Remember the large British birds eggs exhibit in Clifton park museum in Rotherham that had every British birds egg in the collection that was in two long tables in glass covered sections and me and i few mates from school going in with a glass cutter to steal the golden eagles egg on view my mate was making an impression on the glass when the caretaker who had watched us as we went in and must have thought we were up to some thing came and tried to make a grab for us as we legged it . I have recently heard the museum still has this collection but it's not on public view but you can make an app12 points

One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. ray ive had some shit times mate this poem always picked me up when i was down, Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really tr6 points

So sorry to hear that Ray, you come across as a really good lad and it’s horrible when sad things happen to nice people. Day by day mate, keep your chin up and stay connected as I think most lads here would want to see you are ok6 points

I’ve had the pleasure of timing and handicapping the fastest dogs in the world over the sprint distance………and they weren’t Salukis ! What my protege doesn’t seem to understand is that nobody is disagreeing that the purpose bred saluki hybrid is the best daytime hare coursing dog, but they are not the best at everything ! I’ve seen non-ped whippets murder coursing bred dogs on the first couple of hares, but that’s it, the coursing bred will go on to run more and the non- ped will be finished; they aren’t bred to be stayers, as I’ve said , ad infinitum, they are bred with the sole purp5 points

Like probably most on here I collected eggs as a lad. Taking a couple of eggs from a nest, but leaving some behind, seemed pretty harmless. Of course if there were a gang of you out hunting, the nest might get emptied.., we’d call that ‘herrying’.., a term I’d never heard of before or since. The mission, as I remember, was to get an egg from as many species of bird as possible, the rarer the better…, a bit like filling a Panini football sticker album, where you’d want to fill in the ‘blanks’, and players like Dalglish, Francis etc. were the treasure. Don’t get keeping clutch after clutch5 points

No, I knew instantly that you got your maths the wrong way round. It was 50 years ago when I was handicapping and whippets and greyhounds have got faster in that time, so if I was to do it now, I’d handicap at 17 yards per second rather than 16 yards per second as I used to. Now you can get on with the homework I sent you and also write 100 times “ I must not contradict on something I know nothing about” ! Cheers.3 points

They are timed and handicapped over the distance they run ! There are fast starters and fast finishers, slow starters and slow finishers ,it averages 16 yards per second. We’ve been through all this before. You take the time your scratch dog, (the fastest), does then the slower dog gets 1 yard start for every 6/100 hundreds of a second slower it is, which equates to 16 yards per second If the fastest whippet does 8 seconds for 150 yards and a slower one does 9 seconds it gets 16 yards start. If the fastest greyhound does 27 seconds for 480 yards and a slower one does 28 seco3 points

An old lamping partner of mine from over 25 years ago, well his old lamping partner. Packed in the dog game and got into the egg collecting. Apparently he had all sorts of missions and adventures and escapades chasing the eggs, from rock climbing and abbsailing in the dark down to nests being watched by the army ect. He was apparently a member of some secret club called The Gordanian Society I was led to believe. I found it all quite enthralling as a young tearaway myself.3 points

At this point we can have a “ what have we learned “ moment mc can’t have learned that Coursing is a contest between dogs. Bred for speed it was classed as a sport. Hence the quote “ truest of sportsman dosnt take his dogs out to kill the hare but for the contest between dogs and is happy to see the hare get home “ Non peds fastest dog bar none Ped whippet beat a saluki over 100 yrds , Saluki x ultimate hare stopping purpose bred dog , mc acmed Is a lamper and has been converted to the camel shaggers clan wears robes with welllies while eating Halal kfc. Xx oh I’m off fishin3 points

Hello chid been a few years I don’t get on here from one year to the next , but popped on yesterday tried to leave a reply. Rio was a half brother to Remus same sire (bull) he was a good all rounder but no good with stock of any kind. Remus and Rio were bred and owned by HBG , Both dogs were kept and brought on by HBG who eventually chose Remus over Rio which is how Rio ended up down here. (Rios now dead) I was impressed by Rio, but heard Remus was the better dog . Remus was bred to Rio’s litter sister half brother half sister mating I had to have one I had a b3 points

It sounds more like a biblical Christian crusades blood in blood out Cabal the likes of which @DIDO.1 upon hearing in conversation nods sagely and quotes the first rule of fight club. I wasn’t in the UK 25 years back, nor have I ever heard of the group,I wonder if anyone else on here has?2 points
