  1. I been passing a small holding in Suffolk for a fair while now looking at his rare breeds of pigs that are free range unlike the eu subsidised pig farms ,,, these are happy English free range , and thinking to meself I got to get some of that ,any old rd I got me a shoulder of Oxford sandy black I guess you could say I been looking forward to eating this for over a yr lol and now it’s sizzling in the oven ??????? Last wk I had a few roasted bits of Norfolk large black pig chops got to say the best pork I’ve ever eaten ? so ther i aIn am here sitting 2ft waiting for the pig to get out a

Was out on a shoot this morning and due to the sun shining and a wind to dry anything out we didn't really expect to find but we showed willing and you don't find feck all sat at home with dogs sat bored in kennels,so we set off and as we checked and walked many places and hedge rows and blanked.Well we had one final place to check and we'd had one out of there a month or so back and yep that was empty as well, but you don't just check the holes you know and i let my old( 12 1/2 years old) plummer bitch work the rest of the hedge row and she squeezed into a tight little place and settled at a m

  3. I don't for one second think you don't already know, the legend is a dog IMO that just wants to graft no matter what. Maybe he (or she) is already sore but needs must and you've got a job to do and this particular animal will go and go regardless. Perhaps it's the old faithful that puts a dig right time after time when others have failed. Perhaps it's the terrier that finds the game when it's given the other the runaround for a few hours and it's dug itself in tight. We've all got our own ideas of what makes the perfect terrier, the best way I could say it is you'll know it when you se

  4. If it was as easy a 2+2 = 4 we'd all have a yard of legends, it's all a gamble, you're just shortening the odds in your favour. I've had the privilege of owning some fantastic terriers over the years, some that outshone their siblings and anything else on the bank. I've found in this line ( the only one I've got experience of ) there's no 100% guarantee that you'll get the best from the best. Perhaps that's a poor way of putting it but without writing a book I'll have to keep it simple. I've had two or three examples in my lifetime where the lesser of the two siblings ended up being t

  7. It’s not until you read posts like the last half dozen or so that you start to think about those terriers you never bred which maybe should of had a chance but all too late now .Good steady digging dogs ain’t mediocre either ,they are what we strive for .Those that supposedly shine ,probably do so for other reasons than digging ie just a good dog to have around ,breed decent stuff but we subconsciously link it all to digging .If it stays to be dug to time after time ,then any dog shines in my book .

  8. When I said average digging dog, I don’t mean it in any bad way, the dog is still being dug regular but his brother outshines him for some reason? You must surely see it in your own dogs? Say you have 2 or 3 digging dogs in your kennels now, I’ll bet you have a favourite but the others are still good at their job, it doesn’t mean you won’t breed from the others does it? Or put it another way, if you and your mate have 2 brothers, yours is the superstar and your mates is JUST a genuine, honest worker, but he is the best dog in your mates kennel, then surely he would use him over a bitch?

He's now affiliated himself with UKIP in a advisory role so he is moving more in that direction of politicising a movement, things aren't going to happen overnight and it has to be much bigger than just one man . I don't see anyone else out there putting the work in like Tommy he's pretty much all there is at the moment. I'm not sure there's better alternative at this point in time?

  12. Lost a bitch 4 seasons ago at 7 year old that should have been bred from, realised it the day I lost her and have been kicking myself ever since. Was one of those terriers you kind of take for granted and went about her business without much fuss, not a superstar by any means but just a good honest reliable terrier that should have been given a chance to pass those traits on. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made from I started out in dogs.

  13. Depends on the ground your working, a big dog will never dig on in some places, and those big dogs are of no use to lads in those areas. day off work ? hardly compares though does it. If your ill you can’t work, especially if it’s a taxing job. We are talking about animals here not machines, if you don’t have them in good health they won’t work hard forever. If my dog was to walk the first thing I would look at is myself, have I missed something that’s a bit off with the dog. If I’m confident that he is fit for the job, I’ll take him out again and keep a close eye on him. If it reoccurs I’d sa

  20. Whippets great, BUT ferreting whippets can feel the damp rain wind if stood for long periods. I’d go collie x greyhound/ whippet or collie lurcher x whippet. Wouldn’t touch a first cross bed x whippet for ferreting personally. or just go small lurcher around 21 inch x another small lurcher that’s proven. BE CAREFULL MOST LURCHERS BREEDERS ARE FULL OF SHIT.

  23. Could be said that to find your best producers you need to breed ,test then breed some more .Once the ingredience are there then it’s time to breed selectively and with a goal in mind .Which brings us back to good mates and trust ,an issue that seems greater than just breeding the right stuff .

I do indeed unstand you R.H and I am positive I come across a one minded dope on here because I can barely understand myself at times if I'm real honest with myself my oldest bitch was bred the way you have stated and I do sure have a favourite but with the little breeding I do I probably only breed from my favourite/best dog and the others will be worked till they can work no more but I wouldn't be breeding so much to give them a look in unless god forbid something happens. I'll just enjoy them and be glad they where put together the right way and do what there bred ta do.

  29. I have a dog there this season he started to hard for his own good his first couple of digs were shaky he was rolling around trying to bully the game making mistakes nearly forcing the shift but he dug a couple and failed a couple and I wasn’t impressed by him I put him in a spot that was maybe to big a test just because I wanted to see what he was about and he showed after 1hr beat up and exhausted I made my mind up in my head he was finished only my digging partner convinced me to try him one more time so I healed him and gave him another go and he used his voice for the first time and has u

  33. Hey Guy’s hope all is well. Was out again today with Mathew , who I met via social media ,he has been in Australia for about 7 years and hadn’t been ferreting in all that time, anyway long story short , Mathew stayed at my place, and in the morning we were out and about with the stinkers , and dogs, we managed to bag a few, Mathew went home with a feed of bunnies and a great day was had. PS video incoming

  34. But do they? Just because a dog is a world beater, never missed a beat type dog, doesn’t mean that he’ll re-produce himself. How many times has it been the case that the superstar from a litter produces bugger all and his brother who’s an honest average digging dog has produced worker after worker?

  38. Your right mate. Problem is if half the folk that keep running dogs have to work in bed they'd rather sleep on the floor. It's the truth unfortunately. That's why they sell they're dogs cause theyre scruffy cxxts that would rather have a night on the beer than keep they're dog.

  39. There in lays the problem mate ... cheap dry food from Aldi will never put muscle on a dog compared to raw meat ... get raw chicken beef lamb down the pup with veg mixed in ... you will see a world of difference in weight and in the future with muscle mass .....
