Last week I caught 2 Chinese Mitten crabs on tidal Trent which I have never seen neither has my fishing buddy. He then went and caught a 22lb sturgeon on same stretch yesterday. When he told me my first response was 'f**k off', then the pic came. Apparantley there has been a few caught up and down different stretches. Also talks of baby catfish being caught in matches so it seems the cats are breeding too. Could be a few more unexpected catches to come. Anyone else got any other interesting ones?5 points

Couldn't care less if a pup was £50 or £1000 all worth the same to me. What I couldn't do is accept a free pup, I'd feel a right c**t and wouldn't feel like it was all mine. Would pay or give the money to their family or something5 points

There’s cnuts in every walk of life and the lurcher game ain’t no different, in fact I’ve met more lying scumbags through my time in the dog game than any other part of my life. For some people money comes before dogs but for me it’s the other way round.5 points

another great post sl... I really like this site. its the only one I'm on, and this section is by far the most interesting! I like my air rifles and always will, I've used them 30+years... its only the last couple of years that ive had the opportunity to get my fac, it didn't fall in with my previous life/ x-wife. my dad got me into fishing as a young lad and by 8 I was getting moaned at by my mum for nicking the wire off the back of the paintings! im out loads but don't really do hunting posts with the big stuff because of having young kids... a bloke not 5 mins walk5 points

I’ve nearly been trampled a few times Ls.. if im using nv I give the cows and horses a quick shine of me torch now, seems to put them at ease and knock off there inquisitiveness when they know where and what you are..it doesn’t seem to put the rabbits off either?4 points

I am afraid I am going to have to stop reading threads about dog values, cos I cant get my head round how little people value a sporting companion that you could be working for 7 or 8 years, my old spaniel is 11years old and has done 10 seasons and I mean seasons not just coming along, a cocker back then was 4 or 5 hundred that's £50 a year and a lurcher is no les valuable.4 points

I must be mad but , I actually look forward to getting up at 5.30 and feeding my birds . This is because I’ve had a good season and I know that I’ve got plenty for the season. But I’ve been doing this long enough that I’ve had bad years when I’ve thought “ where are the birds ? How am I going to produce days with so few birds about? “ I’m on the first feed ride at about 6am , the first birds start dropping down at about 6.25 am and by 6.35 they are lined up on the feed . I have to pick my way along the rides ploughing my way along making sure not to run any over. It’s reassuring and heart war4 points

I like the gippos they,re up for a laugh....a pal of mines a big Millwall fan lives round the corner from the ground he,s gone on holiday and had a local little travelling mob to do him a driveway....ive bunged them a few quid to do this,i cant wait to see his face when he gets back ?4 points

Good sensible comments lads... I know for a fact, that certain coursing Studs can command a high price for their services, and any resulting pups will not be sold cheap. Obviously, when a breeder has paid a £1000 for a lining, he is entitled to ask what he likes, for his pups. I've never mixed in such company, and my lurchers ain't in the same league, so I always try to breed a pup, solely for my own requirements. Once, I have my choice to hand, the rest of the litter can then be placed in other, safe hands. As a pensioner, my needs are modest,..I don't want money,...4 points

Had another session on the rabbits as last week but with my 97 rather than the HW 100. Yes the spring rifles test you much more than a puffer but what a feeling taking another 53 yard rabbit with such accuracy that the 97 offers. Here's the lane I was shooting over. Here's Kaiser`s retrieve. The 97`s shot placement at a lazed 53 yards. Instant despatch. atb Mark.3 points

What I should have said as well is that I’ve also made lifelong friendships and some of the most genuine lads you could come across, I could fill my kennels twice over with quality animals both terriers and lurchers and not a penny would change hands.3 points

Absolutely on the money SL and Si. I'm in same boat; was bunking off school before leaving primary just to do anything outdoors. My dad was a keen hill walker & growing up in snowdonia was a privilege with him showing me every track possible. He taught me all about bird ID and animal tracking. But my dad not into country sports at all. My uncle took me feretting & he started a lifong interest in running dogs. Like everyone else I got air rifle (break barrel cometa) at 10 and shotgun at 17. Started helping with lambing at 11 and I've only missed two lambing seasons in over 20 years3 points

Number one rule of shooting ...identify your target .No ifs or buts if he could 100% identify his target as a fox he shouldn’t have pulled the trigger ...and he shouldn’t have a ticket now ..3 points

I like the photo Si , a scene that is unknown to most . I’ve been into country sports since I could walk . My father was a bookmaker and greyhound trainer , and general ner do well , who took me Ferretting , and what I know now was poaching I suppose at an early age , and I was hooked. I got air rifles ( bsa meteor) my first , and fishing . But ferreting and ferrets and terriers and Lurcher’s were what made me tick . It’s so much a part of me , and so ingrained in my life that I don’t know anything else . I’ve spent all my life at the bottom of a hedge . I don’t go on any other social media a3 points

I would wait a while yet, Saudi is currently under attack from Iran sponsored rebels. There has been drone and cruise missile attacks only this last week against two of Saudi's oil fields , Abqaiq and Khurais . The worrying thing being that the Saudi's state of the art defence system is apparently defenceless against these attacks . Handily these attacks are hardly being mentioned in the media. You can not tell me a massive sporting event full of Westerners would not be thought of as a legitimate target over there.3 points

if you mate any old dog to any old bitch willy-nilly and feed the bitch and let her do the rest pups are cheep to rear and should be priced accordingly , if you take time years of experience to make your choice of stud based on his working ability witch you have seen and taken in with your own eyes for several seasons, not five minuets or what someone else said is a good dog, and took into account its pedigree and how that compliments your bitch and therefore its offspring, sat up all night to make sure all is well with welping etc given them and your bitch the best care, food etc, wormers3 points

I’m just sat in the mule next to one of the pens having a watch and listen. It won’t be long and the nights will be long and the daylight short and I will be sat on the sofa at this time bored shitless . The sound of the pheasants flying up to roost in their hundreds makes me feel content that I’ve got them this far and they are still here and looking healthy and fit . Won’t be long before we start shooting , 12th October for us . I can also here a Muntjac buck barking in the distance. A hornet just flew past making a very deep buzzing sound that had me on alert . Then a plane went over an2 points

This is the trouble and one of the issues the current firearms review is looking at. Currently the law is a lottery because each force makes it's own rules up and then hides behind the fact the Home Office rules are just guidelines and not legally binding. You have some forces using their own forms, requiring their own additional requirements. Some grant CF at 1st grant. Some only RF. Some will grant open, some only closed. Some will grant if GP refuses to provide a med, other won't. It's just a joke. My region used to be really restrictive and grant almost nothing but for a number of years no2 points
