I've always had whippets and whippet based lurchers, for the rabbiting job... These were the first dogs I encountered when I left my native Wales....I was captivated ..? Bred various permutations and hybrids to suit the dense woodlands and Ditch busting adventures, and I've enjoyed being around these dynamic canines. The cur dogs that I have today, are a judicious mix, of Sooty Sam, Working style Whippet and my friend Barry Sharp's Border Collie Sheepdog blood.... ? My target species today, is strictly rabbits, so a diminutive runner is just about ideal... ? Its good8 points

Can be a nightmare not my cup of tea maybe easier for driven like the cotswolds but everything was walked up east side in it’s purist form , great days as the dogs we’re getting better until the brick wall ban nowdays how can anyone tell wats best if you can’t compete lots of yrs breeding fit for function of correct size whippets is gone forever , folk can say wat they want about todays whippets, but on the field If correct size could you find the answer see plenty of hyped dogs get the treatment The winner of the last cup in the pic had dominated the scene along with her siblings then the8 points

Poodle on a sofa. The first poodle laid on a sofa in 1724 if you look at the length of leg and deepness of chest it made the poodle the ideal dog for this job. The non shedding coat of the poodle also made many a cleaner happy not to have to constantly clean said sofa.in the future I plan to re create this line of sofa poodles I just haven't sourced the sofa or poodle yet but scs has guaranteed me the best line of sofa in the future. Thanks the kid from a council estate near you8 points

Ger was an absolute gentlemen. We were digging buddies up until he got sick and sadly he had to hand over the working dog as he wouldn't be able to manage him. That broke his heart. We used to have some craic out with the dogs and also when involved with IWTF business. Ger had a great sense of humour and also insight and wisdom of the dog game and every day life. He would study things down to the fine detail and always had a different angle on things. Always making you rethink what you thought you knew. A proud Corkman and of the White Dogs we worked, he invested huge effort into protecting Te8 points

Both took fox regular, both had beddy whippet in there maker up 21 and 22tts. Father and son. The black dog was a very very good fox dog however he had a drop of bull in his make up. But he killed alot of foxes single and it didn't take him long either Black and tan dog did struggle with a few due to his size etc but he would stick with them no matter until he had dispatched it. Moved onto bigger dogs for a reason as its bloody hard work for these little dogs if your out few times a week taking fox. In saying that if there are used for fox work they will develop there own s7 points

I have to echo all the good things that are being said about Ger here. From our first conversation in 2012 ,he was the same gent right the way through. As some of the lads said above "when others stood back, Ger stood up". So true. We spent many hours discussing the future of terrier work in Ireland. His legacy is not a line of working terriers that he put his own particular stamp on,or old photographs of men in deep digs and famous terriers. He gave his time willingly so others could continue to enjoy our sport for years to come. Thats a legacy we can all share. Thank you6 points

Had a conversation with a very respected old trainer last week and it typified the state of heavyweight boxing for me when i asked him who he thought will eventually come out on top in the division and he said " i really couldnt care less heavyweight boxing is finished "........i came away feeling quite sad that after all these years we've craved British success and as soon as we've got it we've f****d it all up !5 points

Fabulously evocative images Green Lurchers? I used to follow on behind the Slipper at some of the events, mostly the larger hounds. Its amazing just how strong and skillful you need to be, to get the dogs balanced in slips, and away, evenly? I tried it a few times myself and it is definitely an acquired knack!5 points

I've got a 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy who recently caught his first in a reed bed - he finished it off but it wasn't particularly quick or 'pretty'. Not something i'd want to see him do on a regular basis if I'm honest but he's well up for it and I know instantly when he picks up a scent as his whole body language and demeanor changes into 'seek and destroy mode.' Definitely goes up a gear from when he's on a rabbit or squirrel.4 points

Single handed is a contest between a dog and a hare Double handed is dog versus dog Stick with me kid, I'll make you a star, I'm not sure what out of but I used to watch art attack, and how to, and I think I've got a few old cornflake boxes handy You know?4 points

Jeemes,...the guy you are thinking of is Roger Upton. Real interesting, well travelled fellah to talk to.. Sadly, I've just learned he succumbed to Parkinson's . He lived one hell of a Sporting Life....? R.I.P.?4 points

You are right there Katchum? I am not a fan of the hybrid myself,...unless the end result has the big old jaw of an old style Beddy, and the Whippet half is one of those chunky, big barrel chested feckers...? I've enjoyed watching these 30/35 pounders break a bush in half when they scent a vulpine.... I was once out with some digging lads and they had a strong rough coated Beddy lurcher. It wasn't much of a size, but had a kind of strange seriousness about its demeanour...? When a fox bolted from an earth, the dog rolled it in about twenty yards... It was straight onto the4 points

With such a diminutive tyke , it is all down to their intent,...and to be honest, a lot of jukels frequently bite off more than they can chew..? I've seen several dogs spit out a vulpine in double quick time, when he retaliates... The small dogs are incredibly useful in dense bracken and rough woodland areas... They are often able to keep in contact with the fox , especially if they bolt fast from a shallow earth. Obviously, not the ideal dog for the job, but if that is all you have available and you are trying to clear an area of foxes, with traps , wires, etc, they do hel4 points

That's a lot of averages, on average, but would a below average Saluki be better than an above average saluki lurcher on average, or would it average itself out, on average ? ?? Cheers.3 points

Had a call yesterday from my pal saying i'm going fishing with or without you, without me like fcuk you are .We were planning on doing the same as with GL the other day,bit of trolling then off onto the shallows for a bit of casting. We set off in a far bigger breeze than was forecast and that sort of put paid to how we were going to do things as there was a good chop in some places with the wind being against the tide and i did get a cold wet lap full ,but who dares wins and you got to go where the fish are so we cracked on and hit into some better fish right on the edge of a rough bit.Lost a2 points

I reckon he could teach most pure whippets a thing or two. First x whippet Russell. Probably not as fast as a straight whippet but hardy, clever and brave. I wish I could have him back at that age again2 points
