  3. Nothing killed, but what a cracking morning for a walk... Straight out the backdoor and away, dogs are starting to shape up, done a bit of lamping and quick ferreting trips, looking forward to the hedges dying back and getting at it properly!

  6. Took my young bedy grey and the busher out for few hours yesterday. i was going to drop nets but after a couple bolted into nets I decided to lift them and give the jooks a few runs . this spot ideal for bolting to a youngster as no hedges or barbed wire ,and warrens run down middle of field , my young bitch took the first bolter as it Was going threw sheep fencing by back leg and on way back she lost it trying to get better hold but she soon made good her mistake and brought it back to hand .she went on to take 4 and some great catches for a youngster, my bedy whippet x

  11. Watch out for the "The Yellow Stainer Mushroom" often in amongst Field Mushrooms and Horse Mushrooms. Scratch the outside of the Cap and bottom of the Stalk if it goes bright yellow you have one. There are more poisonings in the UK than with any other Mushroom. Look how alike they are. How to tell. 13. I’m the same, I have a few people who are always grateful for a few birds and like you say I don’t want paying for them because it’s not about the money, one thing that annoys me about the shoot is at the end of the day some people don’t want to take any birds with them, so in my head I think what’s the point in shooting them if you don’t want them, they might as well go and shoot clays if you have no respect for the birds you are taking

  18. It was like a catchup day for all ,didnt get going till 10,30 ish by choice .Out of 60,ish birds put up in the 4 hours we were out the 5 guns bagged 17 which was fine by everyone .Its an informal day and much ,craic and banter with a great "lunch" provided by us all.Pheasant sausage rolls and meatballs ,homemade jams ,chillies, cheese board and some nice soft breads. We all had a good laugh and giggle and renewed old friendships .The bag didnt matter ,its normally only around 30 birds anyhow ,and we all went home smilling

  28. Had some fun and games with hunt sabs a few weeks back when lamping, I think keeping your head down all round is a good idea these days, even though rabbits are completely legal it dont matter to those muppets....God forbid you accidentally bumped into anything else whilst they are watching you...let alone making it public on here.. It's a shame though, we used to do some big posts on days/nights out on here with Sean's brilliant pics a few years ago... might put a couple of ferreting posts up as the season moves on, it's still.tough going in the hedges at the moment....

  40. I was told by an experienced shot to get on one knee to shoot boar coming toward you if your on the ground and not up in a raised stand. ( If you've got the nerve ). He reasoned that kneeling you were smaller and that you were shooting straight at the target rather than having to add downward lead as the target closed in. He said that he had seen people ripped and seriously injured by boar going through them. One of the son in laws has a place down in middle France and says that when they have the local boar shoots it is wise to stay inside as they tend to shoot all over the place and everyo

  41. I'm really interested in seeing how they all turn out. I've been perfectly happy with my five pure-breds for the last nineteen years but I've been working them in the small fields and dense, bramble strewn woodlands of south 'am'shire where rabbits rarely run more than a few yards. However, we're hoping to move to Devon within the next few years so maybe I'll need something with longer legs. Not sure I can get on with that sneaky lurcher temperament though!?
