  2. people define game in different ways. I call it driven. a game little rabbit dog, one with plenty of drive will work nettles, brambles, gorse, etc. when right on it's rabbit heading for cover it won't apply the brakes yards from the hedge. it hits cover to make a catch.

  5. Bull fighting is great ! But not as much fun as throwing a goat out of a church tower ! Or seeing how many people you can get on the back of a donkey before it collapses and dies under the weight ! All great fun for a Sunday morning with the family before going for a pint ! Well, it is for some Spanish. Cheers.

  6. I completely agree with this sentiment on many levels. The number of times on here (and before the internet when reading Countryman's Weekly and Shooting News letters pages) when similar questions came up. Somebody has a dog of a type not like the "normal" lurcher e.g. very small whirrier type or heavily base blood orientated and everybody says, "mate it to a pure greyhound (or a 28" 1/4 bull 3/4 greyhoundx saluki)." Then lo and behold the owners says that the next generation is faster but, "there's a certain something missing." I'm not saying it doesn't give you what you want in 99% of cases

  10. I do get a bit frustrated people slagging whippets off that don’t own or work them or even worse having a pop at them because they can’t kill and retrieve a red stag ?. They are only good for rabbits....yes exactly. Whilst I have no issue people hunting what they like rabbits are the only legal quarry we can run in this country and some people (like myself) just really enjoy running the humble rabbit and want a dog suited to rabbit work. I have owned many lurchers (big and small) and currently have a large ped x non ped male whippet and for rabbits he is spot on as good any of the lurchers. Ma

  19. I have a dog he's 11 now straight out of "strikewhiletheironshot"........absolute warrior never knows whens he's beat, ive had quite a few whippets and never had one with the stamina this lad has had in his life. He's had all quary and i mean all......he is as hard as nails, he's a proper mans dog and loves to be around people , so yes i can defiantly vouch for Mike Brown's strain of whippet.....?

  23. Cold, wet and windy here, has been for weeks. But spring is only weeks away now. Going to knock together a couple of nest boxes tomorrow, it’ll soon be that time again. As for all the nonsense on here, and especially the covid. I’ve been trying to avoid it, too much negativity from the usual suspects. I just reckon some are born to sit on the sidelines criticising all and sundry, and some just get on with the business in hand. The moaners have the loudest voice, cos that’s all they fcukin do, the others go quietly about making shit better. Brighter days are just around the corner, of that

I'm still at it but no dog I haven't seen a bed since 2019 it's the couch for me and sometimes in the middle of the night I roll off the f****r get dressed and off out I go a 14 mile round trip to one of my favourite spots never been pulled and never meet anybody I take the risk but it's well worth it to see enough bunnies to keep me happy should the day ever come when I can get back out doing what I love I live in hope now I've come to far in life to give up

  27. I've owned and ran ped and non-ped whippets and have a soft spot for them. But, and this is just MY opinion, non-peds usually aren't over matched by hare or roe, but peds are. Of course, there will be exceptions, but I've never seen a ped whippet take hare regularly. It's horses for courses, or hounds for grounds, I wouldn't bring in a ped whippet if hare coursing was my game, just as I wouldn't bring in a pure Saluki if ferreting or lamping rabbits was my game. If you want a dog for mooching around, ferreting or lamping, then a ped whippet will be fine, but if you also wa

  29. A few years ago, I was working in an office on the 8th floor and a chap opposite the office building had an aviary on his roof terrace. Must have had around 20-30 pigeons (no idea what type). He used to fly them out everyday. Nice thing to watch when you're stuck in an office, in the middle of a city, watching a flock of pigeons racing around in formation

  31. I still think they are the gamest breed of running dog considering their size and build. There might be some but I've never seen one example that lacked courage, most have too much for their own good.

  32. Whippets are underrated it kills me when you see threads on here people asking for a small ferreting/mooching/ lamping dog everyone avoids saying whippet they giving it the thin skin, cowardly, nervous shivering skinny cut talk always say is what you want is a beddy whippet ive been round quite a few working whippets I come in to the game with them been around them pretty regularly up until 6-7yrs ago same as the beddy whippets they’ve always been there as well if I wanted a small running dog I’d have a male working whippet
