In March we had some guests stay with us in the cottage from Liverpool, a lovely couple and young daughter... they moved on to Cornwall after 3 nights and had a bad stay, we offered them the cottage for a night as they travelled back as it was empty anyway and broke their drive up.. They've stayed in touch with my wife and booked to stay this week... they wanted to thank us so offered to cook for us at the cottage, the chap has a bbq events business and she has a long established cake shop, she is pretty amazing as a baker to be honest.... I thought it would be good, but wow.. they w

53 this year and the one thing I notice is the second you take your foot off the gas and walking not quite so far or doing a bit less of any thing. Things slide quickly so you got keep pushing. There is a fella on youtube TA Fishing he is getting on a bit yet he sleeps in his car walks miles and fishing some long bloody sessions. Very entertaining fella too and seems nice guy. Then you got charts running around the mountains like a goat and Ray getting up to god knows what ! so that's some thing to aim for. The old saying use it or lose it is basically true

Only have the one runner now the old dog is ritered and lives with the mother I'm out enough to give 2 dogs the graft but this bitch i got atm does the lot and extremely well and if i had another runner atm i don't think I'd even give it that much graft of im honest as don't get me wrong she's been off sore and few little niggles but that gives me time to spend doing something else. So I nail a tin of fish to a post and waited for them to appear. I was after the adults to some of the cubs I cleaned up on a few weeks ago. The vixen appeared first but it was to light to move closer. I watched her catching bugs and waited. When it was dark enough to lose 150yds I was blessed with the dog fox turning up to join her! What I've found is if you start them out in the field when they at the age of about 3/4/5 months old out for a walk ,at the report of the shotgun as long as it's a single shot they won't bolt off like they will when they get older . If they are effected by the report a young pup will return to you for safety, if they begin to be effected badly I rest them at home for several months otherwise it begins to become a deep-seated problem, that may well stay with them for their whole lives . Bit of bad news, just had to have my blue whippet stag PTS with liver failure at 9 years. She was my once in a lifetime lurcher, a great mate and hunter. I thought I knew it all about rabbiting until she showed me what a real rabbiter can do. R.I.P my best mate. I'm glad I had the privilege to work with you.

Seen alot of people with 4/5/6 dogs how do you ever get the time to run and work them all I've got 1 and that's good enough for me to keep fit and lamp 3 4 times a week in the winter I've had 2 before but just couldn't find the runs or the time for both so once they got older and I got fresh stock I just stuck with keeping 1 dog now

The flip side of the lads that own multiple runners is churning out untested pups meant to catch the ear of anyone who will listen .I’d rather of gone to a yard with the one well worked bitch and pups than a yard full of whatever’s in fashion all looking fresh and clean muzzled . For me the graft came before anything and despite the claims of some that dogs escape scars or are very clever ?I’d still like to see a few medals on a dog no matter if it’s only rabbits .A trier will pick up a few medals at some point in its career be it barbed wire or teeth .
