The reason for lines and names is because they keep producing generation after generation. They don't give themselves a "name", it's earned through word of mouth. Your mates dog by the sound of it is a great terrier, but is he a one off in the lottery of genetics ? I'd sooner follow a line of known producers than a legend amongst shit.8 points

I've just had a sales call from someone with a strong Indian accent. ...... He rings me at work and asks to speak to the manager Me: Why? Injun: Gas and electric. Me: I don't want any. Injun: Are you manager? Me: Am I managing what? Injun: What? Me: What what? Injun: We can save you tirty percent on your current bill. Me: How much do I pay now? Injun: Go to hell bloody b*****d. Charming I tried to call him back but, he's not answering - 0161 408 55568 points

That's a simplistic way of looking at it FD, I know where you're coming from but I don't agree. There's hundreds of terriers that get moved on or pts year on year through bad entering, bad socialisation and so on. If you went with THL massive "cull hard" , PTS, never breed from this and that and so on you'd think the country would be full of top notch terriers............sadly we know it' not. As I've said 2 + 2 doesn't equal 4 in breeding, I'm not kennel blind and I'm not stupid either. The best examples I can give from my one lifetimes experience are these breedings. ......Bust8 points

I've never bred off a jacker but if the rest of the extended family were all solid workers and for whatever reason you lost access to them I'd still take that risk. The same blood runs through the jackers veins as the good one's, perhaps it was poor entering or socialisation that ruined it's chances of becoming all it could be ? I'm just playing devil's advocate mate, I'm old enough and wise enough to have seen plenty of examples of poor entering, and plenty of animals come good given a chance.7 points

a long time ago i had a handy bitch who worked lovely , but she disliked a much handier bitch i owned , so when a hunt teerrrierman asked if he could borrow her , i agreed , unfortunately i didn't know they liked to work terriers in the same earth , i got the bitch back and i could see her back end, legs had tail been chewed, i asked what had gone on and was told a young dog had slipped in behind her got off on his own , or so i was told , i found out years later the wankers had nothing worth keeping and my bitch was always in front so getting chewed both ends, first dig i took her on she w5 points

It's not for me to prove anything to anyone as I,ve said a million times I really don't care what the group of housebound non hunters here think, I,m involved in proving it scientifically with a group of people that have the time, money and experience to get the job done, south hams Munter you may as well talk to the wall as your a sad little blob that had opportunity,s to come and meet me on several occasions but chose to hide behind your keyboard throwing insults, kerny if you start looking outside and stop looking at the mirror you might see some wildlife yourself, rusty I appreciate your5 points

When trump was calling Kim a mentalist those that hate trump were saying he was inviting nuclear war...... Now trump has forced the first step of negotiations people who hate trump are saying he's appeasing a murderous dictator ??? There is no right or wrong, Kim is a mental cnut.... We have trump....support the fcker or not its what we have. And many people want him to fail, at americas and the west's expense just so they can say they are right.... Just like remainers want brexit to fail....they are the same sort of traitorous tw*t. Have an opinion, but but5 points

If the dog not up to job shouldn’t be bred from no matter what blood running through it in my eyes a cur is a cur and should not be allowed to continue its line4 points

The way I see it is why would someone keep a failed terrier, let alone breed from it? To me, the people who would do it are the one's who have been lucky to get hold of the blood and are milking it for what they can regardless.4 points

Goes against the grain for some to even think about breeding from an out and out jacker whatever the blood ties .Would rather travel the length of the country than do that to be honest .Wheres' the confidence in the litter if you use second rate stock .This day and age there isnt' a single reason to breed from jackers if work is the reason for keeping terriers.4 points

The barriers that let you in or out have magnetic sensors that stop the barrier coming down on cars, simply tailgate the car in front of you and it won't cost a penny also works on the Clifton suspension bridge ?3 points

The old air cooled two stroke engines used to sound like the piston was trying to escape and bog down terribly but when it got into the power band you just had to worry about hanging on! And who can forget the smell of Castrol R.3 points

To you, sure. To me also. I haven't seen anything that convinces me but then none of us heckling Greyman is looking that deeply either. I still maintain that its plausible but I've seen nothing that convinces me...3 points

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and good dogs come in a variety of guises but.... a well made dog has less to overcome than its less well made brethren.3 points

Same blood, the genetic makeup is a lottery, hence the bad in litters and the success in one litter over the same way bred litter a second time around. That's why no one's got the answer to a perfect line, it doesn't exist, only in books and THL ?3 points

Maybe so , but maybe if you yourself are not open minded about the subject then your opinion is also flawed. Just for arguments sake here imagine if some cops etc have told him about cover ups then he would be inclined to believe them.3 points

If you had no choice to continue the blood then it's worth a punt, don't get bogged down on the individual animal when the lines a good producing line. If you'r blessed with an extended family then that part of the line should stop right there, life isn't perfect and breeding dogs isn't 2 +2 = 43 points

It is difficult to assess a working dog, simply by glancing at a photograph...indeed, there was once a fashion for having 'on-line' dog shows, whereby folks were encouraged to post images of their jukels and these pictures would then be Judged, by some well -known guy,.and the coveted Red rosette, awarded accordingly..? Having been privileged to handle various types of running dog composites over the years, I have found that nothing beats getting hands-on,..and obviously, the cream on the pudding would always be, to walk out into the hunting field and let your eyes provide the truthful an3 points

How much choosing the welp that's gonna fit in with you his character etc no use having the best looking specimen if yas just don't get on because of either temp or character or other traits one Cana get on with ,I know it's difficult at times but study the dam sire two if possible like invariably get like one side or tother.i have had beauty specimens ta the eye but we did not get on ,maybe count on one hand how many I got to like over time ,spent in the field ,certain traits one can only see when in work ,not looking at the jukel in admiration studying ones physique etc.,I be ieve fa me2 points

I was more aiming it at the original poster tbh mate, he seems to think or be saying that non workers should be bred from despite offering no personal experience from such things. I know sometimes this is necessary, but even as you said earlier, Rip produced over Buster, Mullet produced over Molly etc. but they were still all digging dogs, none were failures, that's all I'm getting at.2 points

What if it's brother or sister isn't available ? What if you know the dog was pushed to much, worked to hard or kept worse than a f***ing ferret ? There's so many variables you could write a book on it, you just remember your own saying "the same yards keep producing"2 points

That is true we didn''t have pb's here till 30 odd years ago,so maybe they could have been developed for hunting. The American style of catching pigs where they run a pack of hounds for hours and let a pit off at the bail is considered a joke by hunters here who might catch 20 odd pigs in the same time with three or four dogs.2 points
