You can potentially get side effects from any sort of medication. The rewards of the vaccine far outweigh the risks, it's a no brainer for someone his age IMO. I think it's not a matter of if you catch the virus, but a matter of when. Why take that chance, you should try your best to get the odds stacked in your favour just incase.

Alas no, we don't know how long natural immunity will last as its a new virus, we do know that having two vaccines, ie a double whammy for our immune systems is very effective with building longer time immunity to many infections and more effective with stopping infection with Covid in the short term but only time will tell how long the immunity will last.
