April Ferreting sounds a bit like a female news-reader on regional TV but l'm actually referring to ferreting in April.....Which l did today. It was a paid job so it had to be done sooner or later and with a bit of breeze to take the heat out of the Sun, now seemed as good a time as any. The bury was a fairly substantial one in sandy soil but in an open field so l didn't feel under-manned . First conundrum involved deciding on a longnet pattern. Across to baulk hole hopping, or a classic surround? I opted for the latter;well a horseshoe - shaped affair . Partly because it might8 points

A left of field comment possibly but something that I have long thought to be true in regard to the English celebrating St. George's day. I am old enough to have seen changes in England. When I was young St. George's day was not celebrated. No one cared. It was not an issue. All the time that I have lived the Irish, Scots and Welsh have celebrated their patron saint's day. The English did not. The reason, in my opinion without wanting to offend anyone is this: The Irish, Scots and Welsh are defeated countries. Historically that cannot be argued with? Defeated by the English5 points

Well I was out today on the drillings again , I was like a Minneapolis copper thinning out the blacks ?? I didnt start off too well shooting a bit erratic but once I pulled myself together didnt do too bad. I was out for crop protection but there was a second good reason too as there was 7 lapwings and 4 curlew in the field I was shooting so a bit of a helping hand for them too. I picked 126 birds including a crow I found after I had packed up that a buzzard had feasted on. Lost a few birds so imagine must have shot around 140. Great day as birds decoyed text book style and I managed 10 right4 points

With three different fox's, you can be sure to have at least one den of cubs close by. How good would it be, to see some cubs appear around your place over the summer. How cool would that be.4 points

Brings back a memory, probably abut 14/15 year old drag netting on my local beach for sewin on a spring tide. I was the tallest so was farthest out and that b*****d theme tune started going through my head. ?? hanging on to a repurposed shunting pole, shitting myself while thinking I know we don't have great whites here.4 points

Shit's getting Crazy, here! Less than an hour ago, I finished feeding everything and took the foxes food out. No sign of Fox fox. Not unheard of. But disappointing as I love seeing her, thinking she's hidden in the grass. But, unable to resist lifting her head to see what I do. Called her. Sounded our code. Looked all around. At her usual corner. Over the hedge. Up the hill. Nothing. Oh well. Walked eight foot and glanced back: To see her, mouth already crammed with chicks. Just stuffing the last couple in there! WTF?! Crafty little fukker must have been holed up so close that I3 points

I guess most shooting men have that place either where it all started or a favourite patch they’d like to have ashes scattered .Mine keeps changing ?as they build houses on green fields ,b*****ds .Can see the surprise on a townies face when the kids rock up with my ashes to scatter on a new build lol. When I had the lurchers and most of my terriers are buried not far from my house on fields owned by the crown .Many a decent night there on the rabbits when rabbits were real and not a memory . Still the best thread on here lads ??3 points

Depends what you wanted to do with her mate. For what I want she hasn’t as much jacked as just doesn’t show the kind of heart and drive for it I would like. Shes good at some stuff and would suit someone who does that, I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for her as she was a sad dog when she came here and now she’s a happy thing, shows quite a bit of promise for day time mooching etc3 points

Very good post there and a totally different view, genetically the english have more continental dna compared to the irish, scotch and welsh, the english gave been attacked on thr southern coast for as long as we have recorded history, where we other home nations have the ancient celt and norse dna, until recently the english always changed more until the jet age, now we have been out crossed to camel jockeys and africans. England is too mixed up for peoples to care now as they have no loyalties to their host countries.3 points

A pal of mine mated a deerhound with a lot of Doxhope blood to an Irish coursing greyhound, but she didn't take. Hes done the mating again and hopefully, it looks like she's taken this time; With a bit of luck, I'll have a pup. Cheers.3 points

The ground I am talking about is now the 417 mountain bike park. It was on a hillside that was basically cattle grazing. It had a couple of small woods , a ditch with a stream , patches of bramble , tussocks of marsh grass , reeds , hedges . It was also not far from pheasant shoots . It was probably about 400 acres . It also neighboured a newly planted wood which I used to also shoot the deer and rabbits and squirrels. Lots of my old dogs are buried up there and I think I’d like my ashes scattered up there with them , in a place I spent many a happy hour in their company.2 points

Wouldn’t get far with a alternator from a scrap car mate as it’s not a motor a alternator is like a cars dynamo to produce power to charge batteries an operating lights he’ll want a starter motor??A old type pre engaged mini starter is best as once the gear is cut off the end it leaves a long shaft to add a spool were as a modern engage type starter needs a shaft added or a plate to bolt a spool to the old type are better to wire up an add a trigger switch to run the lure as well as they have a separate starter solenoid2 points
