, watching the effects of the fire on the wildlife and the people in the surrounding areas, complete devastation for all concerned, mainly the gamekeepers with there grouse population struggling for yea irs, and the livestock losses for farmers, dread to think of the rabbits, hares and wild birds that have perished over the last few days, I take my hat off to the fireman, army, gamekeepers and farmers who are doing their damndest to control what has to be one massive devastation on the moors for years, only hope ,is for some rain to come to dampen things down, Australia and the states would pr5 points

Been a funny day! After work collected my ugartachea sidelock ejector from a dealer. He had it to sell but it didn't so I got it back. It's always been difficult to shoot as it's way to tight choked. .729" bores with .685" and .700" constrictions. I set about them with a reamer and now they are .695" & .705". Still tight but within a normal range for the bores. Any way I was keen to try it so squeezed into my cartridge belt and also included two hullmax 34g #4. I love #4 shot for fox's. Well as soon as I got up the hill a pheasant was spreading the word! Sure enoug4 points

I went to help a former neighbour out last night with some foxes that have been trying to get into his garden to kill his fancy ducks. He had been baiting them to a spot for a good few nights and i had monitored them on a trail cam. Anyway i was out of the house forty minutes and the job had been done, two vixens.4 points

I still walk some places under a full moon without a lamp because of nosey neighbours ?it's surprising just how much gear you do bump in to just under a moon and how much you can see that would normally be gone when lamped4 points

A lad I know has sheep up there just down from the moor, he said the first fire has been blamed on a discarded cigarette, if this isn’t an advert for the full game management of moorland I don’t know what is, there needs to be controlled burning to create fire barriers, so if some little dickhead decides to have a fire it’s easier to control and hopefully will not go on to devastate a massive part of the moor4 points

All though i have had some great shots with the FX Impact .25 FAC on rabbits , crows , pigeons , squirrels and targets , at 120 yards grouping with 16 pellets ,which is one mag came in at 26 mm . But i seem to go back to sub 12 , just cant give it up . Sub 12 is so much quieter and on some permissions i would not use FAC air , not only that its where it all began for me from the age of 13 some 45 years ago shooting a BSA meteor .22 and still have that gun today . Any how waited for darkness last night ,which seems to take ages with clear skies and very bright moon and that was abou3 points

The two winter hill fires have now joined and its been declared a state of emergency. To be honest there is not much to be damaged there it's just blow grass, no grouse moor. A friend's house backs onto the Moor and its at risk, also the pheasant shoot at Belmont but as yet I think the wind is in the opposite direction. Its so big though its changing by the minute. Smithills Moor is at risk, if not burning....but it's been bought by an anti hunt group so feck it. I used to keeper the neighbouring Moor and its sickening to see years off work go up it smoke. I'm glad I don't have tha3 points

Honestly king, I really am not one for the lamp. But when I used to go regularly, I could tell what was in front of me by the way the dog was behaving, before I turned the lamp on3 points
