I knew a simple soldier boyWho grinned at life in empty joy,Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,And whistled early with the lark.In winter trenches, cowed and glum,With crumps and lice and lack of rum,He put a bullet through his brain. No one spoke of him again. You smug-faced crowds with kindling eyeWho cheer when soldier lads march by,Sneak home and pray you'll never knowThe hell where youth and laughter go. Remember these ? So, so wild you can`t get near them. Well today there was no wind, some sunshine and a certain HW 100 KT .177 used first time in a while . Full gillie suit ( English oak), natural hide and lots of patience. The field craft was good, I got within 38 yds and before they new it, it was too late.7 points

This was a strange buck. I have some permission on a small farm owned by two of the best people I've ever met. So, when I stop by to visit the conversation runs pretty long. This means I get set up late in my stand. I use a climber so this has to be packed out and set up. I was sitting on the corner of standing corn, and the wood lot. There were just enough acorns falling to maybe entice a few deer to leave the corn. About 20 minutes into my sit I saw this guy and I thought I would pass. But he lingered in the area and attacked every deer that tried to cross from the corn to the acorns. We are5 points

Heard people have been getting more creative with pheasants and as I had a few brace in the chiller wanted to have a go at sausages. I had half a bag of complete mix left over from some venison ones I’d done a week or so back (chilli and coriander) so thought what the heck... 2 kg pheasant breasts 1 kg 70/30 VL pork belly Bunch of fresh coriander. Handful of soft apricots 650 grams of complete sausage mix 750mil cold water Natural hog casings. I chopped the apricots into quarters and put them through the mincer along with the meat. I added the ch3 points

Andrea Pirlo retired this week, I just thought the retirement of such a great player was worthy of a mention. Probably one of the greatest examples of how football is played with your brain as much as anything and one of the great exponents of the creative midfielders art. Thanks for the memories......and for making Joe Heart look a cock with your penalty skills !2 points

A good way to remember those who gave their lives for us it to visit the war memorials in the little towns and villages and try to get your head around just how many of the village men never returned. Very sobering.2 points

Best part of an hour between shots Jon/ Matt , sadly. For future sessions I should buy some lofting poles and decoys again to draw them in to land more.2 points

Shot because it was deemed to be a severe risk to humans, what a load of bollocks, public have more to worry about from chavs and their bull breeds than they ever would from a Lynx2 points

In the States myself recently with outdoor tv on in the evenings .We miss out on the bow hunting here tbh .Some say it's wrong but from what I've seen no different to rifle shooting .Thanks for posting mate and please keep us supplied regular as it's good to see other hunting methods .Do you shoot many turkeys there .Looked into a hunt myself in Florida ,Oceola County but they wanted $2500 for a 2 day hunt for one bird lol. We arnt used to paying for shooting here unless it's on an estate.2 points

Here's a pic of my last dog, been gone 21 years now, succumbed to Cushings Disease aged 8. He was a bit of a fcuker with bigger dogs so had to be careful where I let him have a run.2 points

What would it take to send a team down there now as opposed to end of the month . Surely a zoo that has general bad housing of animals and recently lost a lynx would be a priority over any other business they have in the next few weeks2 points

I bet it felt big enough when you were bragging it out along with the treestand and your other gear! The shot placement is unfortunate but you didn’t screw up - the deer is still dead and in the back of your truck. Nice work.2 points

That's a shame. I imagine being in a zoo would take away many fears it would have of humans Can only see borth closing down. Surely with all the attention on them and the low quality of cages etc there they should seriously have a look at the lions they house2 points

Anything powerful enough to reach out to 250yds, is going to destroy your rabbits. At the revised distances of 100-150yds, .22LR HV is easily usable. At a zero of 125 yds using CCI Stingers Bullet data gives 2 inches over at 100yds and 5 inches below at 150yds. Both of those are manageable drops especially if your ranging accurately and even more so if you can use the scope turrets properly. If you don't already use the compensation turrets, now is probably a good time to learn. Elliot on here is somewhat of a master.2 points

Recently rediscovered this absolute gem by Ian McCulloch, frontman of the fabulous Echo and the Bunnymen...... "I want it now, I want it now - not promises of what tomorrow brings. I need to live in dreams today. I'm tired of the song that sorrow sings."2 points
