It comes to us all when we keep working dogs and today was my time to say goodbye to an old friend and worker. When I made the transition from being a soldier to starting a business as a pest controller she was my main dog and without her I would never have made it. She was an honest worker who would get up out of the kennel and work seven days a week with never a grumble. She took some serious knocks in her working career and a few i genuinely thought had killed her. I've lost count of the amount of times I stitched her up out on a job and she just got up and carried on working.21 points

It was a hot old day back in June 2006,...a long old trip from Hampshire, to that remote farm in rural Wales. We had come, armed with a brace of ex-racing greyhounds, no world beaters, but steady enough gals. The chosen stud was a flame red, working sheepdog,..calm and confident, a grand example of his type, just as it should be. Big difference in size and height twixt the greyhound and the collie, but we managed the job...eventually... The resulting progeny went all over the UK, but I only ever got to see one at work., and what a good honest worker she was. It is a11 points

Many a man has probably been let down by lads not sticking to their word after they helped them out but the other side of the coin is that the top terriermen of today that won't share anything with anyone wouldn't of got where they are if someone didn't help them to get the foot on the ladder. Just because one d*ckhead let them down doesn't mean the next lad after that won't return the favour or even help them to improve their yard in the future. It all depends on the character of the individual you are asked to trust. In most cases they are probably right to be cagey about it but not always.10 points

I’ve been hunting with the same lads a very long time fd, I trust their judgment and they trust mine if they said a lad was decent that would be good enough for me. In saying that if you haven’t been burned in this game ye haven’t been in it long enough but I won’t let it stop me helping a lad out. On the question of scatter breeding if someone wants to go down that road it’s up to them, all lines have to start somewhere and if it doesn’t work so be it. I’ve never thought I have the goose that laid the golden egg.9 points

Most of the SNP followers are all the alkie c**ts and drug addicts also a fair few on disability. Deluded in thinking if the SNP get independence there benefits are going to double overnight and there will be no more hardship food banks etc. When back in reality they will get hit even harder. SNP have been in power for over a decade they have more power than any other devolved nation and never use it other than to legislate ridiculous policy that benefits no one. It's only introduced to do the opposite direction of the rest of the UK. They have had to shelf and u turn numerous p9 points

If they want to change the culture (and boozing in Scotland is a cultural thing just like Ireland) then they should follow England’s example and import 98 million Muslims ! Things like this are a joke really.......if governments think there is a massive drink problem then they should be asking “why” and you can bet the top answer won’t be the price ! Trouble is, they probably don’t want to admit any real social problems. Bit like the UK with all these fecking payday loan firms, they say there’s a debt problem and they need to crack down......why is there a debt problem?......ca9 points

Back in 2015, Northern Ireland's Ashers Bakery went to court over their refusal to provide a cake with the slogan 'Support Gay Marriage.' They were found guilty of unlawful discrimination. They've since appealed losing one in October 2016 and this new one going to the supreme court might not reach a verdict until next year. Personally, I couldn't give a flying f*ck about the plaintiff's sexuality. I couldn't care even a little bit about the defendants' religious beliefs. It's none of my business. However the day you cannot refuse service in a private business is a very dark day6 points

As above and once it was firmly stated and agreed no pups would be sold on! If they person can't afford the overheads of rearing a litter people without have to charge others then they shouldn't be breeding in the first place - IMO. Works around here......6 points

I don't believe that for one second. Fair enough two terriers from different lines may produce a good litter but that's it IMO. Think of any terrierman you know that has been at it for years and keeps good digging dogs, I'll bet they keep a family line of terriers?6 points

No offence FD but you explained in an earlier post you started with Nuttal lines, then bred off a wheeler dog, only later to breed off Nick Stevens stuff. You sound like you were very careful & thorough testing and culling till you produced the workers you have today. If both terriers are from good lines I fail to see how you differ from what this lad is trying to do....6 points

Red diesel. Latvian Lambert and Butler. French Kronenburg. All these tax hikes didn't eliminate the problem they just enshrined tax avoidance completely by pushing the issue underground. You'll see an initial rise in the tax collected while the populous adjust but then a drop off as they figure out the cheapest way to acquire it. I wouldn't be surprised to see HMRC checkpoints appearing in border towns in the next couple of years, to be honest. Long-term there will be tax rises to offset the revenue that they'll lose to the black market. You can't snoop in other people's lives withou3 points

People can be very quick to call others bullshitters when they mention something they've seen in the hunting field. But those who've done a lot of hunting will have seen things others will say is impossible and will be called bullshitters. As a result it wont get spoken about. But when lads have the balls to mention or write about exceptional hunting feats those who've witnessed similar incidents will know what they mean and such things are possible. BUT, such privileges are usually given to those who spend a hell of a lot of time in the field.3 points

Kay I left school barely able to read and right, I done two terms in borstal before moving on to big jail, I,m not saying that because I,m proud of it, but to show you that the value you put on yourself is more important than the value put on you by other people, I,m hard working and punctual as I can be, I own a van or two and will do anything for a days wages and if I have no work I drive round scavenging in skips for things to sell on eBay or weigh in for scrap, I,m normally busyier than I want to be and earn a reasonable living, the only thing holding you back is yourself because life and3 points

I'm half way through that book and so far it's been excellent. Mr Chapman wrote a series of articles on Banger years back in Earth Dog / Running Dog and although the terrier does sound like a freak you must remember it must have been something else for a devoted Jack Russell man like Eddie Chapman to give praise to another type of terrier. If some of the things Banger done in his work seem far fetched I wouldn't be surprised but I would believe the stories. I've seen terriers do most of the escapades Banger did but I never seen one terrier do them all like Mr Chapman did. JMHO.3 points

people look down on scatter bred terriers and i cant for the life of me understand why it has to start somewhere all the black terriers originate from the same place people chase the lines and the big names rather than proper working terriers there is many a man to scared to go out of the kennels to use a good dog or see others work and ive seen a few men end up with nothing or crap coz of kennel blindness put pride to one side and take your best bitch to the best dog you can source3 points

But would you take someone else' word for it that both the dog and man were decent or would you want to see for yourself .It sort of smacks of scatterbreeding to me unless the bitch was related in which case I'd defo know about it .Lads using this stud this year and matey down the road next year have no vision for the future taking a gamble on a stud just because he works ,not saying its' wrong but not the way I do things .3 points

Sometimes it’s work and needs must ..always difficult at this time of the year ..since the small Shoot shut down on my boundary I’ve not bothered to shoot the foxes in the garden as it seems a bit pointless . Our chicken are behind electric and Charlie can do night shift on the rabbits for me ...I may live to regret it I know .3 points

Look at this handy government pamphlet on your rights regarding giving your notice. It will go into more details but I refer the honourable gentlemen to the comments I made earlier in the thread. But to recap... She cannot decide when you gave notice. It's from the date submitted not the date received. At the latest is starts the day after you hand it in which would be Saturday 28th, not Monday 30th. The amount of notice required will be in your employment contract. You are not entitled to be paid for bank holidays and they can be included in your holiday entitlement. This will b3 points
