John's achievements in both his personal and professional life were considerable and he was very well respected within the legal profession. Yet first and foremost he was always a terrier man both at heart and in practice. He was a true “Son of The North”. John did honourable service as a member of the Fell & Moorland W.T.C. and then went on along with others, to form the well respected and highly successful Durham & Northumberland W.T.C. He and his late wife Esme formed the backbone of that Club in an area where fools are not suffered gladly. He was a lifelong terrier enthusiast14 points

That's the point fellah,...you don't mess about with the ferrets, and we don't run the big land, with purpose bred coursing dogs,.but, we all have a voice on the Hunting Life....11 points

Well, I say Buck, my 1x gsd xgrey. I did have a lurcherx lurcher bitch in the 80s, who catch hares in the day and few foxes and rabbits in the lamp, she got injured at 4 year old, and put her down, shame nice bitch. Bryn my 1x coolie x grey my best ferret dog I've ever had, good in the lamp on rabbits, but only a rabbit dog really. Now big Buck been good on rabbits, better than old Bryn, Buck will take other quarry if need be, was fast for his size, good stamina, not a day time hare dog, but as most of my hunting was lamping anyway, that suited me, but he great in woods in the day, finding the9 points

Back 35 odd years ago, I brought a 8 month old small pure bred whippet dog ,grey in color ,with wee ears that grew no hair due to a what we term here, a hall fost when he was a pup .The owner ,a rabbitter had sadly passed & his friend was tidying up all the loose ends ,so the wee dog had to be rehomed .He had been, at that point, very lightly started over ferrets I was told.I paid the asking price of $400 nz or about 200 BPs on the condistion that If the dog didnt suit I could bring him back at any stage .I re started him at about 14 months & over the next 3 years he acounted for load8 points

Went out a 4.30 , and got set up behind the bailes , the silage was to long really 9/12 inches high, and the decoys were bearly visible, but managed to pull these in , finished with 41 , for 2/12 hours then it went dead Atb6 points

Wasn't actually mine, but I had him in my kennel a few times when his owner, my pal, was between wives, houses, whatever, and I worked my dog alongside him for a few years; Bruce the Rescue Dog; Cheers.6 points

I’ll start. My father got this bitch off a traveller when she was around 1 year old I was about 12/13 at the time we never fully knew what was in her just told it was beddy whippet with a bitta Greyhound but my god she was some dog for rabbits day and night definitely the best dog I’ve ever owned to catch a rabbit be it a straight course across an open field, down rough terrain or in woodland she always seemed to make a catch. She took good few hares too on the lamp and took a few in the day too but I wasn’t interested in daytime hares and where I am in Ireland the fields are all small to5 points

One of my top 3 fish to eat if you know how to cook em delicate but far from bland , matey who owns boat takes only way he can sell from his beach hut to locals who queue up as soon as he is on his way in no export no mass netting to order no ice needed hes pro brexit and can’t rely on cod no more after watching them eu trawlers yr after yr decimate the stocks one of my fave fishes to eat he catches is the flounder again not everyone’s tastiest fish to eat but I love em and cheap at £1 a fish ? grill fish over coals is my fave way to eat fish not everyone’s cuppa ?5 points

Beddy/bull/grey bitch...best all-rounder I've owned, came to me at 18 months old after a friend went over the wall.a dog that just seemed to make things happen and catch where ever we went, worked with terriers,on the lamp, around the nets and with the hawks..had to be something else in there because she had some tank, showed up plenty in her time, had some good times up and down the UK , especially Scotland...would love another like her?5 points

Don’t tell me the two runs are on hares on big land on your ground so you can prove you’re purpose bred coursing dog is the bestest ever ? you remind me of the lads who take race bred dog round all of the Lurcher shows winning the racing against all of the collie greys, bull greys etc ?4 points

? I missed the foolishly made, but obviously intended insult ? However,..I am not ashamed to be called, a 'rabbiting man'.....in fact, considering my financial status now, as opposed to my totally skint and poverty stricken,...'arse hanging out ' situation, when I first started out,...I regard the jealous, spurious wording,... as something of a compliment?4 points

"Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?" That line ,credited to a rather notorious Actress of the Classic Hollywood era , can still raise a smile today . Though the firearm aspect of the quote has generally been replaced by a less subtle reference to a banana . Yesterday l set forth into the woods with not a gun ,or a banana , but a fishing rod in my pocket . A little forest ghyll that is for the most only a few inches deep and a couple of feet wide had been dammed many years ago to provide a local water supply . I had no idea if it even held any f4 points

Yes, I would only echo your words Toolbox? Rightly or wrongly,.. "Lurchers have been my Life"....without the help and influence of my working pals,..I would still be a cast-iron loser....My lack of formal schooling and my own quirky temperament, insured that I was going nowhere in life,...fast? My strong connection to lurchers and the kudos a wee bit of amateur scribbling produced, opened so many previously shut doors and enabled me to become, a rural Pest Controller.. For this,.. I thank them..? Best dog ever? Well, to be truthful, I've never owned a world beater, o3 points

Not a very good picture of him ( Top Left ) Spring We call them Staghounds - Scottish Deerhound x Greyhound ( had a touch of bull as well ) 27 tts an absolute mental case with speed and stamina to burn Killed anything you wanted him too and was stock safe3 points

Taking 60 daytime rabbits in a single day makes him one special dog imo, a rabbit is a damn sight harder to catch in daylight compared to moonlight3 points

It’s no big secret, all the people in Westminster are just not very good.....simple. These people aren’t the greatest minds Britain has to offer, they are your 14 year olds head of year done a bit better for themselves.....that’s it. Given that is what they are, what’s the danger in just voting for anyone else but them ?......I can’t see any, let’s face it, they can’t be any more inept or morally bankrupt !3 points
