It’s that annoying time of year now where our welsh hedges are at there thinnest and rabbits popping up where you haven’t seen them all winter and dog marking everywhere been good season and chuffed with the dog. Oxford way was the go to area for a lot of welsh lads with runners....only thing we had to go at locally was digging... .....used to lamp down that way first in 98.. dropped off friday nights,knocking stuff over and sleeping in barns until the lift came on a Sunday to collect you and your goodies...dogs I have here now,will be my last...if I change my mind,then I get one from a rescue centre... having dogs has controlled my lifestyle choices since my early teens...will be nice to just say f**k it,jump on a plane,book a hotel etc...and not have the worry of whos looking after 5/6 dogs

I quit 2 seasons ago now after a long time at it. it wasn’t worth the bother time an effort no more put in it got to a point that you’d be doing a dusk till dawn for one or two rabbits on the lamp 2 rabbits would be a good night that’s how bad it got! My last season at it I finished the season on 98 lamped rabbits with the dog plus other bits. For the last 10yrs I’ve watched rabbit numbers dwindle at one point we could find more than enough work for 6 ferrets and 7 dogs between us now you’d be lucky to actually call a dog a working dog. Jobs fecked rabbit wise locally and going off local facebook pages theyre grassing people up left right and centre out walking lurchers so i dont miss having a runner. I was dogless for a few months after getting my old terrier pts but it was hard so got a little cocker pup so I can still get out for a mooch. It's not all about catching to me it's getting out. He's retrieving and working cover so might see about getting out on some smaller shoots beating in future too.

Ive enjoyed myself over the yrs...been all over,hunted everything on this island,and stuff I wernt supposed too,except them big reds in the Highlands....been to places where you could take 200 plus rabbits in a day,every day for a week...dug on some massive famous estates and surrounding land,met my heros,met more than enough muppets along the way,and enjoyed the company of some top class hunting men and women....the dogs ive bred have been sent far and wide...never no complaints...they always came back for replacements...so must of been doing something right all these yrs...Ive got my memor

To be fair when I first had a led the wet grass and due used to shine and the dog would pull on the slip like it had seen eye shine , I just couldn't gwt on with them so only use them for finding birds in trees at night
