Sadly Mick Douglas has passed away a few years ago ,its interesting to hear from others who knew him or met him . I had 2 lurchers from Mick and as you see later will put up some photos . I was young at the time ,but his advice on training and working was a great help,in my hunting trips. He was his own man ,living up on the marshes and had a lot of skills too. I enjoyed being in his present,never did i feel he talked bullshit and what was passed to me made a lot of sense, you be sadly missed my friend and thank you for sharing your knowledge to me ......

I think hatred of the postman is a given for any dog. When a dog barks and the postman drops the letter and leaves then the dog thinks it has successfully chased him away so grows a big pair of balls as a result and the hatred gets bigger ever time.

While any type of dog can be aggressive the fact is bull types can do a lot of damage in a very short space of time. If a survey was done on fatalities versus breed types owned per head of population then I would guess bull types would be the number 1 killer. That's not saying they are the most aggressive breed. I would regard ankle biting jack Russell's and collies to be far more aggressive but they don't have that kill force bite and hold technique and would just leave a few scars. Ditto to Mitch, Looks a good deal Jon I`ve been using my spring rifles so much that the TX is in the gunsmiths today for a loose shroud and the HW 97K is in for a reduction in power, ( she was found out by the Chinese chrono,- cheapy was .2 of a ft/lb out to the gunsmith`s Skan chrono ). I much prefer the challenge of sub 12 sprng rifle hunting and range work to using the 100`s.

Well I’m an Englishman and nearly everyone I know in England would let them go. I hate stereotyping because it happens on both sides of the water. Believe it or not it isn’t an Irish thing, it’s a thing you do if your brought up with it. I remember my father telling me of stories when he visited Ireland back in the day and he couldn’t believe his eyes when the irish lads brought the shotgun out at the end of a dig. There’s both types of lads on both sides of the water. It’s more to do with the company you keep. I for one wouldn’t kill a fox, as I find more enjoyment watching them run away.

Many a young dog dont make the grade here because there started on quarry thats used ta seen dogs some do alot dont some lads just dont have the patience with young dogs i think more would make it given more time not all them will some just dont have it no matter what breeding is in them

I wonder, he had been a great player instead of only mediocre would people still feel the same? I had a Labrador that was fine with anybody and was as loving a dog as I've ever owned and the kids could poke her eyes out and she would just wag her tail but she didn't like tall, broad intimidating men standing over her. She would curl the lip and strip her teeth at them. Then again the few she done it too were big thick wankers that pushed their weight around so maybe she was picking up on character.

An update . I had a chat to the owner and discussed the pricing. We went through the pros and cons . I gave him the alternative prices but he said they for the extra expense we are probably better off sticking with a reliable/ quality supplier with good back up who usually sticks quite a few extras in . I’m not the one paying the bill so I’m happy enough. I do worry sometimes that one day they are just going to say “this is too expensive “ and jack the shoot in , I always try to keep expenditures down as much as I can , because the cost of shooting is rocketing.

Can’t disagree with that but that’s more to do with the abundance than the need to educate anything in the first place .These dogs that do work the educated stuff ,how often do they see the inside of an earth .Once or twice a month or do you work them sore . I’ve learnt that ‘educated game’ can earn that title because the lads that dig them have dogs that will take hold and work hard. Last season I’ve seen some dogs come off very worse for wear and we’ve all agreed that the game must be very educated. We’ve then tipped a steady dog in which knows the score just baying away nothing stupid, and we’ve dug the game without a scratch on the dog.
