The ponds you see in big farm house gardens and larger houses are called stew ponds and they were living larders from a time when we were god fearing christians that ate fish on a friday, carp and perch were favorites on old english tables and the larger house and farms had them as the owners were rich enough to have them dug in the first place. True, zander are prized, but the 'No Kill' attitude is a lot more common. Eaten catfish a couple of times, 1st time was at a hunt repas, hot in a creamy tomatoe sauce & was handsome. 2nd time was cold in mayo & was okish. Got one I need to remove from the lake, so it may be harvested, but ill probably re-locate it. Eaten loads of crayfish out of my lake, just grab the middle tail fin and twist 90% ish left then right, it dislocates, then slowly pull & all the unnecessary comes out - no need to purge. Gonna knock up a lobster type trap for them next year.

A mate sent me this photo today, a group of 6 were out and four of them hit the pothole and came off their bikes with one breaking his collar bone. Just shows even potholes have their uses.

Went out yesterday with catty shot my first woody really nice shot. But on going to collect it in some cover behind my allotment. A bloody black feral cat picked it up and ran off with it behind this thick cover. At first a could hear the woody flapping about. Then all of a sudden a could hear the flapping but moving at speed. Lol. A looked up the gap behind the cover and seen the black cat with the woody. Cheeky b*****d pinched my kill. A was looking forward to cooking that for my tea with some garlic and abit of wine. Maybe have an hour after work hopefully get a few kills.

Tonight for her, chicken breast stuffed with garlic butter and chestnut mushrooms, rapped in prosciutto and covered in panko breadcrumbs, wedges with a little bit of onion powder and garlic salt, green beans, carrots and baby corn cooked in a butter emulsion ( not what I would of put with it, but it’s what she wanted) for me, Murgh Kari ( chicken curry ) nice but the spice hits you after you have eaten it, first time making it and I might of got a bit carried away with the cayenne

Enjoyable day yesterday,visited a couple of lakes in Quebec as we are fishing one next week,saw a few whitetail deer,and did the worlds only inter-provincial zipline (Quebec to Ontario)across the Ottawa river,done it before but it closes this weekend for winter so had one last blast.

Trapped a big lobster sized one just him and a load of claws inside trap reckon he went in for a snack lol then scared others from going in. Cat fish I saw cooked on YouTube was marinated in a hot sauce rolled in bread crumbs then deep fried, I would definitely ate that looked real good.

Perch cleaned and scraped.....then slashed on the flanks and buttered...and grilled....is in my view far tastier than trout when i was a nipper and got a decent pike...it was cleaned and filleted and soaked in vinegar and salt and water overnight prior to cooking...(used to get rid of that muddy taste)
