  2. Hmm,..personaly,...I like to read about any hunting man's adventures,...my own days in the sun are well and truly over,..so it's always good to hear what other enthusiasts are up to... I've been around the minor field sports scene for decades, and one only has to look at the scarcity of contributors on the various hunting related Internet Forums, and indeed in the sporting press, to realise that our chosen way of life is becoming smaller and smaller... I think that I had the best of it....

  5. Not many people still at it regularly with dogs these days, personally I think it’s a good thing, loads of people with very few brain cells being in to working dogs it’s what’s landed us where we are now with regards to laws

  6. I agree with you in regards to what was the main reason that brought our downfall, that being the Labour Party & their promise of banning hunting with dog's which had long been a controversial topic just to gain votes that would tip thing's in their favour at the election,if you can recall we got word that the Tories would reverse what Labour brought in if they regained power at the next general election, again to secure our votes, many voted for them only because of what was said in regards to the reversal of the hunting with dog's act,the politicians lied to us as they very often do. 7. I beg to differ with that 1 mate the ban was pushed through by the Labour Party to secure votes it's simple as that yeah corse you'll have muppets you get that with anything there plenty of people out there who people will regard as professionals if you want but you'd be suprise what some of these so called professionals have to mess up people's way of life

  9. I started the topic back on the 15th December there wasn't any bitch in season to be mated that I knew about ,the lad only rang me this past Sunday to ask me about a mating, the bitch was mated on Monday & Tuesday of this week so my 'reappearance' as you call it was nothing to do or couldn't of been anything to do with what you mention.I didn't ask for a penny regarding a stud fee nor a penny for fuel to trail up into Scotland with my dog,the lad offered but I refused. I mentioned it because this past month or so has been nothing short of suicidal with all the bad luck I've had,I've had gra

  11. I dont think any type of working dog is as hardy/tough as a dog bred for earth work...theres not an animal alive, wild or domesticated that will travel down into another animals lair and do what a Terrier does.....

  18. I think Charts that there are already a couple of Spring and Summer counts by other organisations and there are slightly involved rules about what to count and what not to include . The RSPB Winter one is a lot simpler . Just stare through the window for an hour and count what you see. I suppose too , birds are easier to count when the leaves are off the trees and ground cover dormant and females aren't tucked up on a nest. It probably has a use in monitoring birds when the population is at its lowest and might help estimate potential breeding pairs. Basically its bird

  25. Pre ban I loved hunting all species of deer, but for me the real excitement came from putting the dog against something bigger & more powerful than itself. Dogs that will do the smaller species are 10 a penny but to knock over the big ones single handed is no easy task & dogs that can do it regularly deserve the upmost respect in my book

  39. Does my head in aswell but I cant lay all the blame on them . Its the generations before them that have stopped it filtering down to them . I was very lucky my dad was game for anything fun wise. When were out walking as a family if me or my brother wanted to climb a tree he would shimmy up it first and kick any dead branches off and point out wedged in branches for us to stick our feet in . When I had mates round and we wanted to shoot his 177 pistol he would get some plastic milk cartons out of the bin , fill them with water and red food colouring and get us to stick posters of footballers

  40. Early start for us today,we were out the door for 4am & done the drive & slog up the mountain for daybreak,it was a cold day on the high tops with a cold brisk wind with the mountain weather forecast stating that taking the wind chill into account temperatures were to be around -12C,we had light rain at times & at other times we had sleet. Unfortunately we didn't put anything to rest today, being honest we probably could have but I seen more than a handful of other's out enjoying the mountains today,I did see 3 big fine along with a handful of the opposite sex with them but they

  41. It’s definitely worth seeking out a vet that’s familiar with ferrets, a lot get a bit flustered when you mention ferrets. When I had mine done I could have had the bit of pipe they removed sent away to make sure it had worked. I never bothered just waited a couple of months before I let him loose. If you have more than one Jill, he might favour 1 over the rest and pester her to death, mine did. I used to separate him off and put 1 jil at a time in with just to make sure he sorted all of them out. Once he’d been with all my Jills, he had free rain living with all of them. Worked for me
