  1. All my family used to go and do this every year from way back.....I used to love the smell of the hop fields when I was a kid although the tradition had stopped with my brothers generation. We lived on a little small holding just outside Sandwhich in Kent and right in amongst the fields.....Sandwhich still had its old cattle market then.....it’s a car park and supermarket now Sadly now all lost.......I miss MY England Anyway, I hope some of you enjoy ?

  8. Back up at the shoot at first light ( ish ) this morning, strimmed out a couple of feed areas as the birds are on the move, they are not taking masses of feed but they are enjoying the brambles and acorns, there seems to be fallow about in good numbers so with a bit of luck and if I can address my work/ shooting balance I’ll sort out an evening with FH for a look out after a buck ?

  9. I remember as a kid sitting around my Nan and Grandads fire in there house in the East End with the telescopic fork making toast and smothering it with Beef dripping and the conversation always turned to hopping and the many stories attached to it the joy in my nans face of the good times they had will never be forgotten. It also used to turn to war stories as well my Grandad used to help retrieve the dead from the bombed out houses as the East End took a big hit during world war 2. Its funny thinking about it a lot happened around that fireplace we made pickled onions red cabbage ho

  10. I had this one back in the olden days, she would do everything that I put in front of her. It wasn’t until her fourth season working that she connected with a roe but once she did I have never seen another dog take them like her. Times are different now and as a rabbit hunter this dog would bring me nothing but trouble as but it’s great to see the fine specimens on this thread.

  19. Hope you both have some success. Just an idea Stavross. Inviting someone for fallow can sometimes be a bit hit and miss . A little trick I’ve done in the past which works is to bait an area . I’ve used carrots, fodder beet / sugar beet , alternatively pony nuts . Works well especially with some molasses. I know it’s not really stalking for the purists but it will certainly help fill the chiller. And can save a disappointing long drive . Worth keeping as a backup if all else fails sort of thing. Good luck and looking forward to a scary picture of you with a fallow.?

  20. I am busy with my fallow culling at the moment. I don’t know about you FH but I keep culling until they start to stink and then leave it till just before Christmas . Then hopefully get a few bob for them then . At the moment the game dealer says he doesn’t want any deer but will take them and pay me £1 a kilo . I’d rather give them to friends.

  21. I was quoted £500 to do some welding on my jimny by a garage. I thought feck that I will weld it myself.so bought a welder and a bottle of gas and cracked on.im a welding virgin myself.but practice on a bit of scrap metal for a good while untill you feel confident.a 2ft x 2ft and a 1ft x 1ft of 2mm sheet metal cost £12 bargain I thought. My lad snapped his gaming chair right at the bottom the spot welds gave way.by the dish shaped foot.before I would have to throw it away.but put a seam weld all the way around it and it's spot on even stronger than before.. Get a welder and go for it

  27. I have numerous slips and leather leg O mutton bags for my shotguns and rifles but to be honest I don't used them much if at all when I take a rifle out night shooting. I just plant the rifle on the back seat and go. I've never had any problem with this. It doesnt look like those bags pictured above have ever seen any mud or blood.

  31. Glad you got it sorted Mark. When I was a lad, I used to shoot crows with an old bsa single magnum. It was a light gun and my uncle and his mates used to give me eley magnums to use in it. They used to laugh every time I took a shot, and only just managed to stay on my feet?

  38. I will create a thread about hunting dogs and earth in Uruguay to show photos and videos of how it is hunted and dogs that are used that are far from being standard dogs of a breed, but they are functional dogs, here no matter the colo not the breed, if the dog does well his job is a hunting dog and is how true it matters !! this is the other hunting current that if you use pedigree dogs to hunt with hunting lines, I don't use that for its price, it's not profitable for me and for the hunters who live off the hunt, only functional dogs why they showed it in the field

  39. We’ll prove me wrong terryhero show me your hunting pics and I’ll take back what I said, any self respecting dog man that had any pride in his dogs wouldn’t put a pic up like that, I’ll stand by what I said, pic is a disgrace.

  40. it's not Jr,it's bull terreir x Fox terrier wire x whippet, the tail is between the legs is scared to be tied up, this dog never gets tied up, it's free, as I said I'm old school, I don't bathe dogs, they come from tired hunting to sleep and the next day I don't like dogs that aren't natural I look for non-beauty hunting functionality in a dog, so you won't see my bathed dogs not anything similar, they're non-city country, and I don't want to offend anyone by my style of raising hard hunting dogs and not beauty, I hunt all that can be eaten, and pests, Cazo to dogs and firearms

  41. We also had a local butcher that would actually buy anything you could get to the back door, never tested it but he would say if you can get a cow here with out being seen I,ll buy it ?????? sad story the game dealer that used to buy all the good unmarked meat is now a fishmongers and recently he had to shut down because of protests outside his shop because he was selling live signal crayfish what a dramatic change in under 50 years, we need to go back to a time of struggling and hardship before anything will change ??maybe if this virus and it’s remedy cause enough damage to modern life we ca
