Sat by the Wood burner have a whisky and a small ploughman's. Testing this years pickle and pickled onions and scrounging almost the last tomato's that I rescued before the frosts that have been ripening on the window sill. Cheers Arry8 points

Yeah I think whippets and their crosses are great dogs to start your hunting career with as a kid, also for when you get into your older years and for me most of the time in between, lol. They are one of the easiest breeds to live with, generally healthy, cheap to keep and are exciting to work. I had a time hunting bigger game with bulldogs but have always come back to the little runners and their evil accomplices, the terriers.8 points

You are right there Moll.. I've had a few pure whippets and crossbreds ,..they have all been grand wee hunters and always great fun. Facts are ,..I've been mouching on various places, nothing serious, just having a quiet look around, seeing what is about and getting the lie of the land , perhaps for a future visit.....and,..with some of these diminutive tykes, they have caught stuff, in the bushes, reed beds, woodland brash and even found game sitting snug in the hedgerows... I remember taking a small Blue bitch into a nice piece of keepered woodland, and within a very short t7 points

I never click on them videos can’t stomach it. Agree with what you say . It’s odd how they seem to think it’s ok to be so cruel. They must have screw lose. I can’t even be cruel to a fish I try to dispatch cleanly as I can6 points

The problem with any technical waterproof gear is all it takes is a single thorn and your wondering why your shoulder is getting damp. They’re only good for 3-5 years before they’re f****d if you’re actually using them. Im a f****r for having to have gear that fits just right so I understand what it’s like. I quite like musto for a smart nice fit hard shell. Their BR2 stuff seems reasonably priced for a few years of use and still look smart. Not a chance I’d hand over a grand for a jacket.5 points

Looks a cracking coat.... But imagine snagging it on barbed wire 1st time out, I reckon I'd actually cry... Lol5 points

It's horses for courses. I've worked lurchers, bull x's and whippets. I've been out many times with other lurcher types. I currently work smaller dogs/whippets here as dogs that take longer to get into their stride or think too much are never going to catch much. I need a dog quick off the mark that can cover the ground before the prey notices. I've noticed over the years a lot of people who slate whippets have never actually owned or worked them...or perhaps briefly had one. I've never had a whippet suffer or fail to work because of poor weather, their prey drive is huge, not m5 points

That’s ok for lamping in the 1980’s with a leaking car-battery in a haversack but times change.Dido liked that coat,in his words it was spot on,it was a step-up the ladder from Chazza shop donations and hand me downs, now it’s a fading distant dream, reduced from knights Templar prospect to last of the summer wine Compo in one THL thread.4 points

I'm as tight as cramp. I've been stalking on the estate my mate works on and sleeping on his couch. One of my mates put on a group chat "I'll be surprised if he's wearing his own clothes"...... I looked down and everything I was wearing I'd been given as hand me downs other than my underpants and socks4 points

Carpe diem, you want that coat, you NEED that coat, don’t talk yourself out of it,I knew when I saw your opening post “shall I get it?” YES get the coat,be decisive, you actually like that coat, you know you would look good in it,you want to wear it on shoots and stuff and look the f*cking bollox, people will probably think your the laird, the squire, the landowner in that jacket, that jacket is YOU,don’t fanny around, time passes quick, for every day you procrastinate over the purchase is a day less you will get to wear it.4 points

Remember a few on here where big turtle lovers, saw this guy at the bass pro in their little fish exhibit deal. Good sized gator snapper, probably at least 150lbs. Also first I've I e been to where they have live ducks ....not sure how they kept them in thwre though because there no real fence or anything... Well guess when. There's a bunch of kids running around they figure out pretty quick where to go and not to3 points

I reckon you’d pick up a decent Barbour from eBay, but I’d always say avoid wax which I’m sure everyone knows. I had the Le Chamou wellies but your socks always slip down in them, neoprene don’t give you that problem imho mate. My neoprene didn’t do too bad, but my Mindl boots are the best thing I ever bought…..16 years old and still going strong. There’s some good kit to be had for reasonable money now and because our climate is so temperate and different on different days it’s really a question of having a few bits you can turn to imho January in Angus is not the same3 points

Just mooched around local today. Marked a few different rats. Some gave us the slip but we got 3 from 2 marks. Flushed birds and hares from cover and hunted rabbits.Got rats in a wood that always holds rats in nice burrows. One of the rats bolted from two burrows and each time we hunted him and marked him in next burrow til we got him in third hole.3 points

Out of likes today reading some of the replies. Had me in stitches First I'm sorry if I gave the impression I had money to waste.....I don't....but I honestly never spend anything, hence the thought of treating myself. Second, in Lancashire I always took clemming to mean hungry. As in "I'm reet clemming" or " I'm fairly clempt". I reckon I'm going to wait. Get Christmas and February holiday (first holiday abroad in years). Then have another look at prices.... Lastly I have got my application in for masonic knights templar but been told it's going to take up to two years3 points

An old pal of mine owned what was probably the last old fashioned game butchers in Newcastle. I told him how I butchered roe; he said he would do them for free for me. I asked what was in it for him. He said I waste so much, he could still give me more meat from a carcass and have enough left for venison sausages and burgers to make a few quid. Always best to leave it to the professionals! Cheers.3 points

Been quoted 25quid each pig for slaughter and cut down middle, so 50quid and could collect 4 half pigs. The place I want to use hasn't given me a quote yet on butchery, it depends on what you want, if you want sausages etc (which I do) then price goes up. Not really sure what to base it on but I expect a skilled butcher would have job done in an hour. Sausages take more time grinding mixing etc and cost of casing which is where the cost is. I had in my head a couple hundred quid all in for both pigs and plenty of sausages....Will let you know when I find out!3 points

I've got savings but like a lot of my generation I can't bring myself to spend it. You never know when hard times are going to hit. I wouldn't mind a bigger telly and a better bird room but I just can't justify the cost. 'Make do and mend' was my mother's mantra and I guess that goes for me too.3 points

As you guys know I go metal detecting and often get plagued by old cardboard shotgun cartridge caps. Well the other day dug this one up and just slung in in my finds bag. After getting home tipped the crap out to have a look and realised this cap had a pin out the side and no centre percussion cap. I'd not seen one before so looked it up seems to come from about 1850 or there abouts. Can just make out LONDON and maybe Eley, Don't know if its of interest to any body collectors etc. if anybody wants it they are welcome if not its in the scrap bucket. Found this picture3 points

1200 notes for a coat ....f**k right off... Honestly this 30 quid work coat from the company called Site is the most waterproof coat I've ever had...worked in the pissing rain under a leaking gutter one day for several hours ....it was like standing in a shower...not a warm coat but windproof and lightweight...fleece underneath if it's cold3 points

Ive got the above jacket and matching trousers, had them a few seasons now,no complaints..I bought a load of Harkila gear when it first came about, and didnt rate it tbh,not for the money,I had 3 different pairs of their top end boots and every pair split and leaked like f**k,all lasted less than a month... clothing wise,Ive had some bits from Seeland and Deerhunter that have lasted and worn well...but now I would walk past Harkila...even on the discount rack3 points

Hello All, Had a short chat with Snoop earlier and unfortunately Razor left us last week. This special dog was born on 4th Sept 2008. Provided one man with 6 long hard seasons performing at the highest level. He has sired some great dogs and his name lives on through them. I know there are a lot of you on here running dogs with his blood so thought it was right thing to do and share the sad news. Rest in peace this most special of dogs. RIP Razor2 points

We could sell videos of when he does the great coat (and price) reveal to Mrs Dido when she knocks the shite out of him and that could potentially cover the cost of said coat and maybe even some new underpants ?2 points

Moved the last 3 from the brooder to the hen house. With the big drop in temps over last few weeks I kept them in longer than I normally would. The hens seem to have accepted them without too much trouble. Couple of the turkeys are really big now. They need to be processed in the next couple of weeks. Considered doing the pigs pre-xmas but everyone is too busy so they will be going Jan as first planned. It's all very wet and muddy here now temps have come back up!!!!2 points

I still have old optimum eighty cotton paper tenners, whenever I take them into a UK bank the story is always the same “My father has past away, found them when cleaning his house out” I always try my best to look a little crestfallen,he must have died about 30 times, maybe more.2 points

I bought my jackets in Toronto and Ottawa in the Goose shops, they let you try them on in the freezer room and drop the temps down,a regatta wouldn’t cut it when the temps plummet BUT a Harkila limited edition would.2 points
