  2. I’m from a keepering background myself and would shoot cubs every year. Wasn’t something I had a problem doing, but at the same time was never something I got any enjoyment out of. was just a necessity of the job. But now I’m out of it an just hunt an shoot as a hobby , it would never enter my head to seek out a litter an wipe them out with a rifle just for sport. Let’s be real there is no sport in that. To be honest as the more years go by the less bothered iv been about shooting an numbers, an the more I just love working dogs , wether it be a gundog or a runner ??

  3. Not a x, but here’s a collie bitch I bred 18 months ago, the owner called by to see me today. 3/4 welsh, 1/4 border. Good type to breed a littler of Lurchers off.

  4. so are we taking bets that the assholes in charge will come up with more excuses to keep all the bullshit still going ?.the indian variant is more dangerous but the death rates are way lower than before so what more shit will they come up with ?.did hear that the hayfever variant is due to be brought out to prolong the measures ffs.should people now with the information we have say enough is enough and just get back to normal as this corvid is about 5 times less likely to kill you than the flu.

  5. This is always a good topic to put your feet up pour a cider or two and read the bullshit of 15 mile behind the bike and 10 mile walk a day ? Come on let’s have a starter for ten ? Mchull where are you when I need you ? ? That get dogs ready for 9 nights / days a week come season ?

  6. Dave like my post says if they causing problems then control them but if they not and land owner as no problem with them then leave alone ,if you going to poach land do it for putting meat on the table not for shooting for pure joy of killing a cub

  7. Whilst doing ancestral research I had some info past to me about my Grandads Brother Jack who was in the trenches of ww1. It was a letter from a Lady farmer who was requesting he be released from the front to come back to do the harvest, which apparently he did. I often wonder what it must have been like for him to come from that Hell to the beautiful fields of Devon knowing you have to go back to Hell when the harvest was over. My Grandfather was Navy and in the Battle of Jutland. What that generation went through only to lose their sons 22 years later as he did, fathers brother went dow

  8. The pheasant..... The most overrated bird that lives...... Reared to be shot by folks who pay well to take a brace home..... I know a lad who is paid to take his JCB and bury hundreds of them each season on a shoot near me as no one wants them...... Pointless, might as well shoot a few clays.

  9. No bread left so I had to have toast. Seriously though mid morning came in from the garden and thought I would have a piece of toast only to find blue bits starting on what I had left of an uncut loaf. So thought bollocks I will make some fresh then wifey said she don't like white bread so I made one for her as well. So she has one with all the bits and seeds in, often wonder if some of them black seeds are really mouses shit Lol. Trouble is now I cant leave that fresh loaf alone. Cheers Arry

  14. I’ve been concentrating on my own fitness rather than the dogs there’s plenty of time left to get a dog somewhere near ready for some runs more near the time I’ve kept the dog relatively fit as she’s excised daily she comes out jogging with me every other day I’m not having a dog busting with fitness beginning of season to run green gear it’s pointless better to bringing them in slow an steady behind gear than have them peak to quickly but to be honest I’m never going to need a dog that’s a super fit machine I just need a dog fit enough to catch shit.

  19. Yea was in a rough state and christ knows how it got where it was. Cleaned it up as a surprise for my ferreting mate. his father was in Army gliders in the Second World War and they used them for cutting them self out if needed after crashing. He told me his father had his from the war but it went missing. At first I had left it in the hedge but after he told me about his dad I went back and got it and cleaned it up the best I could then gave it to him. He put a shaft on it after that. Cheers carry

  24. My first round of goldies, this was when they first jumped and they are fully weaned and eating now. I've used feeders to try and boost my numbers but I'm letting the hen sit them herself this time and she's back on 5 eggs now. I've not bred as many mules this year but still got a few to hatch and then I'm done for the year.

  26. All my digging is on shooting estates and if the keepers want cubs removing which they all do then unless i want to loose my permission i deal with them,a pissy job and one i hate but this year two cubs went to a fella who keeps BOP,s who had the space to rear them instead of them getting shot and there doing fine after a few months of captivity. Never met a gamekeeper yet who'd leave a litter grow up on his estate and be happy with the loss of game etc...

  30. If your job is driving the roads killing every fox within a 5 mile radius of a place where you keep some birds then I've no problem lumping you in with the Facebook ballbags, if you keep your own ground free from foxes then that's fair enough but you and I both know that's not how it works.

  31. You lot need to calm down, some of us have a livelihood to protect against foxes, and I’m out with the rifle every night needed doing it, and it’s not done for fun or sport, it’s done out of necessity.

  34. Real old style herders? We had quite a few of that ilk in the 1950's, and so did most of the farms around us... There was obvious trialing going on, but even back then there seemed to be a variation in pure farm dogs/curs/cattle mutts and the more closely bred and slightly more expensive,.Border Collies. We just kept the mongrelly types, they exerted a fair bit of eye and maintained plenty of bite,..but you had to watch them carefully , or they would go feral on ya..? As an aside,..I often wonder if nowadays,..the first cross Collie/Grey will go by the wayside? I say this

  38. It that was killed by dogs, I'm sure there wouldn't be much left of it being a cub that size, unless the owner had to step in to help the dog finish the job! Could be anything. At least when shooting gets the ban in the future (if it does eventually) the average lazy sit in the truck type and shoot a litter of cubs in July will be gone, cause their too lazy to do any different. Just killers with no understanding of the countryside.

  39. Yeah, its a task that I do not relish,...but I've cleared litters from under customers sheds,..the Ballroom in a Holiday Camp (Hi De Hi) and once in a Nudist Camp! Locally, I am duty bound to assist the Keepers on several game shoots,..these guys have been fair to me in the past and permitted all sorts of fun and games on their ground,.so when the call comes out to provide a bit of, finding and flushing, I have to turn up...? Personally,..foxes hold little interest for me,...I much prefer rabbiting... Enjoy the Summer lads and stay safe, kind regards, OldPhil.?

  40. Hi,..well, you are obviously passionate about your pastime, and I applaud you for that..(I love a man who is serious about his hunting, I cannot be doing with fellows who are simply playing at the game..? They hold no interest for me)? Words and meanings frequently get lost in translation, and this occurs even when men are talking the same language? I apologise if my previous post was not as concise as it might have been. Like a lot of lads, I've been at the death of thousands of rats, especially when the big Barn Poultry sheds and Battery Chicken farms are being cleaned out...T
