  2. I grew up on quite a notorious council estate left school with nothing, went on to do several terms in Borstal and jail, but I can’t stand my parents and wanted everything different for my own kids, my eldest is a Batchelor of science, head of science and vice principle by the age of 30 younger daughter was manager of 5 dental practices until she had kids and my son is doing well in the construction industry, but more important none of them have had to see or do the shit I went through in life, it’s up to everyone of us to break the mould and strive for more, but it’s usually just easier to be

Went out ferreting with some pals and my grandson this morning, finished with 8 good healthy rabbits, no bolters at all out of them we had to dig out every one, luckily it was pretty soft digs so not too bad, most of the place was soaked but hopefully start to drain off and get a few more days before season ends

  6. True words,...same as them poor old Dinasaurs,..adapt, accept change,... or become extinct.... However,.moving forwards and changing your lifestyle, doesn't always have to be a bad thing.... Still love the dogs, and really enjoy seeing my mates jukels, but the passion for the hunt has diminished.

  8. TBH I enjoy watching game in its natural environment as much as I do chasing it these days, which I never thought I would I would say Seeing game hanging does not have the same appeal to me these days as it did even 10 year ago, although the adrenaline rush of the chase never wears thin, especially deer.

I’m at the stage now I don’t have any real interest in catching numbers, I’ve never been one of the types that places numbers above all else but these days especially I’d rather catch 1 or 2 where the odds were stacked in the quarry’s favour so you know the dogs really had to do well to catch it

  10. “Laughing stock of the world” ? Not in my experience. I’ve travelled a fair bit; lived with , worked with and spent considerable time with many diverse nationalities, and their view of the British ranged from open admiration to grudging respect. Even in the Middle East, where they, probably have more reason to hate us than most, I found it was only the extremists that hated us, and not so much Britain, but the west in general. Being British still has kudos and opens doors in most of the world. The people I’ve met who actually hate Britain are usually British themselves a

And good luck to them all though I dread to think if I had the same hunger for the hunt and chase I had 30 years ago especially with roe deer now being seen on my doorstep even seeing them now makes my heart skip a beat and my old head puts my thoughts of getting another lurcher and having a bash at them to the back of my mind.

  30. It is a class thing in a way though, I have a REALLY good example but it would take a while to type the story. Average kid on a council estate is almost indoctrinated through surroundings, family, friends in their formative years, get a trade, get a house council/bought, settle down etc Upper middle classes, uni, CAREER (not a job a CAREER) or business and the affluent lifestyle associated with such. Most council estate kids are on the 9-5 wage slave treadmill from beginning to end, I know lots, one holiday a year to Spain and that's their lifestyle. I have met a few agricult
