I don't think that's true, a dog that has caught plenty of pigs will have the scars to show for its efforts ,even if its just a bailer. One out a big boar can make short work of a dog in fact I lost(killed) several really hard dogs due to battling a boar out of ear shot ,once the dog gets a bit buggered the boar takes control & gives the dog a real going over .At times we would find the site of the battle later that day ,at other times we would find the dead dog during the summer by the smell a few weeks later .Its just a gamble finding a dead dog in our heavy bush ,there are a million pl13 points

In my eyes there's two big problems, accountants and the entitlement culture. Accountants get hold of what started off as a good idea, carbon offsetting, environmental subsidy schemes, green energy etc, and immediately pick it to pieces and find loopholes in it to either make or save money. It becomes a tick box exercise and the positive gain it was supposed to achieve is lost. The entitlement culture means people don't appreciate food and aren't willing to pay what it costs to produce in a more sustainable way. They believe its their due, along with latest phones, massive TV, new ca7 points

You have to ask yourself what does a wild polecat bring to the table….. absolutely nothing, there out and out killers, ferrets have been domesticated for years for a reason, why anyone seriously into ferreting rabbits would even contemplate introducing wild stuff into there line is beyond me, but that’s just my opinion5 points
-
Mate this we trick will.work I done it two seasons ago let about 21 rabbits go near my house how theres plenty of cover for them and holes too and now with in about 5 fields plenty of rabbits about I don't hunt them much just keep them for when out walking dogs and pups only good thing no one else is hunting them so that's counts for a lot5 points

We used to fly loads of animals from Southern Africa to the Middle East for zoos and private collectors, and this included African wild dogs, which some are trying to rename as "painted wolves". I enjoyed talking to the handlers/keepers, and they told me African wild dogs are impossible to tame or domesticate, even if they were hand reared from birth. Theyve been around for millennia, so seems strange they've never been domesticated, whilst other canines have. Cheers.5 points

I've been lucky enough to be taken pig hunting in 2 countries, I have chased pigs, stuck pigs and carried pigs but I don't believe I have anywhere near enough experience to have an opinion on pig dogs. I was basically a tourist. How anyone can have such an entrenched opinion based purely on what they've read on the Internet and never actually done amazes me.4 points

Bob on ?saw something similar happen in oz , dog bashed against a tree while latched on, smashed ribs on one side, witch pierced lungs , had to be pts there and then. Would often find by the time u caught up to them some of the dogs would be exhausted to the point of collapse from the battle they’d had. Would also notice that quite often if caught out in the open they would run till they hit a thick patch of timber before turning to fight. Don’t think it was coincidence either, they are not daft animals ? dont know wether the term deep game dog is appropriate an wouldn’t pretend to know4 points

I’ve hunted pigs. Not as many as some on here and certainly not as much as toolebox. But have hunted them in three countries, all with catch dogs. Also have some very good mates who cross back and fore between nz and here a lot, hunting, and bringing dogs back and fore. Ive never paid for a boar hunt and I’ve never carried a gun on one. I’ve stuck them, and I’ve carried them up god awful hills. There is a massive difference between the Danes you see here and the ones that hve made the grade in the antipodes for pig hunting. They get jackers to. Obviously. But there are some4 points

Well what can I say after 12/13 years I had to put my wee mate down heart broken is an understatement . Old age just caught up to him as it does with them all. He was a one in a life time dog and I know il never get another like him an compare every dog il ever own to him . My son started hunting with him , killed his first fox with him , started hunting with him round cover He was a wee nipper when we got him . He set and watched every YouTube video of him last night in pieces . Memories we both have will last a life time thank you Flick rest easy wee son you did me proud ?❤3 points

Might I ask how pigs you have killed or ran dogs with ? I'm just going to comment on one major mistake I see wrong with your post ,that is dog usually gets killed before they know they are headed for the happy hunting ground ,now its not fact that a dog gets killed with the first or second blow or even the 9th ,the time line they get killed at can be anytime ,from the start of the attack to the end ,bad luck can play a part in all this . You have given a example of the great Dane ,you would need to search for a very long time to find a Great Dane or even a Dane x because kiwi hunters don't r3 points

Not only is it Yorkshire day but it’s bag a buck season ive had my eye on this freezer filler a few times but sticking to the rules I’ve let him slide, just said to my lass I’m off up the moors to catch up with him! then she started laughing… I crashed my truck a couple of weeks back and I’ve got the worlds crappest curtesy car while it’s getting fixed! she said htf are you going to get it back? I could rope it on the top?3 points

I was out one time with full EU polcats never again first of all they were to big for me and I work hobs ferrets second think the c**ts were fuking about the holes took u all day to catch them theres a reason why we Bred from them and not to many people use them But all the best with it mate3 points

I wouldn’t worry too much mate, great answer, but you’re arguing with folk on THL. There is a long pedigree on here of people being experts on hunting a quarry they have never hunted, with dogs they have never seen, in a country they’ve never been to. They are right though, for deffo.3 points

I'm not a fan of insurance companies, especially car insurance companies - legalised robbing b*****ds that penalise you if you use the service that you've paid for. Feck me, they'll even try to penalise you if you've been in a bump that wasn't your fault and didn't end up costing them. And don't get me started on the excess charges The missus got her knickers in a twist 10yrs ago when I f****d off our home contents insurance - ever since, we've been putting that money in a separate account. So far we've used it for a tumble dryer, a cooker and a laptop screen. ...3 points

I once put up a post "Are Pures Really Pure" ? Relating to Deerhounds and Greyhounds. Deerhounds of course had an influx of greyhound blood, sanctioned by the kennel club, ostensibly to prevent them becoming to "cloddy" and becoming undishinguisable from Irish Wolfhounds. But long before, when the invention of the sporting gun meant their job of coursing and catching deer became obsolete, there was in addition of "nose" from various other breeds, to enable them to track wounded quarry. The Greyhound, as we know had bull blood added in the 1800's by Lord Orford to his coursing dogs, s3 points
