I once heard someone say you can find good in everything if you look for it . It was at the time of the Boston marathon bombing and the guy said "look for the helpers , look for the people running to help the injured " . It stuck in my mind from that day . In this case look at the people rounding round the family of the kid that died8 points

I know feck all about any of these children's ball games that you all seem to get so excited about. But listening to your descriptions here I'm thinking rugby would be more my scene. Is rugby the one with the funny shaped ball?8 points

Seeing stuff like that destroys you a bit mate, so let me give you a little bit of positive to restore your faith in the world a bit. Little lad aged 18 months lives down the way in my parish, he has something wrong with his brain and the family are having Christmas early in case he don’t make it. My postman turned up the other morning with his van absolutely freighted up, I asked the score and he said he was delivering 5000 cards to the house and another 10,000 this week. A bloke had driven 120 miles before work to put up an inflatable snow globe in the front garden so it was t8 points

Like most lads that have done a bit I've run lurchers and dropped terriers in literally thousands of places with no permission, had shotguns pulled on us more than once, ducked and dived from landowners and the law, fisticuffs a couple of times and only ever had one court appearance and funnily enough that was actually on permission, lol. But to feel the need to drive over a man to get away just shows cowardice, no doubt their dogs had more balls than they did.5 points

There was two lads in the motor....they would have been far better served, getting out and fronting the angry guy... If he tried to detain them,.their best choice would be to defend themselves, or at least try to convince the guy that they would be leaving the field, and would not be returning. Most sane and sensible custodians of the land, will accept this even if they don't believe ya.. IF you panic , like a big girly,..and foolishly maim or kill the dopey fecker, you will be serving time when you really should be enjoying what may well be,..the last and final years,... of5 points

If your a hunting man with a live fox you will be going to prison. If you have a 'sanctuary' called something like fluffy cuddles animal resort I'm sure it's fine4 points

And thinking about it I've never owned a lurcher that wouldn't of happily jumped into a strangers car, an open boot was like chips to a piss head. Lol.3 points

Tbh Ive never really got the whole protection dog thing unless you're doing security or doing some kind of competetive sport as if I thought I really needed protecting from someone that scary I wouldnt want to relying on a dog. Some people might find that weird as I own a bandog and I've done some aspects of what you could call protection training. But I only took certain aspects that I felt neccesary to build a well rounded confident dog which would guard my place and keep my spaniels safe as spaniels were disappearing left right and centre at the time.Contary to what a lot of people believe ju3 points

Same as mate I remember when Martin Mcdonagh sent his young lad up my mates back garden and took his two lurchers and a springer a copper who lived next door but one saw the young lad and the dogs went with him and the copper thought my mate had got a young lad to walk his dogs wile he was at work and never thought to confront him stealing the dogs. Thankfully it turned into a happy ending as we got the dogs back.2 points

“Each to their own”- we're all different with different ideas and philosophies. ”Mine is not to reason why”- I don’t need to justify why my point of view is different to anyone else’s. We all have opinions, rightly or wrongly, but I can respect other’s opinions without agreeing with them . And there endeth the lesson ! LOL ! Cheers.2 points

I honestly believe that we will eventually see more attacks by so called bandogs since in the last few years they have started to become more haphazardly bred with stupid things like colour and looks in mind rather than temperament and solid nerve. And I believe years ago it was a comination of both. They were being bred and home with sensible enthusiasts out of purpose bred dogs selected with important traits in mind. Some people commenting on this thread dont seem to realise that because a dog can guard or have drive it doesnt mean they've got to be a mindless idiot that just wants to attack ev2 points

Trouble is mate so many things get called a bandog these days when they're nothing more than a load of breeds chucked together but the origional bandogs being produced were generally a traditional.mastiff breed, normally English or Neopolitan crossed with a Game bred bulldog. Not sure on the XL bullies exactly as Ive never had any interest as I could see what they were and what way they were gunna go when I first saw them cropping up 7 or 8 years ago but I believe theres pitbull and AB in them but the same as a lot of what people are calling bandogs now it was done with not a lot of thought oth2 points

I've never had a lurcher that was a good guard, probably because they've all been kennelled and trained to be quiet. Now this girl WAS a good guard; Profesionally trained by an Indian Army dog handler, no barking, no histrionics, just a stare, a curled lip and a low growl ! Absolutely fine with other dogs, even caught the odd rabbit and worked with the lurchers; Cheers.2 points

They don’t coach kids to be strikers anymore and so they have almost gone out of production……Haaland is the first proper striker I have seen in years. The Player development plan for academy players is all based on the 4-3-3 system and rotating positions (very similar to the Ajax model that produces Bergkamp etc) but what we have ended up with is a load of 10s and 8s…..even this so called “false 9” is a 10 really The days when a 10 played behind a 9 and created and let them both cause havoc are gone. They don’t want strikers, they want highly athletic multi positional players w2 points

That’s kind, thanks. Every hare and pheasant we see out walking its “Well my harris hawk might’ve got that one.” And another lecture about how to hold your arm just right for it. Walked half a mile yesterday carrying his water bottle in his outstretched arm to ‘build up his arm muscles’. He’s only 17kg, probably fair game for the eagles he’s been watching in Mongolia!2 points

My 15 year old lad commented last night, that he'd like an Italian greyhound if we get another dog, in a couple of years time. Was seriously tempted to thrash him, and send him to bed very early!!2 points

The Harris hawk revolution is a very good book. If Harris hawks is your choice any of the books by Martin Hollinshead would be impossible to beat for a UK based austringer. Although at six I'd say he has a long way to go until he's responsible enough to take charge of a hawk of his own. Living in Sterling you are very close to a good hawk breeder who may be able to put him in touch with local austringers. That would allow him to gain hands on experience as he develops.2 points
