Went fishing this morning with my mate. Arrived at the river to spot a ewe and twin lambs marooned on a small island. The river is tidal and the sheep would eventually be washed off the island into the icy water. We decided to fetch our boat which was 12 miles away. Got back to the river car park hoping to borrow a jeep with a tow bar or a tractor. The tractors were all out being used and there were no jeeps in the car park. We therefore had to push and pull the boat about a 1/3 of a mile to the rivers edge. Not easy for two old geezers in their 70s. The upshot was we launched the bo18 points

Yes but only on command. She'll sit under a high seat and watch deer for hours but if we are tracking a wounded one and it gets up in front of us I can ask her to pull it. The indicating is the best bit though, we can stalk through woods into the wind and she will scent deer and take me to them. She's pretty special, not the bravest or hardest dog but she seems to just know what im thinking. She's coming up to 12 now though and pretty much retired, I doubt I will have the same bond with another13 points

?Anything that improves the lot, of the Pedigree Scottish Deerhound, has got to be a plus factor. Whatever the motives, the end result is what really matters... As for working these beautiful canines, in todays difficult situation,.. well, that is entirely another matter altogether? Many years ago, I ceased wandering around the countryside, with such an obvious lethal tool, at my side,...the animals were truly beautiful and could handle, that job,.. but, they just stood out like a sore thumb,.. and the " Just taking the dog for a wee walk Gov" excuse, sounded sillier and sillie4 points

Am I missing something here? Why would you need a marker when all you do is drill straight through your work and fix? Giving you a bit of advice, all your local window companies use these fixings and will sell them to you for next to nowt. They come in 60/90/100/120mm. Saves you going to Wickes and buying 100 of something that you don’t need. Only my opinion. Jok.3 points

Another true tale, which has a chapter in one of Darcy's books. Me, LDR and another lad were out for daytime roe. We each had a walkie talky, and we dropped our pal outside a copse that usually held roe with my old Doberman, and we went to the other side and positioned ourselves with the lurchers. I radioed the lad to slip the Doberman, and sure enough, she pushed out two roe, one of which broke in front of LDR and Bruce. Next thing, the radios going " Bruce has pulled in the farm yard, meet you back at the motor". Then there was a crackling of the radio and a disembod3 points

No just saying in general. If you said to most folk my dog retrieves roe deer they’d think you were talking crap. Then pulling out a photo, there’s no arguing with that! I’ve got to admit I was a bit skeptical, I’ve had but dogs drag them and sort of walk with part in their mouth, pulling them along, but never a dog picking one up broadside like a shot rabbit. Ive seen some unusual and cool things out hunting but rarely manage to get a decent photo !2 points

Good one. My mate had a jill he used to let out every afternoon and it would walk the 1acre boundary fence then get back in it's cage. I don't think I'd be that lucky. I did have an old hob that would do a warren, or blackberry patch thoroughly and get back in his carry box, I had to put him down at 9 due to cancer, I miss "Grim".2 points

Never really been in to knife making but like to look at a nice hunting knife or two??A lot of knives are expensive to buy I appreciate the time an work that’s gone in to making them but could never justify paying the prices to be stopped by the old bill and have a decent working man’s knife taken from me or loose it while out hunting I’ve lost a few half decent knives in my time I tend to rock the good old openal there cheap and do the job. This knife I made from a large disc cutter disc I found at work the brass pins on the handle are from a caravan hook up plug an the handle is made from a2 points
