  1. I've been a binman for the last 23 years . It used to be a great job , with decent money , decent hours , and a great bunch of lads to work with . I'm unbelievably bored with it now and i feckin hate the place , but I'm just too old and knackered to look at retraining. Financially I'm sound , I was mortgage free before I was 40 , but I always worry , just incase things go tits up. I've been poor , and I really don't like it.

  2. Same as me,punched my guts out since leaving school and planned to be semi retired at 50, mortgage free and be able to pick and choose 2/3 days a week for beer money...the rest of my days will hopefully be filled with fishing, mooching and travelling around exploring parts of the UK/Europe in a motorhome with my better half...Im almost there at 45 Im no stranger to graft, can turn my hand to most things...but Im not working away till my 60/70s like some mug...to be f****d physically or only to waste away a few yrs later and be the richest man in the graveyard ..you

  3. Retired at 51 twenty years ago. Came home from abroad and got a couple of allotments and some hens, ducks and quail. Spend a lot of my time out with the dogs or at the allotments. Why on earth work till your an old man and to old to enjoy what’s left of your life ? Cheers.

  4. 63 next week and still grafting in a warehouse in a fast paced job some days i am in agony with sciatica. The years of hard graft in the pit then hod carrying and five years scaffolding and years on the demolition plus out in all weathers over the years working my lurchers and poaching has took its toll . I cant wait to get my state pension and call it a day as long as work goes . I will be more than happy just mooching about with the catty every day rather than doing the mundane job i do everyday with boring people .

  6. Worked till was 66 self employed last few years as no f****r wants you then. Gardening, Maintenance, Machine driving and work on farms Laying hedges etc and even then customers didn't want me to give up working for them. Retired now and loving it Ferreting, Fishing, Foraging, Metal detecting, Gardening and any thing else I fancy. The only trouble is your body is a bit f****d after years of manual work. Also right now I'm sucked off to the stump with rain and bloody wind Lol. They reckon if you have no interests when you retire life expectancy is just 3 years. Cheers Arry

  7. Watched my ole fella bust a gut till he couldn't anymore, spent his last years with a knackered body and eventually a knackered mind, fcuk working till mid seventies. I'll graft away till my youngest is on her feet then I'm packing it in, get myself a little mongrel lurcher as a companion for mooching and fishing and I'll be as happy as a pig in shite. Don't care about money, I'll just get better at being poor.

  12. Spent Christmas in Gran Canaria. Reflections. The people here enjoy the best climate in the world. Always between 18 and 26c degrees. They still have huge extended family gatherings in restaurants, babies and ga_ ga geriatrics included. The waiters here kiss children, especially the handicapped. Couple of kids, one with severe autism, and one with Downs, are treated like royalty in my hotel. It's not a show. Its part of their culture. Brilliant imo. The young teenagers gather in large groups and enjoy food and wine. At their age, my generation used to get legless, aggress

  17. This is not my account but a good mate of mine. It started by me saying to my mate I'm thinking of fishing a mark between Brixham and Dartmouth near Mansands called Crabrock point. His answer was I will never fish there again. He told me him and a mate were there one night fishing when he suddenly realised there was a man stood beside him. The man was dressed in Oil Skins and staring out to sea, my said he spoke to the man by saying something like christ mate you made me jump. The man didn't speak or look at him. My mate turned to his fishing pal to get his attention turned back and

  45. Years ago I had a sixteen foot clinker dingy that a mate and I used to fish from in the river Dart near Dartmouth. Anyway we decided to do a night session just out side the mouth, well the fog came in so we stayed close to the shore not far out. This is in the days of Tilly lamps and crap torches no head lights back then not a problem we were used to it. So we set up and started fishing for Conger and Huss settled down cup of tea and a fag both smoke then. Right, late into the night we started to hear this bump bump bump getting closer and closer in the light of the Tilly we could only se
