Flouted orders not to use the two jars of coconut oil or the bag of pecans in the cupboard. Needs must, it’s f****n life or death out there. Just setting them in the porch before serving for lunch. Eat your heart out Green Lurchers ?13 points

We've been filing up the bird feeder with mixed corn twice a day during this cold spell. Normaĺy every other day. the poor devils are under strain so I am giving something back for the enjoyment that I get throughout the year. Lots of other houses around me have feeders out. Today when I've been outside the sheer rawness of the biting wind has made me feel so sorry for the people out on the street. I know that some of them want to be out there but it must be sheer hell if you have no other alternative. Not everyone out there is a looser or alky. It s good that there s still younger lads coming through , but I watched a few lads out and noticed a few things that made me cringe . Maybe I’m set in my ways to much. First was dog in then box was on instantly. What’s the rush ? If the dogs worth it’s salt it s not going anywhere , give the dog plenty time. Digging on a bank and throwing the spoil down hill. Easier to back fill throwing it up hill. Last was scruffing dogs. It s my pet hate. The dogs worked for let’s say an hour or 2 or more. Then break through , scruff the dog and ram it back in terrier box. My oldest dogs nearly 14 now. We10 points

It's been snowing all night. So the morning goes like this; 8:00 I made a snowman. 8:10 A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman. 8:15 So, I made a snow woman. 8:17 The nanny of the neighbours complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest. 8:20 The gay couple living nearby grumbled that it could have been two snowmen instead. 8:25 The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with. 8:28 I am being called a racist because the snow couple8 points

The feeders have been mobbed this year , blue , great , coal and long tailed tits , gold finches , redpolls chaff and green finch (although not seen as many as other years ), spotted woodpeckers , nut hatches sparrows , dunnocks to name a few . The bird feeders are just out the back of the barn and close to a big hedge , I’d hate to think how many hours get wasted watching the comings and goings ..The spar puts in an occasional visit , it lasts just a few seconds and normally ends in a puff of feathers for some small bird not keeping an eye out ... edited to say the pictures aren’t perfec8 points

I've got hard and steady terriers, I live in hope that the hard learn their lesson and begin to speak. They've all got their uses, on a personal level I don't like to dig to a mute terrier, I don't feel like I enjoy it at all. You feel obliged to rush because of the damage they can take, and it just doesn't feel right without a terrier singing away, like somethings missing.8 points

I have always taken the time to listen /learn when on someone else ground... from old heads and new starters.... You soon get an idea if they are worthy of your company again or the sort of circles you want to move in?everyday is a school day as they say?seen plenty that's shocked me over the years.... But learnt a hell of alot more by keeping it buttoned and gleaning knowledge from the good ones. You find some folk are not in any rush because they have confidence in what they have, and it shows in the way their dogs work.6 points

I've always maintained the hardest part of any dig is the break through that's when the terrier has to be 100% up to scratch or else your digging another hole.I have seen it many times with terriers that have not that extra gear all the digging in vain for t the quarry to push by and away especially with educated quarry. Lads from different areas have come on my permission only to see their top dog lose or even worse come away and then they will say that never happened before reason being their dog was never on quarry that knows the score and when push came to shove the quarry won the day. They are out there might not be everyone cup of tea but aslong as they do the job who cares. Some lads like to hear their dog working but it doesn't bother me either way once they stay.I'd rather have a mute hard dog than a yapper that will move with quarry everytime the pressure comes on IMO that only educates them more and ruins a good earth in the process. Same applies to stupid hard dogs that will do maybe half an hour flat out then come out like something from a horror movie not what i want in a terrier.5 points

Best type in my opinion is the 'Game' Sounder/Mixer, a dog that will sound/mix it but when the occasion arises, up the gears to match the hardest of terriers...5 points

And he did! I had a call out for work last night and spotted this chap crossing a field on his way up to the moor with his supper, which was someones fowl. It was about 1.30am. I phoned the keeper, he picked up straight away and I told him where this fox was dining out. Twenty minutes later he caught up with me to say he’d shoot this dog fox while it was eating it’s meal. What a good do ?5 points

Not that i claim to know a lot but no one has ever taught me how to do it,iv'e only ever dug with close pals as such and i'd say most of the time i known more than them.Still learning on every dig i am and the closest iv'e ever got to any "named" terrier men is through having a dog from there stuff or chatting to them on line.COMMON SENSE pretty much covers most of the other things so personaly it wouldn't influence my terrier world if they all dropped dead as i couldn't tell you who the "main men" in Norfolk are anyway ...5 points

Ok lads i was brought up in this built up area with a dene and burn running between 2 estates .it was my play ground where i spent every spare minute nesting and being a typical lad making dams etc at the moment its fell into disrepair with plastic bottles (bongs) fridges bags of clothing etc dumped on a regular basis .me and a couple of lads have offered to tidy the place up free of charge in our own time but have been told any rubbish we accumalate will be classed as fly tipping! We are going to go ahead regardless and hopefully they see common sense .if they dont then local papers4 points

I only have little baying types because that's the type I want to keep. But let's be truthful if you have game in a stop end that doesn't want to be dug a bayer isn't gonna hold him. It's down to the man to have the type of dog that suits his type of work In my opinion.4 points

Not really, apart from little bits of advice and being told to leave off your youngsters what can you learn unless you're out there doing it. I'll happily give advice to anyone that asks, the trouble with most young lads is they already think they know it all...........no different than I used to be4 points

Yes and mainly no to many young guns only interested in the harder sort that take stick so they can show it on Facebook I think one old hand is worth ten of today's fb warriors in how to truely work a terrier that said I do know of a couple of young lads that are doing the job proud4 points

Should be common sense but like you say FD, that ain't so common. A bit extra food and bedding than what they normally get will help them too.3 points

Blue tits and great tits seem to mistake the camera for a nest box and the lense as the entrance so expect a few more at this time of year, first time I,ve stumbled on this thread, I still don't have a way of uploading pics without taking a photo of my old laptop screen but here,s a nice little Roebuck I got a few days back, I,ve also found what appears to be a feral cat living in a sett with a fox, which is pretty cool, need to study the images a bit more but they both seem to go in and out the same one hole and though I have 5 cameras in the same area the cat only ever appears on the one by3 points

The poor fuckers are starving, a robin came and took food of my hand twice yesterday evening. This lad comes and says hello every morning, always fly's up to the window in whatever room we're in. Any idea why he does that?3 points

Show me proof not conspiracy theories. Plenty proof showing what did happen. Tbh it's been discussed loads of times on here and the conspiracy theorists never come up with anything credible. Also I don't actually think some people realise how demolition work's or the time preparation etc involved. I'm no expert either but I do know it would take more than 6months work and miles of detonation cord building stripped columns burnt through etc etc etc. Not only huge number of time and materials but a huge work force. You think that can be kept quiet f**k it would be lea3 points

With the very low temperatures, and the snow covering everything, I reckon these feeders are the difference between life and death for a lot of the birds in my garden right now. And I’m sure that even some of them will perish. I’ve kept everything topped up and yesterday put an extra tray covered in nuts and crushed fat balls out for the wee birds that get pushed of the feeders and table first. Had loads of birds coming in and feeders have been getting absolutely smashed, and I’m out of nuts now and low on everything else. So I’m going to have to get a bit creative today I think.3 points

We make our cooking fat into fat candles for the birds........they love them, especially in the cold. We haven't had a lot of snow, but the wind chill is unbelievable, so we have full feeders and a couple of big handfuls on the ground every day. And if it attracts rats, there's something else to shoot at !3 points

I've four feeder's and a table and seed and other bits for the ground feedeers I'm in an out all day topping them up sparrows and finches and all sort's coming from everywhere.3 points

Answer me this if letting a terrier that can go in and hold educated quarry without baying and taking little punishment till dug too. How should that be labeled ??? A blight but no need to blacken the good ones cause a the tools who do such thing3 points
