After looking at the letters page and classified used to see if Darergi had submitted an article. Seemed genuine. Liked the old Border/Lakeland types that he seemed to have.3 points

I know a few that cut a hole in a sock and put a pigeon inside, the dog will retrieve the pigeon without a mouth full of feathers. Good for starting pups.3 points

There be that low to the ground the keeper when he’s looking for poachers will over look them. there work to ground as well no need for ferrets anymore lad there’s are the perfect poachers dog no need of any other xs no more in the running dog an no need for terrier for digging fox these corgi whippets are so efficient there take fox on the lamp because they won’t see what’s coming due to there low centre of gravity making them very efficient no other cross in the running dog came cam come close as these are the best blood line in the country from a courseing whippet Irish bred to one of the q3 points

Tomo, you're not seriously contemplating getting a dog off this clown?! IF, and when they're born, they'll be no different to any other half decently bred first cross whippet/greyhounds. And I think you'd know that. I seriously cringe every time I read his posts on here, doing his best to 'big them up' in what are very badly written appraisals of 'bowline' dogs, and all the other shite about 'longdogs' and 'brown hares', etc etc. Mind you, at the same time, it does give me a good giggle! Lol. Yours in sport, Shaaark. ? ?3 points

Pigeons have extremely loose feathers and can mess up a dog retrieve very easily. A guy once told me to cut the corner off a plastic bag and poke the pigeons head through for training. He reckoned it would make the dog retrieve the pigeon by its head only. He said dogs don’t like the feeling of a plastic bag in their mouths!!! I never did give it ago, my dog at the time used to nick any plastic carrier bags left laying around and rip them to shreds if given the chance.3 points

Referees don’t have to sign anything now, the applicant just needs to put the referee’s details on the form. Personally, I wouldn’t be a referee for anyone that I didn’t genuinely regard as suitable. I don’t want guns in the wrong hands any more than the police do.3 points
