A great uncle of mine was in the engineers during the landings. He suffered what they’d call nowadays ‘life changing injuries’, sometime after landing. I remember as a kid at family gatherings, no-one really spoke about it, and if they did, it was always in hushed tones away from him. I certainly don’t remember there being much talk of heroism and glorious victory, just sympathy for what he’d gone through. Shortly before he died he did speak about his experiences with an uncle. His story was fascinating, but at the same time, probably typical of what many of those young men did. Although I onl11 points

I was talking to my boy last night (no doubt boring the pants off him ! Lol) and saying how lads barely a couple of years older than him had spent that day 78 years ago getting their kit ready, climbing into boats and gliders and aircraft. Airborne forces took off at 11:30 last night all them years ago, they were the first on the ground. I always think what thoughts and feeling were going through their head and just the general character of them to be going and doing that for a world they thought worth it. Its humbling mate, well to me it is anyway ?11 points

My dad lied about his age and joined the Royal Navy at 15 in the mistaken belief he would join his older brother, not knowing the Navy had a policy of not letting brothers sail on the same ship. He saw action from the Murmansk convoys in the Arctic circle to shelling Burma in south east Asia, as well as in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. He sailed on ships as diverse as Tribal Class destroyers, HMS Nubian, and aircraft carriers, HMS Ark Royal, and finished the war with a chest full of campaign medals. After the war, he never travelled abroad again, or even had a passport, until6 points

After an MRI Scan it has been revealed that my prostate cancer ends no further treatment. After X-rays on my shoulder(following a fall whilst setting some crayfish traps where I maybe should not have been) they say that mild osteoarthritis is my problem. Heard the cuckoo again. Saw my first rabbit in ages which was a black un. Heard that rabbit population on one of my old perms is on the mend, East Midlands Airport. Her in doors still loves me. What a day. Jok.6 points

They missed a trick there - they could have kept flicking that button and got him all the way to the police van, like one of those old fashioned remote controlled cars on a wire On a more serious note - I hope GL wasn't down there picking Samphire5 points

All these references harking back to the now defunct, Shooting News, just goes to show, how seemingly important and influential, that curious weekly rag was,... to so many lads....?4 points

There's a huge BBQ event downtown, 4 day event, dozens of hog roast stands, really good atmosphere, American stands are funny with shouts of "Rack on" and "Yehawwww" when they throw ribs on the grill. I saw Hog Heaven, the guy said when a pig goes in there its going to hoggie heaven ?4 points

After 7 years of mind numbing call centre work I've finally took the plunge to go fully self employed bait collecting. The place was slowly eating away at my soul3 points

Was a good mag back then. Used to love looking at the adverts of stuff that I struggled to afford. Remember the old net making kit off kp and s I think. That lovely smell of hemp nets hanging off the caravan door. Ordered a blue eye off there to and my ferret finders. The local terrier man simpson I think used to write good stuff. Then there was that dodgy fella used to write the lurcher articles ah great days3 points

it certainly was Phil. it was the only thing we could get worth reading for a lot of what I would call working class lads. we viewed the shooting times as the other side of the fence. also we were glued to the classified section as pups, ferrets etc, there wasn't the wide ranging market of today's Internet.3 points

Everybody these days seems to use soft lures mounted on jig heads. The fish must be sick to death of seeing the same things being put before them. So, when I spotted these online off for little money I pressed the Buy Now button immediately Most of them are Mepps 1, 2 or 3 with a few other makes thrown in. Over 25 useable spinners, 2 minnow dead bait mounts and a couple of very useful boxes for €30. Perch beware!2 points

I think he will win the vote of confidence. If he goes, who will replace him ? Whatever anyone thinks of Boris, there's no obvious candidate to step in. The Conservative MP's better realise what will happen if Boris goes....... Labour will almost certainly win the next election. Cheers.2 points

Went lamping crabs; managed enough for bait along with a few flatties and a blonde ray case but the highlight was a bass of probably 4lb that I managed to catch by putting the kids net on his head and bucket behind him2 points
