Out this morning at first light and we thought we'd have to be early to find to ground as although it was misty the sun was burning it off quick time and it was warming up,so we set off with the keepers son jumping in the motor with us as he just loves coming out with us and we went through checking a few holes we'd seen pulled or run through recently and all drew a blank,we walked a few hedge rows like you do looking for any new places then we checked the earth we had a dog fox out of a few weeks back with my russell. Now i wasn't just using her to prove a point to old FD but i let my plummer

  4. Digging terrier's sold as bushing dogs because they failed at their job, half cross bulls sold as lurchers because they aint got the heart to do what they are bred for. Then these failed dogs are bred from and the pups sold and advertised to do the job the parents failed at! then people are looking to add more because the pups lack something! I don't see a problem adding base breeds to good stock for fresh blood, but adding base blood to fix something that is broke? far to many breed for money and don't cull shit as its like throwing money away to them!

Went to check some new land today An wasn’t what was cracked up to be so we headed back home to try local, Left the old fella to have a mooch about the sett I didn’t expect him to drop in of course was the set he dropped into . I haven’t even seen a dog drop in this before ?, he was there about 20-25 mins digging on an eventually dropped on a small vixen. He was lifted and she was let run for another day

  9. Thank you! We hunt mainly hares and foxes) if very lucky - can run after deers (not too many in the woods here nowadays, alas) Khortiy is mixture of local dogs + brought in Asian hounds like Saukii, Tazy etc. They are slightly less quick on short distance than borzoi but has higher stamina and can run for many kilometers in good speed and have strong hunting instincts. Here is the photo - khortiy (left dog).

  18. After we were recommended to a keeper up north all the phone calls and arrangements made we set a date and today was the day, we have normally finished by now but I wanted my size 11s firmly in the door,so off we went. On arrival we jumped in with the keeper for him to show us a few likely looking spots, then he left us too it, it made a change from the windy open fells we have become accustomed too, we saw 2 rabbits drop in a sandy sett so we made a start, 10 bunnies later, and a small one we made a move to a release pen that was littered with holes, but without a dog today it was just a case

I sensed he was a bit odd but i was going through a rough patch with the mrs at the time she was bollocking me about not being all that nice to people i didnt know so when i kept swerving him after i met him she got on my case about it.....so it was all her fault ! Strange lad though he was one of these who had absolutely no tact and just came out with whatever was on his mind,i dont know if its called aspergers but its definately something......we had a meal after the footie and a pal of mine walked in,he,s a big lad with a f****d up eye and a big scar going through it,quite a nasty look

Living in HK my mate (who oddly enough used to work for Walshie ) was a stunt man and actor,he asked me did I want to work for a week in a Jackie chan and anita mui movie,i said yup, filmed for a week,i actually got a speaking part (which they cut out) so you just see me walking around looking shocked like a numpty as Jackie chan in a drunken stupour is kicking f**k out of some guys who piss him off, moral of the story don't f**k with drunken Chinese geezers.

  28. Ok. Ive had a lot of experience with bears(at least my dogs have) so I don’t worry to much. Ive never crossed pathes with a true “ predator bear (or I wouldn’t be writing this) but some are more curious that others. You have to watch out for moma with cubs. She’s just doing her job, but might chew you up just to prove a point. Worst feeling I’ve ever had was while fishing/gold panning in a little stream aways from town. I had a hound and an Airedale sitting on the bank waiting for me, when they started growling and woofing at something across the stream. The

  32. I'm not a numpty nor particularly numerous, I just asked a question. Why must people always give a negative (hypothetical) response to an honest question. I know both dogs and they are not owned by a numpty who wants to make his dogs into rabid killers, the bitch is rather quiet and timid and the dog although a typical bull type has a very good nose good build and is good with people as well as having the advantage of being leggy for a bull breed. Any way thanks for the advice on the termination, imagine if your mother had thought the same way as you

  36. Gone anytime from over night to two weeks. Landscape is bush or forest as you guys would call it. Looking out of my front window is straight bush for ever until you hit the NWT. Nope, I’m no Ranger, just a guy that likes to hunt / fish/camp / canoe in the back county. Your question as to weather a dog is a help or not I say definitely. I always have one with me. Good company, good early warning system for two and four legged critters, and if shit got real, I guess it’s 50lb of good eating.........?

  37. luckily - no! we had seen wolves from pretty far away 2 times, like 500 meters, and it was not a pack, just 1 wolf. And no bears. If you live there you pretty quickly come to know where are the areas with too strong and dangerous beasts. And if with 1 wolf 3-4 well trained dogs may have a good chance even to hunt it down, with bear only chance is to avoid meeting it by all the means.

  39. I’m not pulling your mate down at all, as we’ve all got to jump a fence now and then. BUT if he’s constantly poached, looking over his shoulder and getting away quick as possible then IMO he’s never really enjoyed himself, never really tested the dogs and won’t know what he’s got as he never seen other people’s dogs to use as a barometer against his own. When I might have poached in my youth, it’s a case of get the dog in, get a mark ASAP, and get the dog out and away. On permission, it’s drop the dog in, have a cuppa and whatever, check for a mark etc etc, give the dog time and IMO makes for

I admire all of the named terrier men, past and present, most didn't want the name, and all of them got into it for the sport not the fame.......fame is something that's earned, not freely given. On a personal level it would have to be Nick, I don't speak to him and haven't for a long time but he's one of the best men I know with a terrier .
