  8. Nothing much beats, a big old whippet or a racy Beddie /Whippet, on top of a warren,...they are quicksilver fast... But,..being a lover of all the various herding breeds,... I do like a sensible Collie x Greyhound ... Mind you,..it has got to be easily schooled and pleasant to live with,...or such a hybrid can be a fecking nightmare...

  11. Very true. Sometimes their character is almost a contradiction of itself, combining extreme sensativity with strong drive. Easy to feck up but good if you get it right. When they're like that they're no good for a short tempered or impatient person but do well with encouragement when they get it right. I like them myself and I've had some over the years that would take almost anything.. The brindle bitch in the photo was one.

  13. Haha number of holes has no correlation with numbers in the area. Ive seen 5 emerge from a tiny 1 holer only several feet of tube. Yet theres plenty of extensive setts with many active holes that only have 1 in it. No hard and fast rule imo and ive never understood how they can be confident on there population estimates when the population varies so drastically from area to area.

It would be of great interest to find any particular people who fly such a bird in the modern day environment of today, however, I don't think the modern day environment suits such birds, and i'll commit myself to say in that it takes somewhat different a person to do a bird such justice. However , I may be wrong, but i'm not one for the new applied methods and the often new contraptions provided to falconers of today. I am talking of the perhaps my most favoured of the Shortwings: namely the very, somewhat difficult Sparrow hawk. The history of such birds happened many years ago now, wh

  17. We have a 30s thats downtuned to 5.5 fpe. We never intended to use it as a long range rifle. So I shortened a maccari spring and made tight fitting guides for the rifle. Its the rifle my wife uses for shooting matchsticks and splitting cards at 15 meters. The rifle has a bullbarrel, and I added a piece at the end of the stock, per my wifes request (see picture). But you know how women are..... she now wants to take this rifle to the range and shoot it at 50 meters (55y). So I ordered tinbum guides and a stock 30s spring at a gunshop. I hope to gain 2 fpe and still have that docile shotcyc

  18. Had another very enjoyable day out with the dogs, and ferrets What’s new right? ? I hadn’t been to this property for a few months; last time I was here, there were a lot of kits, so I left them until now. It was a reasonably successful day, and good to see a few fox’s about, don’t normally see many in the day time here, will be spotlighting here over the next month that’s for sure. Next few days here will be over 35 degrees Celsius, at least the dogs will get a well earned rest to freshen them up, they are feeling the pinch a bit, after a heavy couple of weeks. Hope you enjoy the vi

  27. Hi GT, I`ve always been a strong believer in " Accuracy trumps power" period ! I practice on paper a lot and will practice on walks also - I`ll go through a tin a week practicing in the summer months, easily, but I always practice at what I consider air rifle ranges, - never beyond . The greatest test in air gun hunting is concealment and getting within range, as said, a lot of people think more power will dispense this burden, it most certainly does not. Greater the power x greater the distance = greater the demand on skills

  32. The last thing you should be doing is shooting any type of game till your confident you know your rifle and your happy you can safely kill your target at what ever range you pull the trigger , but there's nothing stopping you from going out and shooting targets , scots pine cones etc in fact any thing your happy pinging away at and all different sizes the better after a few outings you will have a better understanding of what you and your airgun can do . I don't know if the guy has any experience of a normal air gun before getting a fac rated gun as i believe doing the apprenticeship wo

  33. Quote:- I`ve always been a strong believer in " Accuracy trumps power" period ! I really don't understand why you keep saying this Mark me ole duks, nobody on here or any other forum says otherwise. It is however a great advantage to have both which is what you get with FAC. As I have said before, you should come out with me and use the FAC, then you can form an opinion based on fact and experience of actually using one to know what they are capable of doing. Phil

  34. I'm at risk of maybe repeating what the lads have said here because it is sound, positive advice. But, I've been shooting an FAC rated HW80 .22 that's been superbly set-up, very happily for nigh on 20 years now. And the only really useful, practical lesson it has taught me is this. USE THE EXTRA FAC POWER TO COVER SENSIBLE AIR RIFLE HUNTING RANGE DISTANCES FASTER THAN A SUB-12 FT/LBS RIFLE CAN! Use the extra power in the pellet to hit your rabbit faster than sub 12 at the same distances. It amazes me the number of posts about folk wanting to go to FAC power and the questions are alwa

  37. the problem with trying to improve what you have is every thing you add can move things to much, then you add something else to correct it, and your further away from your goal, the top quality coursing blood we have today has decades of best to best breeding, the quality shines through time and time again, because there is so much depth to it, having said all that I am sure it will improve your type of dog atb.

  38. Download chairgun and it will work it out for you. You need roughly 3ftlb to the brain to kill a rabbit humanely but just to confuse matters, that means my BSA R10 will drop a rabbit at 116 yards with 11.5ftlb at the muzzle yet that's a shot I would never even consider taking. Even if it's on FAC, I wouldn't pay too much attention to maximum distance kill shots as they appear great on paper but in practice there are too many variables such as wind etc to send the pellet off course and risking wounded quarry?

  40. The badger protection people will have done far more damage to the badger than dog lads ever could, poor old Brock's days are numbered, control of the badger population is one thing wiping them out should be unexseptable to any right minded person, this is being driven by greedy farmers who want to keep ten times the amount of cattle on the same acreage has their father's who would of been happy with. I wonder what they will blame when Brock's gone.

He had it advertised as a 'Sandwell 77'. I must admit I was a bit dubious because the edge of the sticker looked like it had been picked at. It was very smooth and quiet to cock and, the shot cycle is quick but easily manageable. It's a little scruffy all round but, nothing that can't be sorted. The open sights are missing - I'd like to get those back on there eventually. The
