  1. Sorting through my mums house we came across pictures of my first lurcher, 1979 so I gave the pup an of the era name "toyah" ?. We had terriers and ferrets but this bitch was a game changer for mooching. Lurcher to lurcher cross, she was a dream to work although in part I put that down to the time one can devote at 17 when the world is yet to discover current electronic distraction. She was insanely committed to catching game, near miss accidents were frequent and sadly a tree collision was her undoing. Despite the look of her white beard she didn't make 3 years. Ever since i am not a fan of d

  2. Well she got to grab a rabbit. Heard a thump and a rustle in thick old hedge. Pup started casting about and wanted to go through the fence. Unknown to me there was bloody fox next door. I could see a one holer tucked away so had a hunch. She wanted to go after the fox so tied her up then cheeky sod walked through to our side and walked across field. She was focused on him so didn’t see the rabbit balled up in the hedge but at least she got a bit of fur in her chops so it will all come together Actually got two out the one hole. Just netted the run as couldn’t get it over the hole. You ca

  3. Good mooch about with the pup today tire the little bugger out. All ways take the ferret in case I get a mark. Be nice to get netted rabbit for her to grab. Tough going this way though even an adult would struggle. Makes it all the better when it does happen though. Flushed few pheasant chased a squirrel all good fun. Bumped into a chap with a terrier today too. Not sure which one of us was most surprised ? Nice to meet you hope you got what you wanted. Bloody great to see some one out there doing there thing.

  5. They call him a farmer but think he runs or ran a hedge fund business. Typical of people make their money in the city then buy up the country side and try to exclude every body. Cheers Arry

  9. I was having my breakfast on Thursday morning when i got a message through on WhatsApp. It was a video of a fox in a big garden and I recognised where it was. It was quickly followed by another message explaining that the fox had killed one of his chickens and could i go and have a look for it. This is at the home of the chap that owns three farms not too far away from me that I shoot foxes on regularly. I said I would go at night to have a look. It didn’t rain that night so I got my gear together and rang him to say I would be 20 minutes. I asked if there was anywhere in the garden that I cou

  11. Sounds as far fetched as folks needing 4/5 jabs to stay alive from something, but still able to catch it multiple times??? how many times did you catch TB/polio etc after your jabs for that? ?? imagine your dog needed to go back and get jabbed for Parvovirus every couple of months ??? would you be stupid enough to keep going back??? Or would you think, hold on here a minute???

  14. Seen that Joe but it has got out of hand with big family tents and big groups trashing the place and groups of camper vans in car parks. Think if it was just solo people in one man tents this would not have happened. Mind it is people with money buying up great sways of the moor then trying to keep it all to themselves. Going to have a job policing it. Cheers Arry

Guess I shouldn't complain Anybody know of her father by any chance? he was supposedly a famous coursing dog from Scotland I think 29" black dog. My dads buddy is serious breeder he went for a trial with the dog he was 11yo at the time he got some ridiculous amount like 40 odd rabbits few hares and 4 deer so he decided he wanted to cross him for his stamina and

  18. thing is guss you will be leaving rabbits underground....of course thats not necessarily a bad thing.....but the locator defiantly puts more rabbits in the bag...for the most part digging a rabbit out is usually a simple affair....1 0r 2 feet job done.....of course there are places where digging them out is a real chore ....but make no mistake that locator and spade make the bag a lot larger..

  24. Definitely mate, we haven't had big number days for about 15 years now so it's all about enjoying it and having a good crack with mates, any rabbits are a bonus. We managed 7 today though which was good going for around here.

  27. In my ferreting which is virtually all hedgerow work, digging is usually a result of work by more experienced Ferrets, most hobs I've had and more aggressive Jill's will need the odd dig to from 2nd year onwards. I do it because we can and it definitely means more rabbits in the bag. Much as I hate the actual digging because roots etc make it tough, I really like the relationship between me and ferrets that will stay when being dug to. They back off when you break through, then look up and move to where the rabbit is. If it's only one backed up then once that's out they then shin up the hole y

  28. Think there maybe more to come on this. The true wild camper will still camp there and the owners will go back to the Courts and try and get a ban on access altogether. The thin edge of the wedge as with field sports chip away at the common man. Cheers Arry

Mate it’s a percentage game, the only people that hit everything they shoot are on the internet and they Just edit out the shots that go awry, hit the fork or clout the back of there hand, as long as your enjoying yourself mate that’s the main thing and if that day ever comes you’ll still be able to feed yourself and yours, cracking shot and many young birds lives saved ???
