  4. You are right there Trigger... With some dogs it is a few second's glance,..a quick, tip ya the wink kinda thing,..and you need to really know your dog to catch it... Whereas with others, it is far more obvious... I once had a canny cur that marked so strongly that she had to be physically dragged off a Warren before she would leave it... As we did this she always seemed to give us a bewildered and frustrated look of, 'Ya C**ts, there is a rabbit here, for feck's sake get the ferret in"

  6. That’s my type of ground for a good days walk out. Dog looks strong and Looks a perfect cross for those hills. Going to start doing a lot more of it and when I get more time I will head out with overnight kit and make a couple of days of it. You cant beat a solid mark. Either to ground or in cover.

  12. Our annual trip up the west coast was a productive affair this year. We were informed that woodcock were in short supply this year and we should show restraint.........well they weren't where we were and we didn't ..............The usual spots held good numbers of birds and with the dogs working hard we managed to squirt a few down and put a bag together. By the end of the first day the dogs were knackered. its really hard going for them working in the bracken and briars. The second morning we were up at 6am to flight duck on the foreshore, there is normally plenty of teal around at this

  17. I hear that. I don't have a mobile and I don't always take a camera out when I'm walking the dogs. Even when I do take the camera I'm usually too preoccupied to sit behind a viewfinder for every step of the journey. I actually like to take it in the traditional way! The last time I tried to take a picture of a troat I caught in the middle of nowhere I dropped the camera in the river trying to balance Kodak moment and not stressing the fish. Last time the dog got sprayed by a skunk the last thing on my mind was seeing whether to use the zoom or the wide lens for the best shot! I managed to

  18. I bought a 7x3 bike shed from shedmonkey (https://shedmonkey.com/product/apex-compact-bike-shed-3-x-7). With the opening framed out for a full height mesh door on one side, top and bottom mesh doors on the other side, a few shelves / platforms and hammocks and pipes inside to give a bit more space it's absolutely ideal. The beauty of this is you can shut one of the shed doors over in cold / windy weather or in storms or really cold conditions you can shut the other door across to virtually closed (I put a concrete block in the doorway and lean another against the door to st

  20. Nice one. I used to fly fish for pike a lot from my kayak and boat but as there are few places here that I can fly fish for the perch and pike, I went back to lure fishing. If you can get hold of some, try popper flies, the disturbance on the water surface drives them nuts. A couple of my tied flies:- I sold all my fly tying gear now and do miss it a bit. Phil

  21. Mate I,m in my 50,s have a £9.99 pay as you go phone, carry a camera to take photos and have absolutely no interest in owning an I phone or simular, I,m pretty normal in my age group and know several older people who can only be contacted by knocking on there door, regardless of the price of the phones you can't force people that have managed most of there life without one to change there ways, we don't have to take a picture everytime we eat or shit to prove its happened, we are capable of making our own minds up without a picture of everything, maybe if you took the phone away from your face

  22. Bubba:.... Anyway, like I was sayin', mouse is the fruit of the land. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, mouse-kabobs, mouse creole, mouse gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple mouse, lemon mouse, coconut mouse, pepper mouse, mouse soup, mouse stew, mouse salad, mouse and potatoes, mouse burger, mouse sandwich. That- that's about it.

  23. If a farmer had thousands of rabbits on a farm and asked for them to be culled ASAP by whatever means possible there would be queue's around the block, this is just the next level, wild hogs cause $1.5 billion dollars worth of damage to crops a year stateside, the state of texas where hog-chopper hunts are most popular is several times larger than the UK,thats a lot of area to cover, choppers are just another tool in the pest-controllers armoury.

  25. The likes of that video is a lot of what's wrong with fieldsports nowadays. By calling that sport it makes people think that's what sport is. Nowadays lads think infra-red, night vision, electric calls, high powered lamps and scopes and high powered automatic weapons is how you go out in the countryside and use your wits to beat your quarry's wits. If you handed the same lads a snare or a ferret and purse nets or a single hunting dog they'd come home empty handed because of their lack of gadgets. Pest control in this modern world is a must but sadly nowadays gadget geeks can get it d

  26. Just a quick post to say thanks to Ian B at Blackwood Outdoors. I've ordered a XQ50F and the service has been fantastic! I was given some great advice and not just on the product I was buying from him but also other items I'm looking to get. A really great service, I definitely would not hesitate to recommend.

  27. Loads of scent about today. Walking next to a brook bitch was getting her nose into the grass and reeds thought there might be something about. Heard her race under this boardwalk next thing got a mouth full of top hat squeaking away. Few shakes it was done. Good walk out seen a few bunnies so population must be coming back slightly.

  29. suppose if thick people are prepared to throw that amount money on a dog , well fool them. many a time on my dog walk i bump into these type of people who treat the dog as human, this is the real prob deep down . they ask me when they see me what kind of dogs mine are, i say smaller one Bryn1x collie x grey , the 2nd the big one Buck 1x gsd x grey , i ask what they paid for there cockerpoos or what ever designer dogs they got, norm they say £ 800 - 1000 quid, i tell them Bryn £ 40 quid , Buck £ 15 quid price of a ferret lol, there totally fooked , they dont know what to say ha ha , i te

  30. One or two things to remember here, a clouded leopard is quite a small cat and would fit in a fox trap, after seeing the mess made in Wales over the escaped Lynx would you want local council involved, ? And everytime the word big cat is mentioned it's not always a lie, I always find its better to do a little bit of investigation first before calling everyone a liar and it is looking a little bit like the owner did,nt want locals to know A he was keeping them near private homes and B one had escaped, so papers may have filled a few gaps but I think there is some element of truth involved, does,

  36. Nope, I walked through a hedge yesterday and beside me were two Hinds who just sat there looking at me. The farmer would have thanked me for taking them out. But why ? What would I have done ? Killed a freezer load of venison just for the hell of it ? That is not why I go hunting .

  37. Rob, as far as I know deer were proven not to be spreading TB here in Ireland last year or the year before. Personally I also think the Badger is a scapegoat too. There's a lot of vets making a pretty penny from testing who otherwise would be quiet. The Irish governments method of culling ,snaring, is wrong too. Nothing wrong with snaring as I use them myself for vermin but now they ask the farmers to check them and at this time of the year when a farmer's rarely on the land I know of Badgers lying in snares for a couple of days. Personally I love Badgers and I hope the vaccination p

  38. Its definitely not the silver bullet. The highest rates of tb are also in the area with highest deer populations. It'll be nice to know theyve stopped culling them as some areas are untouched whilst others are nearly depleted of them.
