This always makes me wonder - what is the point? Shooting foxes with thermal and nv is easy, no real sport, and if it’s poaching it’s Not pest control .... so what’s the compulsion? Genuinely think it’s really weird6 points

Was out walking local on Saturday afternoon and could hear a load of magpies making a racket..... Sat in the hedge and watched a big dog ? eating someone's light Sussex hen?, around 3:45 pm,lurcher winded him so had a little hunt of him and put him to ground in a nice little place I didn't know was there...... Put a trail cam up on the sunday to see how busy it is..... Dust off my digging gear for next weekend I think and pull the old choco bitch out of retirement.... Young dogs I got not interested still?6 points

I have found bull xs to be the least dog aggressive dogs. You shouldn't have any problems get em around as many dogs as you can and there wont be any problems5 points

Well I’ll be finished this in the next day or two and I’ve enjoyed it, ( Brian Tovey is just like one of the lads that used to take me out when I was a kid ) so if you want your name in the hat put it under this post and I’ll pick a winner at the weekend normal rules apply, once you have read it you have to put it back up for someone else to have a read ?4 points

I've only seen(walked out with) two black males off that line... Both were incredibly wired,..they caught rabbits that I doubted could be taken,...in truth, it was frightening to watch? Personally, I could not live with such intensity from a rabbiting dog,..but I can see why some folks, find them entertaining. My own, home-bred cur bitch, has a wee bit of the aforementioned blood in her breeding,..albeit, watered down somewhat... She is still, plenty hot enough for me though...? http://www.chalkwarren.co.uk/4 points

Some people will hail the HMR with much further distance, I actually agree on 130 yards and I'm easy up to that sort of distance with the HMR or WMR. If I know I'll be shooting further I take something bigger! Wind is an issue with every calibre, some more than others, but the HMR has a wind drift issue that I personally think is a bit overdone! Just the same, if you are in a particularly windy location and looking at medium,/long shots regularly, then perhaps a step up from HMR is a good idea!4 points

Well after a 10 hour round journey u finally found a pup, Welcome home Stan. 6.5 weeks old 1/4 bull 3/4 greyhound. Got to meet the sire and bitch and will put up a picture of the sire. Stunning dog at 29" and superb temperament which put my mind at ease with having young kids.4 points

Good frost this morning over here, first bit the hound hunted the fox for about an hour everybody got a slip! Then eventually he was caught 2nd bit we went to check a hole first, while walking up a fox bolted from the hedge, lurcher got a spin, but missed it went over to where it bolted from with terrier and there was a dry drain, terrier dropped and a vixen bolted, lurcher got a real good race and lifted it lovely! Then over to the hole,, terrier dropped, got a it handy for a change at 1.0, headed on to another bit, real good hunt and the fox managed to get away, cracking day4 points

How are lads finding fox numbers this year. Up or down? the rifle lads are doing serious damage in my area. Each to their own and all that but 4/5 foxs shot off the roads in a night couple of nights a week most of the year round isn’t going to last. And then night vision aswell... a Few years there will be nothing to hunt.3 points

Ain't that matey from Lurcher section who wants to breed some whirriers out of his pup? Anyway, I have to have a quick look at the comments on these things. Generally look to be not negative. Imagine if it was anything other than rats though....3 points

I know lads with terriers/lurchers that rifle with thermal . Can never understand feeding dogs in the kennel and killing your own sport with a rifle .3 points

I think thats part of what makes Mcgregor exciting....you know he has 5 - 7 minutes of danger and then he,ll go into survival mode. Beyond that i dont get why folk seem to dislike him he,s a young brash guy having fun... an engaging excitable character full of life...personally i dont see whats to hate.3 points

Just typical was out for a stroll with father and son and an earth that usually ends up 6ft plus which enticed me to enter the old fella ended up a handy 2footer. It would have been ideal for the younger dog as he is only starting and was bulling to go. I got a nice run for the beagle X's tho to bring em on.3 points

Went to a farm today and saw about 20 corvids on the stubble which flew away as I approached them.I decided to set out my decoys and put the hide up and see what happened.A few came back and I ended up with 37 picked up so worth setting up for.2 points

Hello, I just finished this hunter with 96mm blade from 1.3505, 115mm handle from bronze (solderd on as allways), raindeer spacer and sambar. The pommel from bronze as well, with the logo of the "Halali" hunting magazine. Kind regards Nicolas2 points

A few weeks ago I oiled the bolt on the 452 because it got soaked. This cold weather comes along and I start getting misfires! Stripped the bolt and yep full of black gunge, combustion material stuck to the oil! Cleaned it out and struck an empty case in the chamber with a clean dry pin and yep, much better dent. Also I removed some burrs while I was there. SD.2 points

Those Army jackets are made for war Arry, and obviously no expense has been spared to create them... However,...they would be a fecking nightmare anywhere near a Long Net... I see lots of lads out netting today, wearing those smock things,...they are real handy, but obviously, not cheap..?2 points

Great earth to hold alright it’s a pitty some lads found it and dug the bollox out of it ??, it’s always the same if u entered the pup it would of went deep?. Dogs all going well getting plenty of work for them hopefully we get another week or two of this cold weather. I dug one of the other lads with a dog I have yesterday morning at 0.9 great dig, went onto the hounds then and dug another bitch at a metre2 points

Recoil. Our natural desire is to get away from what we know is going to hurt us when in fact we are making it worse. When we try and hold off the gun even if very slight the gun imparts it's momentum in recoil to us abruptly because we ourselves are not recoiling with the gun....we become an obstacle that the gun recoils into and that is what is painful. When we have a good fitting gun and snuggle into it we actually become part of its mass....we add mass to the gun....we recoil as one and the recoil then feels much less. Does that make sense? Another tip I found works and2 points

I applaud your attitude, rushing to get a bird is the worst thing you could do, might I suggest you make 100 percent sure you have plenty of land to fly the bird before considering getting one, assuming of course you don't already have land.2 points

To be fair to the lad a 2p sized group @ 30 metres with a spring gun is not too shabby, assuming the pellets are shooting well in the rifle, a bit more practice should see an improvement and the magic 5p group achieved, I would suggest keeping to 20-25 yards as a maximum range at the moment, and working on field craft and stalking skills.2 points

Jimmy, Big Mac, would love that. Some stout string, or good elastic and this would keep his bald head nice and warm. x2 points

I've found this quite interesting for myself. We can all refresh and renew knowledge to become better. And we can notice the bad things that we have slipped into without realising. You picture is a bit misty but it looks like the stock is, a bit long causing the front hand to be a bit back and your head aways back. ( I think that the nose should be about three fingers from the rear hand on the wrist of the stock). The stock might be a bit low in the shoulder causing you to roll the head down and to the right. It's difficult to see from this angle. The Leg stance is a bit wide also. Some2 points

Your right mate I've owned 5 of mikes stuff and all have been shit but a lot say they are good so I must of been unlucky. As most know a show bred whippet as been the best for me for rabbits.2 points
