I’ve just got in from feeding because I’m not going to feed in the morning...... I’m of to sunny Cheshire for my annual woodcock shoot . Travelling north this evening and staying in a Travel lodge , hopefully a leisurely full English in the morning then a short drive to the shoot . I will do a write up for anyone who is interested in the Driven , walked up and rough shooting section. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a witnessed right and left . ???? I think I’d like to be in the woodcock club . All those stuffy old farts need a bit of SL behaving badly at the annual dinner . ??

Hi Lads, Hope everyone's been well. Had abit of a problem with the account and couldn't get back in until now. In the mean time I've brought on a young dog.. He's 13 monhs now and showing great promise. He's seen a nice bit as of now. He's first cross bull whippet, I just couldn't refuse another and I have to say I'm quite happy with him.

Number 141 last night .Too easy really .Pulled up at farm that’s got a lot of feral pigeons about .I do it anyway but he’s not said anything until his bacteria count in milk has gone through the roof .Looked at the roosts and then into the fields for a fox .This farm is immaculate mind ,can’t understand why he hasn’t mentioned the ferals .3 foxes just sat in a field watching each other waiting for the tanker to go or some other trigger .Farmer reckons they come in for spilt milk and a chance of the many free range chicken he has that sometimes just jug in the loose straw outside the run .Can’

On to the 2nd farm , I set up facing a long wood and proceeded to play vixen mating call. A fox appeared at the edge of the wood some 250 yds away but hung up. I switched the call to gekkering with an immediate response , he came trotting in to around 100yds and shot him off the quads once again ? a nice big dog fox this time.

Love these theoretical red deer threads. Especially on a Sunday afternoon, which is a time for drinking here in rural ireland. That doesn't mean I don't believe it can be done but the threads are great entertainment for a semi alcoholic idiot like me.

Well the birds are fed and looking at where they are, we’ll be shooting 4 main drives on Saturday. Making up the rest of the day with a few small drives. Well I had a choice Christmas shopping ??or drop the boss off and go squirrel hunting. Well now difficult decision Not. Despite it peeing down sideways found the first couple on the ponds and unfortunately they're now resident in the pond having fell in when shot. End of the village feeders now very difficult to see anything as the constant heavy rain was a grey curtain in the scope . After being stuck in the house all week due to fog and rain I was desperate to be out last night seeing as there was a break in the weather. 1st farm had 3 stands calling and saw nothing so headed back to the car which was parked next to a small field with a stream running through it and gorse and rushes. Had a last call here ,on switching the caller on with young rabbit immediately a fox came screaming in from my right behind a gorse Bush and stopped 45 yds away looking at the caller , vixen quickly dispatched ?

Good write up ? it’s nice to see people doing a write up when things don’t go to plan, many years ago I shot a feral cat that I was convinced was a cub, at the time I thought it was the farm cat until I built up the courage to ask the farmer, I spent ages looking at it before I took the shot. It doesn’t matter how many times it goes to plan at some point it will go wrong and if everyone can learn something from that it can only be a good thing ?

Went out ferreting a few days ago with hodge, his uncle and nephew (the 2 stephs) only did 2 decent size warrens, he tried his young ferrets that i bred this year and they did ok, nightmare of a place with big bramble patches and fallen trees, used the longnets aswell and got a few good size healthy rabbits, plenty more to go at here,

Went to the rat farm this morning to a different spot from usual, got a few rats and ferals, seen loads of rats again as usual, been using red lamp for a few month so think il change colour, has any you lads done well with green or blue light on rats

Had morning out with the Dandie and my marra collie she steady to call back etc any way gave him a chance with not as many terriers their, put smoker in and few bolted he was mad keen caught one bite him few times he nailed it next one no messing around. Walking the moors is my favourite part of dog work just letting the dog work the heather no the easiest place to run with the height of the heather and gullies can be a dangerous place but the peace and quiet and the noise of the grouse does for me sometimes you will see the golden eagles breath taking

I know what you mean mate, I just heard Johnny Nelson saying about keeping that jab going whilst he has his "break", good point i thought..sometimes he stops throwing completely and allows some pressure on.. Hes a better finisher than Bruno for me though, and is a better finisher than Fury, he will land at some point in the fight and then we'll see a bit more about Fury...
