? I would always prefer a physically gifted dog that has twigged on, to use his natural gears to run slow when required, over a naturally slow dog that cannot ever hope to produce pace, or find a speed that is plainly not at his disposal...Back in the day, my best catch dogs, all had the power to control their chosen quarry,.. it was a great feeling to go out into the darkness, fully armed... Fielding such canine athletes I honestly felt that I owned the night... Nowadays, with my wee curs, I am woefully underpowered,...we have to rely on being in the right place, at the right time,...we7 points

Ye should all get a wheaten cross. It looks like a deerhound but can do everything that a bull cross can. No need to argue then ?????5 points

I have posted these before but maybe of interest on this thread. The photo with the people is my favourite family picture simply because there is an old type Bedlington in it. My Great uncle and aunty. He was a pitman and the pic would of been taken 1950's (I think) in the Team Valley area of Gateshead NE England. Poor quality I know as I only have it in photocopied form. Other photographs exist of this man's Bedlingtons but are in the possession of my cousin and I been trying to get them off him for 20 odd years. I will not relent and they will be mine eventually. Bang on, don't matter how much new shiny kit some have if you ain't got the time to get out your never going to catch much and it's a waste of a dog. Seen plenty of lads on the dole who put plenty of time and game in front of there dogs. Dogs fed, kenneled as good as any. Atb5 points

Went to one of the new wood permissions this morning and seen a decent amount of rabbits run from the field i to the woods, had no chance of sneaking up on anything in there with twigs all over but managed to get these on the edge of the field4 points

Asked to pop up the road to sort out some bunnies that were trying to destroy the veggie patch and lawn. This meant that any rabbit needed to be taken not that I like taking the youngsters especially as we have been hit hard by mixy the last couple of years. However, it was pleasing to see a lot of healthy rabbits about so hopefully the numbers will bounce back for the ferreting season. Managed five rabbits before setting off to sit under some ash trees to await the pigeons. Plenty came in but were now impossible to pick out in the foliage although one bandit made the mistake of coming too clo4 points

Yeah, that phrase gets on my tits a bit - I imagine there's a lot of regular people there that are just pissed off with the status quo. ......... Yet, because the gathering doesn't conform to some new age fannys utopian vision of a mid-brown society, they slap a negative label on it. I hope the day goes well.4 points

The first Buckfast to Totnes raft race, 1981 i think, they still run it these days. Nobody had a clue what build, when we did a test run it just turned over had to put the outriggers which created drag. We did finished, but took us about 8 hours we were freezing and getting cramp, every body has wet suits these days. Me in the centre holding the oil drum with the 8 on it. Had hair on the top of my head then. Cheers Arry4 points

My Gran and Granddads old house, its gone now. Here's Grad parents, mother and father aunt and uncle and us kids. I loved to go and stay in that old house it had gas lights which used to fascinate me. Only one cold water tap a potty under every bed a jug of cold water and a bowl on every dresser, and the toilet was up the garden. There was a spiral stair case which us kids loved, lowering a basket on a string with an apple or something in. But in the Attic which you could access through a little door was stored aunt and uncles stuff from South Africa masks, spears, shields and horns, in the ha4 points

Found this behaviour really interesting. Brings into question accepted predator control strategy of coyotes and has implications on conservation strategy for red wolves.3 points

I had a cracking day out with my daughter today. ...... We took her camera up to one of my permissions and, bearing in mind that she hasn't been interested in photography for long, she got some good pictures Anyway, we thought we'd have some barbecue chicken for dinner. ......... Nothing fancy - breasts flattened out, cheese and barbecue sauce in the middle, wrapped in bacon. It's been warm sun and blue skies all day, now, when the food's cooking, it feckin rains. Ah well, carry on regardless3 points

This is the core problem with bull crosses. People get them and if they don't come up to a mythical standard they get rid of them. Back in the day it was cartridge in the back of the head now its a trip to the dogs trust. This strategy guarantees success because it places all the focus of the dog and none of the owner. What is worse is bull crosses are expected to be successful from an early age so the ownership cycle can be an 18 month one. Those dogs that do make the grade are pushed hard often before their grow plates have fused, and then start to suffer skeletal breakdown in their second o3 points
